US temporarily lifts sanctions on Iranian oil stuck at sea

The US Treasury is temporarily lifting sanctions on Iranian oil currently at sea, allowing it to be sold to most countries in order to keep oil prices down.

The "short-term authorization" will allow approximately 140 million barrels of oil to enter global markets, Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent said in a statement posted to X on Friday.

Bessent said Iran will have "difficulty accessing" any financial profit generated from the sale.

The authorisation is "strictly limited to oil that is already in transit and does not allow new purchases or production", Bessent said.

"In essence, we will be using the Iranian barrels against Tehran to keep the price down," he added.

Oil and gas prices have risen sharply since the war began, and after Iranian strikes hit energy infrastructure in the Middle East.

The price of Brent crude oil is holding around $112 a barrel, up 3% Friday and 53% for the past year.

    • Haha - That was funny. You made me laugh! 1

  2. Tehran is being carpet-bombed. On the other side, Iranians are hitting US bases and embassies at will. Forgot about Gulf Arabs, they are barely registering on the field.

Israel is heavily censoring their damages.

  3. Everyone around the region and the world understands and accepts the Palestinian Authority don't represent Palestinians.

Iran is an actual state with institutions unlike unlike Arab Sheikhdoms and dictators. They will fight to the bitter end.

For Iran, a win is simply outlasting this Israel- American aggression. Trump is not popular at home, and more Americans are openly questioning why should America fight on Israel's behalf.

The Arabs have been shown that their shining glass cities in the desert can't be protected by Americans and they cannot protect themselves.

Stability is what allowed their prosperity. That stability has been shaken; this definitely affect their future economic outlook.

    Xaaji,

International law applies  to weaker nations.

P.s. Ironically, the  Supreme leader didn't want nuclear weapons, but his replacement does.

Both leaders are alive. Iran launched more attacks.

You are mistaken if you think Puntland’s rift with Mogadishu is due to the UAE. It has always existed, long before the UAE established relations there. The problem in Mogadishu, since the time of Sheikh Sharif, is that the two presidents—namely Hassan Sheikh Mohamud (HSM) and Farmaajo—convinced themselves that they could sideline Puntland, tear up the agreed constitution, and forcibly consolidate power using Turkish backing. They showed no interest in reconciliation or general consensus, unlike the approach taken during Arta and Embagathi. To date, both presidents have failed miserably, and we are where we are today because of their misguided policies.

Between them, they have wasted 13 years with nothing substantial achieved in Somalia, despite all the training and manpower provided by foreign powers. Al-Shabaab controls more territory today than it did when they were first in power. Imagine that. Compare this to the Sheikh Sharif era, when there was steady progress: Mogadishu was liberated, Somalis agreed on a constitution, and for the first time Somalis elected their leaders on Somali soil.

As for the Puntland elders, there are only two Isims. Boqor Burhan fell out with Dani a long time ago when he sided with Ilmo Diyano, while Garaase is being manipulated by the infamous Aaran Jaan. Both the PSF and Jima’ale wield little influence militarily. Since losing American support, the PSF has been reduced to around 100–200 soldiers, albeit well armed. Jima’ale also has limited power; he was nearly disarmed by Dani and is left with only a few aging Siyad Barre–era technicals.

Dani, on the other hand, enjoys strong support in Mudug and Sanaag. While he faces opposition in Nugaal and Bari, those regions are unlikely to align themselves with Ilmo Diyano and Aaran Jaan. Therefore, I would caution against underestimating him. Also, if you really have Somalia's interest at heart what you would be calling for should be Somali solution free from foreign countries be it Turkey, Saudi or any other. None of them care about Somalis unless it is in their interest.

Opposing the central gov is a tradition for Pland. And it has been since Farole days. The UAE merely used the  preexisting fissures.

As for Deni, he brought us HSM who was already known to dislike Pland. His opposition to HSM is personal. It has nothing to do with the interest of Pland. He also personalized his opposition to Farmajo. He made a point of wanting to oust Farmaajo and not coz it was good for the country.

I share your sentiment about foreign involvement in our affairs.

I do credit Deni for the fight against Deash.

i never thought they would leave puntland why is that ,,   even siciid deni is in Abu dhabi as we speak they lost the yemen war not sure how things are going for the RSF the RSF hasnt lost ground

They always used Puntland as a hedge and a tool against the central gov. Their investment in Puntland was minimal.

Deni's authority has been diminishing thanks to his inability to comprise and antagonize everyone.

PSF and clan militias from Garowe are openly defying him. Issimada are done with him.
