The Big Day for Somaliland: The Inaguration of the New President + Pics

Recommended Posts

The Event is to start in 5 minutes time. Since the morning the main roads near and around the presidential palace have been closed and the security is tight in the city.

The road between Siilaanyo's old house and the Presidential Palace is also full of people although no car movements are allowed except the police vehicles ensuring the safety. The people are ready to witness the great day as the new President will take that road on his way to his new office.

Officials are flooding to the Presidential Palace and delegations from the neighboring countries are in the area to witness the Somaliland's great day of transforming power.

A high delegation from Kenya just arrived Hargeisa Airport to attend the inauguration. At least 20 officials from Kenyan government came to Hargeisa.

Another delegation from Ethiopia also arrived by road.

Thats what I'm talking about. Those pics don't need any description or commentary. They speak volumes about how things have been handled in a responsible way through the extended presidential term, throughout the respective political campaigns, throughout the elections and now with an amicable transfer of power.

Wish I was there for this historic event. Even Faisal Waraabe is smiling and sharing a joke. That would be a great caption by the way (maybe Ngonge can hazard what he was saying and who he was talking about :D )

Thanks JB.

An important precedent was set today. Hopefully a culture of tolerance and progressive politics will take hold. A historical event indeed.

JB, know of any international media that are covering this story?

As aussies say "Youuuuuuuuuuuuu Beauuuttyyy" :D

UDUB is now an opposition party and Kulmiye is now the Government of the land. :=)

Since UDUB didn't have anything to measure its progress with... Kulmiye's measuring stick is UDUB's old performances - will it exceed or will it fall short?

As Hadraawi said in his eloquence words:

Dadku maaha kii hee?

maqli jiray daryeelkee

arki jirey darxumadee

saadaal ku degi jirey

Dadku maaha kii hee

dib waxay u eedaan

marka hore ku dagan jirey

Dadku maahe kii hee

gudin lagu dulbaaxsado

daabka looga dhigan jirey

Dadku maha kii hee?

Midho daray ah duuduub ku liqi jiray

The people will be watching you.

A brilliant picture of progress. Now it is up to Siilaanyo to uphold this new precedent and ensure that when his time is up he would be as graceful and dignified as his predecessor. These are massive shoes that he's stepping into.

Arr cirkay maraysa..
