Car bomb heard at a popular hotel in Mogadishu

A huge car bomb explosion was heard on Sunday afternoon at Elite hotel in Mogadishu, the Somali capital, witnesses and police said.

The blast was followed by heavy gunfire from inside with security forces trying to maintain control of the hotel, which is located on the busy Liid beach in the capital.

The details of the casualties are yet sketchy.
