“The most important point in the Dhuusamareeb3 agreement is that 1p1v is not possible now. Thus, indirect model of selection/election which is more advanced than the one conducted in 2016 must be conducted. The rest of the detailed points are negotiable. This is one step forward” tweeted Dr Baadiyow.

The agreement on the electoral model increased the number of participants who will elect MPs, assigned a special role for Federal Member MPs to elect Upper House Senators and will involve political parties in elections. There is possibility that the election of MPs and Senators in individual constituencies may not be determined by bribes as was the case with past elections. A propspective MP or Senator cannot grease the palms of 300 persons who will elect MPs and Senators. The electoral model reduced the role of tradional leaders in electing MPs.

Puntland and Jubaland have boycotted Dhuusamareeb III Summit. South West State, Hirshabelle, Galmudug, Banadir region and the Federal Government of Somalia reached a deal on the 2021 elections in Somalia.

The National Independent Electoral Commission will flesh out details on how and when political parties can start campaigning.
