While Abiy, in his parliamentary speech, sought to reassure the public about the potential resumption of war in the North, fighting has intensified in both the Amhara and Oromia regions. In addition to ongoing clashes in West and East Shewa, the OLA has opened new battlefronts in the East Arsi and Hararge zones—areas where it previously had little to no presence.
In Amhara, Fano groups have launched a coordinated offensive against government forces across all zones of the region. The government has reportedly deployed mechanized forces for the first time since the insurgency began two years ago. While both insurgents and the national army claim victories, the devastation to civilians and public infrastructure is undeniable. Today, the ENDF officially accused Brigadier General Migbe Haile, a well-known Tigrayan commander, of orchestrating Fano’s latest campaign. This signals a serious escalation between Abiy and the Tigrayan forces, raising the risk of renewed conflict between the two. It also marks a significant shift, as the government had previously blamed Eritrea for supporting Fano.
Despite Abiy’s bold assertions in parliament about his military’s strength, battlefield reports and testimonies from ENDF commanders suggest that the national army is barely holding the line in Oromia and Amhara. Lacking a coherent counterinsurgency strategy and exhausted from prolonged civil war, the army faces an increasingly dire threat to its institutional survival.

Ethiopia: TPLF faction seizes control of Mekelle FM 104.4, mayor’s office amid rising tensions in #Tigray
A faction within the Tigray People’s Liberation Front (TPLF) has taken control of Mekelle FM 104.4 and the city’s mayor’s office, sources told Addis Standard, as tensions escalate between the interim administration and TPLF-aligned military commanders.Residents in Mekelle, #Adigrat, and #Adigudem described an atmosphere of fear and uncertainty. “People are withdrawing money and buying essential goods,” a Mekelle resident said, fearing what might follow.
In Adigudem, a resident reported that “six local leaders were detained and taken to unknown locations” on March 12, describing a pattern where “those who oppose administrative changes disappear.” Similar concerns were raised in Adigrat, where long lines formed at banks. “The situation is unbearable,” a resident said, noting that many youth feel they have “nowhere to turn.”

"I briefed the ambassadors of @USEmbassyAddis, @GerEmbAddis, @AmbafranceET, @ItalyinEthiopia, @EUinEthiopia, @UKinEthiopia on the recent developments in Tigray and the challenges the interim administration continues to face in performing its functions. And of course we discussed at length on how to better arrest the deteriorating situation in the region and the efforts all stakeholders to the Pretoria agreement need to avert any relapse to yet another round of devastating war where the involvement of many regional actors with nefarious plans is a distinct possibility. The people of Tigray deserve peace!"

#Ethiopia: #Tigray Interim Admin urges federal gov’t for “necessary assistance,” warns of “looming danger”
The Tigray Regional Interim Administration has urged the federal government to “understand” the worsening crisis and “provide necessary support,” warning that a faction within the Tigray military forces is working to “dismantle” the Pretoria Agreement and destabilize the region. The administration claimed that since January 23, 2025, some high-ranking commanders have been mobilizing to carry out “an outright coup to serve the power interests of a few,” with illegal activities intensifying on the Northeastern and Southern fronts.
The administration also accused the commanders of attempting to “dismantle the Interim Administration from top to bottom” while carrying out “illegal actions” against civilians. It alleged that these figures, driven by the interests of “a power-hungry group,” are undermining the administration and violating the Pretoria Agreement, exacerbating the suffering of the Tigray people. In its statement, the administration called on the federal government to provide necessary assistance and not remain “silent” as the region faces “looming danger.” It further appealed to the international community to “exert necessary pressure” on the group and its backers, warning that failure to act would lead to “another round of suffering” for the people of Tigray.

Getachew Reda is being deposed. The old TPLF guard which apparently is allied with Eritrea has taken over Tigray
"A misguided decision by a cabal of few army officers to take the law into their hands and dismantle state structures throughout Tigray the last few days has plunged the region into an uncharted territory, with civilians protesting these illegal moves being rounded up and shot at at random. Many casualties in Adigudom and parts of Mekelle. The rampage is part of a harebrained plan to install an illegal faction of TPLF into the position of power, a move that flies full in the face of the aspirations of the people of Tigray and if the Pretoria Agreement. It’s incumbent upon all the stakeholders to the Pretoria agreement to face down such a brazen move before it escalates into another round of devastating war on and against the people of Tigray. There is every reason to believe external forces are trying to take advantage of this crisis to stock up more violence throughout the region and beyond. As if the suffering of hundreds of thousands of people in IDP camps is not worse enough, the very officers who only recently put themselves in harm’s way in their people’s cause. Much as it pains me to break ranks with my erstwhile comrades, it’s altogether fitting and appropriate that we condemn such reckless acts of unmitigated violence in the service of a faction hell bent on grabbing power at all costs."

Lt. Gen. Tsadkan warns #Ethiopia-#Eritrea war "seems inevitable," urges last-minute efforts to avert war
Lt. Gen. Tsadkan Gebretensae, Vice President and Democratization Cabinet Secretariat of the Tigray Interim Administration, has warned that war between Ethiopia and Eritrea “seems inevitable,” with preparations reaching their “final stages” and Tigray at risk of becoming the main battleground. Writing in The Africa Report, he cautioned that the conflict could spread beyond the two countries, affecting Sudan and the Red Sea region. While Tigray “would prefer to stay out” of the conflict, he said, the “option for peace may be narrowing, leaving war as the only option.”
Tsadkan claimed the alliance between Addis Abeba and Asmara has “gradually deteriorated” since the Pretoria peace agreement, making war more likely. He accused Eritrea of engaging in “predatory state behavior” and attempting to “take advantage of countries around it, particularly Ethiopia and Sudan.” He also warned that divisions within Tigray could complicate the situation, alleging that some leaders were “indifferent to the fate of the people of Tigray” and were seeking an alliance with Eritrea to remove Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed before “eventually turning against Eritrea itself.” Urging last-minute diplomatic efforts to prevent war, he stressed that if deterrence fails, the “shortest termination of the war by all means—military or diplomatic—is in the best interest of Tigray and the region.”

Amhara are in difficult situation. If Abiy wins the wars, that means Oromo domination for decades. If he loses, it might lead to disintegration of Ethiopia.
Cagjar is mute, but Somalis are about Afars as they are being trained and armed by Abiy.

War between Eritrea between Ethiopia and Eritrea is getting closer every day with all Abyssinians on side and the Oromo-led Ethiopia on the other.

Can he help the Liberals in defeat the Conservatives and Pierre Poilievre?
Trump did the Liberals a huge favor even if they lose the elections.
-
The Tigrayans are split. The old guard that controls majority of their armed forces made a deal with Afwerki. The interim government didn’t. There were efforts to unite the two.
Regardless, everyone sees the Oromo as the bigger threat.
-
He meant Assab port which they believe is historically theirs. Both Eritreans and Ethiopians are amassing troops along the Tigray-Afar borders. The Eritreans have the advantage of already being inside Ethiopia. They are also supporting Amharas and the military wing of the TPLF directly.
It will be Abyssinians vs Oromo. If Abiy wins the war, the Horn is his for while and Oromo will reign supreme. If he loses, Ethiopia might cease to exist or be in perpetual war.
