Middle School To Offer Birth Control

How is this fast changing culture going to effect the Somali parents who may not have their minds in the 21st century but have kids that certainly are? This society has become ever increasingly more liberal to the point where 11 year olds are having sex. Najaynaaa!!!

Anagana (Somalidu) so far waan caymanaa :D we are still stuck with the occassional hastily planned wedding [hopefully before the pregnancy began to show] where everyone else counts the months and gossip about how quickly after marriage the first child arrived.

Yes. Desperate. Cos they hardly play outside, do they? Being a kid in Africa was fun but here its hell.

You have the option of sending your child to Islamic school, where such topics wouldn't be taught. Of course, even then it is still hard to raise a child in these countries. However, it does make a difference to some extent.

It's because of the shameless culture of dadkaan u imaanay. Sex is everywhere.Kids turn on the TV , go to the park , meelkasta aadtagtid nin iyo naag isisaarn lee. You can't hardly blame the children for trying to find out what the fuss is all about. There are cases of kids in prep ,which would be around 5/6yrs trying what they see on their classmates. Meeshaan sidii looga survivegareen laha waan in falan kiisa laqabta. Islamic schools na sharrtiisa mayaro,if you shelter your kids from all these obscense acts ,then know macalin adiga kaa weyn baa jiro oo aah saxibkiis or their peers.

That's just negating parent's responsibilty. I don't see how dispensing contraceptive bills to pre-puberty kids is gonna solve anything. If anything, you are raising to be irresponsible.
It is both the parents and school's resposibility ... plus the school is where the meeting is taking place at first. If the parents start this program then the schools might not need to take the same step but u can see the gap.

I agree with Aaliyah, my nieces go to Islamic school and their attitude is Masha'Allah so different to other kids. It makes a great deal of difference but at the end of the day, children learn what they live and if the adults around them are weak, not practising or don't pay enough attention to their youth, there will be problems.

Only in the land of the free.

Could this be the price of a better life we all came seeking in the west?

My question to most parents is do you know what is your child being taught in school,do you know what rights you have and what rights does your child have in this society?

Being aware of ones right is very important, you would be amazed at how many parents are ignorant of their rights to challenge school policies or any authority that meddles with their childrens lives.

There is a policy in some areas, where a child can abort without the parents knowledged, they just need to see the school matron and she deals with all the arrangements.

Markaa we are raising children in a society that has lost most of its responsibility to raising morally, socially responsible human beings. Then its our duties as parents to be more vigilant in our childrens lives.

Nephthys I too feel for Somali parents and other parents whom are clueless to what goes on around them and their children.
