Somalis never had a unity government

So you came to a Somali website to tell us that there are no Somalis or no sense of Somali community.

Yes. There is no Somali community. Just Isaaq community, Darood community... ect.

You seem to be conflating a sovereign state with a nation or ethnicity. There might not be one unified Somali sovereign state but there is a Somali nation bound together by a common religion, language, manner/rituals and territory. All this manifest itself into one culture. That is unless you are telling us Somalis have managed to evolve indepent of each other and yet somehow and rather miraculously developed one culture and common ethnicity.

That is actually an interesting idea. Somalis especially in the north have developed independently from the Southern riverlands clans. If this were not true. Then people in the government of Somalia in 1987 would have stop barre from killing the Isaaq people. Also the Majeertan people in puntland would have been spared too. But they were not. Because the north and south are two different people. They saw the Isaaq and other north people as foreign and not somali.

Your argument of clanism actually reinforces the idea of the Somali identity. Nothing is more Somali than qabyaalad. And that qabyaalad touches every Somali of every region and permeates through all institutions.

Yes. Clans are what work in Somalia and the only real institution Somalis have that they can trust. which is why a clan republic would be a better system. Somalis even after the civil war and destruction are still xenophobic towards other clans. This is the only thing to have survived the civil war.

Dividing Somalis into smaller groups will not solve the problem as those smaller groups will be faced with the same problems i.e politics around clans and sub-clans and competition for meager resources.

A solution to a problem is mot to create problems.

You cannot hope to move forward until the you first recognised the painful truth and learn to accept it. We are a clan based society. No running away from that.

My response are in bold.

China had 7 States before it was united by man called Qin he was fed with the  7 States had non stop wars between them each state was attacking the other and he united them by force.

Somali people had similar opportunity almost peacefylly.

NFD, Kililka, Somaliland, Somalia at the end of WWII.

The British were the financiers and with most interest and enthusiasm. A Conference of all Somalis from all regions was held. The conflicts from the 1900-1920s fresh in their experience and also the expected competion with the roaming and expanding tribes...did not work.

1. The British Empire was closing shop and house keeping. NFD and Somaliland that have no trouble, stays in British Empire for any future considerations.

2. King Haileslassie was given offer of Zeylac and 10 to 20km wide access. He rejected instead asked for Eritrea.

3. Some lands from British control, which was taken from Menelik just for security reasons only was returned/given to Ethiopia.

4. British through UN decided Italy to stay 10 years. British as winners were not interested in taking over Somalia. British stayed 10 years in Eritrea. Wanted to divide Eritrea in half between Sudan and Ethiopia. America rejected and Gave all to Ethiopia and America opened military base in Eritrea stayed next 25 years. 4-5 thousand Americans.

That time when British were in a hurry to go, America was new to being super power and in charge, Soviets were in terrible shape, france was on its knees, Arabs were just camel herders like Somalis with something starting, then the Somali had best chance. There was no imposing leader who can talk well to those in doubt, make legal guarantee to those who really were afraid, read poems and songs for those enthusiastic.

Mogadishu became the capital of the Somali republic, why? Is this not a traditional Hawiyah clan city like Hargeisa is a Isaaq clan city. The English people started out in the city of London on the Thames river after the Romans had previously established a city called londinium on this same river. The Roman settlement was abounded in the 4th century A.D. The English moved in over 100's of years and then established a government. Now compare this with the Somalis. Wondering nomads moving about with no fix location, tending to their live stock, not building permanent settlements. So the question is simple at what point did a somali clan build Mogadishu? The name itself means the seat of the shah. It comes from the Persian word Maq'ad-i-Shah. This is a reflection of the city's early Persian influence. So were the Persians the Romans for the somalis. As the city is also called xamar by the Hawiyah clan.

Notice the similar clan development of the Japanese people. However the key difference being that the Japanese people all started out in a capital called Kyoto and latter changed to Tokyo. The Japanese people understood that their government seat was in the capital city and if they needed answers they could go there. This is what I mean by national conscious. The reading and writing institution was also developed in the capital as well as the first libraries and museums to document the history of the nation. There were conflicts between warlords and clans but they all understood that in the end it was a government for the Japanese people and not a government for one shogun seeking succession from the rest of Japan or one clan annexing land to form a new country.

This fractured clan living amongst the Somalis shows that their was not a single Somali consciousness that understood the idea of a national identity. The whole Somali ethnic group did not start out by founding a city called Xamar together and then moved outward into the horn of Africa to establish more cities (Hargeisa, Kisamyo, Bossaso..ect) always understanding that Xamar is their capital and the seat of their government. We are a nomadic wondering people with no real organic capital that Somalis built together. This is the root of the somali problem. we are not a nation but a collection of clans that speak a language called somali.

I hope I have made my case clear.
