The two Ships and crew members released.

Recommended Posts

Reports from Harardhere town in central Somalia say the hijackers who held two ships in that area finally released them and all crew. This sudden move happened after town and area elders persuaded them to do the right thing. Both ships are now on their way to a makeshift port near Mogadishu. The main Mogadishu port has been close for many years.

Kenyan registered MV Semlow is carrying WFP humanitarian food for Somalia and has been held since June. It was used by the pirates to hijack the second ship last week.

It is not known if ransom money has been paid for the release of either ship. However, Mogadishu business men to whom the cargo on the second ship belonged accused other business men in Mogadishu of being behind the hijackings and warned of a new civil war in Mogadishu unless their ship is released unconditionally.
