Matt Bryden paints a grim prospect resulting a tinderbox waiting to explode

Quote

If Farmaajo and his backers mistake International Recognition and Foreign Aid as substitutes for domestic approval and legitimacy, then Somalia is headed into a war for which no rationale  - whether civil,  proxy or counter-terrorism - will absolve the real perpetrators of their culpability.

Powerful words from Matt. But right on the money.

I don’t know why you always praise Gheele, he is another dictator who has done nothing for his country.

Old_Observer,

All the western's powers know that Somalia is at a critical stage where any politically wrong move by the "N&N gang" of Villa Somalia could actually fragment Somalia into irrecoverable ways.

Moreover, they have finally realized that so long as Villa Somalia could count on the financial largess of the Qatari's oil Sheikdom, then they will seldom will take their political advise as to how to move forward.

And now there is even a talk of "N&N gang" trying to buy up the patronage of the MPs with the Qatari's fund. And in effect asking the pseudo-parliament they have there to give the current administration an extension of two (2) to three (3) years extra staying time in office, with the convenient talk of how selection (let alone election) can't be held next January of 2021 in the country.

Hence, if such a thing were to ever come to pass at the hand of the "N&N gang" in Villa Somalia, then the whole ramshackle stuff will fall about like so much of a humpty-dumpty.

So we shall see how the UN's guy (i.e., Mr James Swan) who in effect is the real power of Somalia, since he wears "two hats" in which one is that he is American (with a tacit support of Trump's administration); and the other hat is that he is the UN's top man in Somalia, proceed to pull a rabbit from thin air and rescue this critical and political situation for Somalia.

But, still, all the same, the "N&N gang" in Villa Somalia are determined to extend their hold on power, come what may. And that will be a real recipe of another round of civil war in Somalia and in Mogadishu in particular. Especially, if they succeed in doing that by effectively buying the "assents" of the MPs for such "absurd political stunt". And indeed do so with what could only be described as that of a "brown-envelopes" full of Qatari's slush-fund's dollars.

Suldaanka,

Watch carefully what Mr Deni and Mr Ahmed Madoobe are cooking in up Bossaso, since they could be the "political spoilers" of whatever that is that Villa Somalia's gang are contemplating for the end of their term, come January of next year.

Moreover, the IGAD's forces-contributing states, like Kenya and Uganda, are really pissed off with Villa Somalia. Which means the security situation could get worse in any minute, particularly if the likes of Uganda decides to teach a political lesson to Villa Somalia like they did back in 2009. And that was when Uganda's strong-man, effectively, ended the then brief and "hallucinatory reign" of Mr Cheeseman as the PM of the TFG outfit of that time under Mr Sharif Sheikh Ahmed.

So there are lots of balls that are up in the air. And the only two pertinent questions are how will they all land on the ground? Or whether they will do so in safely or in chaos?

And that will be really crucial, particularly, if it becomes apparent that Villa Somalia is basically "banking-on" (as Mr Bryden already observed) the "legal recognition" of Somalia's government (which in my view was one of the most "cardinal mistake" of Obama's administration) on one hand, and on the other hand, the "financial largess" of the Qatari's slush-fund, in-order to win a political and legal "extension" of their time in office beyond January of next year (2021).

But we shall see how things will fall into pieces, since this year will be a make or break crucial year for Somalia. At at least, in-terms of its modern version of trying to find a decent means to which to move forward away from the endless crisis of its political legitimacy. Or whether they can actually do so in the short remaining period in which this current administration has left to govern the country under their "mandate", which in turn expires at next January.

  • Thanks 1

For sure a drifter from Canada, Matt Bryden,  became a millionaire from the Somali problems. THe way I see it, It seems the gravy train of looting money through NGO's is about drying up. Every penny has to go through scrutiny from Somali government.

He even suggested that the Kenyan/American base attacked by Al-shabaab was related by the killing of general Suleimani. Since when Shia Iran had any connections with the Wahabi outfit called Al-shabaab.

Now, his junior trainees  C/Rashid Khalif and others  from the so called Heritage institute are milking the false conferences about negotiations between Somaliland and Somalia. They are hired by an NGO headed by former Somaliland minister Mohamed C. Omar based in Nairobi who is  masquerading as the contractor to make money on these conferences. He invites and hires  few hungry Southern Somalis from Nairobi  to Djibouti and listen to old farts like Bulhan bragg about yesteryears.

It seems Harun Maruf had also joined that gang. They don't fool us anymore.

Galbeedi,

It really is tragic to see you losing your marbles in this way, my friend. Or at least it's sad spectacle to see you clutching flimsy straws to which to hide behind. Or to try to cover the nakedness of your argument with such flimsy ramshackle stuff.

And by that I mean, granted, that, Mr Bryden has what is known in the intellectual circles as "prior", which indicates he was never previously fond of the subject matter he is critiquing now. And that means that previously he never had a one single good opinion (let alone a two of it) to which to say about the "N&N gang" in Villa Somalia. And he even said so when they were fresh in power, back in January of 2017.

For what he said was that the "Political dalliance" of the N&N gang with Qatari's agenda in Somalia (despite their best effort of Villa Somalia to deny it) will really complicate the necessary resolution of Somalia's myriad problems. And that is so since most of the others in the ground in Somalia who are against the N&N gang, will then in turn seek their "political patron" in the same Gulf's region (in the form of UAE) to which to counter the FGS under the N&N gang.

Which is exactly what happened.

But still be that as it may, the point you are really over-looking is that the issue is not about some alleged talks about Somalia and Somaliland (which is already dead, anyway). But the detail analysis of how the FGS in Villa Somalia is heading towards a deep political confrontation with the federal member states (FMSs) of Somalia at the rate things are going. Particularly, if neither of them are that minded to "swerve" away from their direction of travel which has been set forth for a while now.

Hence, instead of outrageously obfuscating his central and pertinent argument, or trying to confuse deliberately what he said to what was never mentioned by him particularly about some alleged talks between Somalia and Somaliand in which he never talked about in this article, why don't you, for love of God, try to address his inarguable central argument. And do that without beating about the bush needlessly.

And most definitely of all, why don't you proceed to take him to task (if only you are capable of addressing his argument) without hiding behind some such tall "innuendo" about how he allegedly was in the business of making money from Somalia's endless troubles. For even if that were to be true (and I don't so far have any evidence to substantiate that), still, point is that the "central pillar" of his argument still stand. And you on the other hand, my friend, didn't so far touched his assertions or his arguments with any sort of barge-pole of a "counter argument" kind to which in turn to take him to task, really.

So lets have less of a talking-point assertions from you. And lets also have more of a substance discourse from you in here. At least in the defense you are currently doing for Villa Somalia and the "N&N gang" who are there.

The debating floor is all yours, my friend. And it's indeed open for you. However, please, bro, no more of your wild and deliberately obfuscating chases (or run-up) into the needless forest. Given that we are merely asking you to walk on the straight line of the open road, whereby we can then see you clearly as to what on earth you have to say about Villa Somalia's political gang, or for them, indeed.

Lets hear it, my friend, really.
