  1. Hata wa Songea husema wametoka Dar(referred to Bongo but not anymore)hadi nchi huitwa Bongo siku hizi ka hujui, CL. Mpaka locals wanarefer TZ ka Bongo. Wako wengi hapa wakisifu Bongo flava zao (Boring Tz hiphop. Don't confuse it for Dar hiphop coz of the name btw. Ati Dar inatisha Nai? Hiyo ni mpya!
  3. Stoic, exactly. That was my question. But why do they still do? This applies markedly to the school-going youth(high school). But besides wicked politics and the government's slackness towards NEP's development, Gsa folks can of course boast of their easy and direct access to the capital, better schools, roads, you name it. Lol@Gateway..Brings back memories. Used to be one of our bases. Praying Maghrib after a chaotic football match between red eagles and the police team..gone are the days! Originally posted by cynical lady: p.s wapemba wajuana kwavilemba, sijui wakenya wajuana kwa matangazo...wana makelele hao! Kwanza nakugotea sis wangu. Ningependa kulapa hiyo lakini kusema kweli mambo zimebadilika siku hizi. Mpaka wa bongo wanajiskia? Haki nime bagawa!
  4. ^^Stoic has a point there. It's a global disease. But are there Somalis from Nairobi? Though being in Eastleigh since 60's, somalis were primarily in Nai for trade purposes and didn't settle permanently untill recently. Save for few who were there since 80's. Not taking into account somalis from Somalia. But quite a number of kenyan Somalis have been living in upcountry Kenya for decades. And were known to have even adopted the locals' traditional ways of living. These were found among others in Nanyuki area as cattle herders. But why do Garissa folks look down on Wajir and Mandera people. Bob; How was your experience in Garissa as an "outlander"? Were the locals (especially the youth) hostile? I remember the regrettable clashes/beatings around Guled area between GSS boys and the "aliens"
  5. ^^I meant that they were so conservative that they got so irritated when it came to that field. You could even get slapped for initiating such an act. Not the aggressiveness of taking the first initiative. Yaaba heli karaaba taasi. KK; Tawakal is a relative of Isseh. He was quite famous back in the days, but things weren't working well for him lately. He permanently moved to Nairobi.
  6. ^^ No bad feelings but I've been there once and didn't see any msupuu there..And it seemed they were deprived of shukaasi as they were aggressive when it came to that front. Isseh, am fine bro. Remember geela laba jir wuu soo wadamaray .
  7. Lol. This brings back lots of good, old memories! Reminds me of the "cages" in Ngamia Road. Those bloody cages contributed alot to the poor perfomance of Gss and County students in the national exams. I wonder if they're still popular as they were in my heydays. Have to agree with you. NEP was home to a fair share of the hot manzis in Garissa. But NEP was primarily famous coz of the girls' freedom to meet their suitors any time of the day/night compared to Umu-salama(a day school), which by the way was home to some of the hottest supuus in town, but were more discrete. Not mentioning Nep's uniform. The administration was very flexible on how the girls could tailor/design their uniforms. This left the popular girls with eye-soothing appearances. I remember the shocked faces of the somehow backward (in fashion) Wajir people during a sport/science congress trip there with Nep girls. They couldn't believe what they saw. When(year) were you in Gsa? There is a high likelihood that I know your brothers.
  8. An internet-addict, maybe. I know a few of them who suffer from internet addiction who have forsaken their work, families and other social activities due to their hang-up. See if you are one of those..and take The Internet Addiction Test
  9. He was once(70-80's) considered to be an great statesman by these same western felons but demonised after he refused to be their poodle. And he was darn right to get the stolen land back it's original owners but his politics/approach wasn't smart. He would've done that gradually, not in hasty as he did. In another note he spent 10 years in prison for his country just as the Great Nkurumah, Kenyatta, mandela and others did. But as for now and the for the goodness of his country he should step down. He can't afford to starve his people just because he's a beef with a dim wit in a poshy suburb in London.
  10. FB as a place to meet your former classmates, long lost friends and family members is quite interesting, but you know what's weired in FB, people adding people they don't know as "friends". Thought one adds only his/her actuall friends/acquaintances. Somalida always tend to take things to another level.

  13. Must be due to hard work! The average Philipino have two jobs down here, while other Asians like the vietnamese and arab league members e.g somalis hardly hold a job. I had few of them in my college and oh boy, these guys had more than a full-time job, while studying full-time.
  14. Need some help with some somali words here too. I was asked to test the language skills(somali) of some Somali kids in lower secondary, but the texts (essays) provided contain words that I've never heard of. Words like; Wasaasin ama bareello and Nijaar (Is it a carpenter?) And what do you call these tools in Somali; Screwdriver, saw, a hammer, chimney and a nail (not cidida). Thanks.
  15. Reading thro' this thread you get a picture of somalis as a peace-loving society, people who are more than eager to unite and love each other. This has been the case for the last 15 or so years. So hypocritical of us! Every Somali(on Somalia issues)always talk of peace and unity but their actions depict otherwise. Peace in Somalia? Very skeptical! And mark me, hope is futile in Somalia's case. I doubt that we'll ever rise up as one. Not in our era of extreme distrust.
  16. Latest; Police say they tapped the phone of the one in custody and could reveal that he had a direct contact with Al-Shabaab leaders. Transfering around 40.000 USD to Al-Shabaab accounts in Somalia. But the main challenge for the police is to prove that Al-Shabaab is a terrorist group and not a resistance movement, a popular belief many somalis hold.
  17. Originally posted by J.a.c.a.y.l.b.a.r.o: Anyone has the names of those arrested ??? ,,, did they publish their names ?? They didn't. But they run Xawaalada la yirahdo Shabeele, if that rings a bell. Hundreds of Somalis(including Landers ) have uniformly showed their support today by storming the local court, and declaring they're all terrorists if fighting the Ethiopian occupation is deemed terrorism by the Norwegian gov't. A brave move, indeed. PS; Two of the suspects are already released due to lack of crude evidence(but with pending interrogations). The remaining one was jailed for four weeks awaiting further court appearances.
  18. Oh yes, we're mapped. And it's just the beginning! The pig-headed and self-conceited secular fundamentalists are on the march. And the future is bleak, indeed. They're so militant, aggressive and hegemonistic that they want to standardize societies under their pre-conditioned norms. They demand unconditional submission without any sign of openness, flexibility, permissiveness or pragmatism. In france they forbade Hijab, in Denmark and other countries pestering and showing disdain for Islam's principles has become norm of the day, while using freedom of speech as the shield. Not mentioning phrases like "If they don't submit to the rules and regualtions of the bigger society, they can go home" by some of their right-wing leaders. A threat to co-existence. No wonder there's widespread rebellion among minorities. Many muslim youths undergo identity crisis as a result of a deeper conflict between fundmentalistic secularism, the dominating force, and the cultures they belong to. Thus easily influenced to join extreme forces.
  19. ^^In what way did they show they're friends of Somalia? Yep, maybe by arresting poor somalis that send few bucks to their families back home and accuse them of financing terrorists. And who are you hoping for their arrest?
  20. ^^Exactly. And we can only blame ourselves. We wouldn't have suffered in the hands of those bastar!ds if we didn't blow up our own country.
  21. ^^Names? True, Isseh. That old adage applies here. Even the norwegian pundits couldn't agree on that. Many Somalis see them as freedom fighters. PS; Media reports say that two of the three suspects arrested in Oslo will be released tomorrow. The remaining one will face charges of financing terrorists in Somalia. If found guilty, he risks a maximum imprisonment of 10 years.
  22. Six Somali Terror Suspects Arrested in Scandinavian Internet Cafe Raid For Norsk-talende. Seems uncle Sam got the scandavians rallying behind Ethiopia at last. Six Somalis were caught unawares in a simultaneous police razzia in Oslo and Stockholm today. The somalis, who run one of the Somali-owned Xawalads were arrested for allegedly financing a "terrorist organization"(called Shaabab) in Somalia. The police also confisticated documents and computers from their offices. This came as a shock to the Somali community in Norway who denied the existence of such links.
