BBC Have Your Say

Recommended Posts

The BBC is pure tabloid trash. Taking cheap shots at Africa is always a safe bet but England along with the near-bankrupt bully, the US, know that China is about to leave them in the dust. Sticks and stones, hateful little buggers.

The BBC's 'Have your Say' team are a sad lot. You should read some of the things written in relation to Asylum Seekers, Islam, Race issues etc.

Having said that, where are the positive articles/opinion in relation to China? Its all 'oh but look at your human rights record' as if Africa give a stuff about that.

China builds roads and infrastructure in Africa and all we here is about their human rights record. Media gone mad!

Are African languages important?

African languages like Swahili, Yoruba and Somali are now available to read on the internet based encyclopaedia, Wikipedia.

The website aims to give every single person an encyclopaedia in their own language no matter how rare and features everything from recipes to biographies.

But Wikipedia is dominated by articles written in English for which there are over one million entries. Compare that to African languages where there are just a handful of entries.

Swahili is the most widely spoken African language available in text on the net, but in general the presence of African languages is dismal compared to languages spoken in the West.

How important is it to be able to read, write and speak an African language? Is English now the most important language in the world? Should people in the developing world still be taught local languages and are they useful for everyday life?

^^ The topics might be controversial but you are invited to HAVE your say, remember.

If you read some of the replies to this one you will find many reasonable and informative retorts and quite a few humours ones.

This is not news reporting. This is a moderated news forum, exactly the same as SOL or any other forum. It may carry the weight of the BBC behind it but it still follows the original (and quite successful) formula for all forums: starting topics that carry a whiff of controversy. :D

You're all spazzing out over nothing as usual...

Africa still remains underdeveloped and in dire need of assistance, the west knows that it had always depended on their hand outs and may be trade and investment... they were the big and bully brother or in other words Africa's Master...

Until Africa steps out of the dust, learns to develop itself and puts better use it's resources, it will alway remain to be someones subject, Obedient slave...

China did it for god's sake, what's wrong with Africa?
