  1. Somalina, The SNM ragtag militia was defeated by Col. Du'ale and Gen. Jama Green. Erigabo remained under the full control of the Somali government until its collapse in 1991 or late 90. Thousands of Makhiris died in the SNM launched wars of Erigavo, with my own sub-sub-clan enduring the heaviest casualty. The wars had not ceased until the 1993 major peace conferences, which were held in Jidali and Shimbiraale towns of Western Sanaag. Don't force me to post documents. Erigabo is ruled under that agreement whose violation could lead the communities in Erigavo away from the peace that they currently are blessed to have. The politics of Erigavo governance is complicated and is based on mutual understanding. Priorities focus on maintaining the power balance and stability. Well said xiinfaniin.
  2. C'mon Mr. Somalia, Haygu dirin Somalina...
  3. Reminds me of former President Abdullahi Yusuf. He's not physically there but his vision for federal Somalia seems to be working just fine. Jaale Madaxweyne Shariif soo dhawow.
  4. Africa, I have emphasized many times how Erigabo is a shared town. The fact that its denizens are divided over the question of Somalia's dismemberment doesn't necessarily mean the secessionists own the city. Once Xamar is normal and has functioning government of national union, this whole clannish bickering will be put to rest. Reer Ceerigaabo chose peace over intermittent violence and destruction. Thus the belligerent rhetoric which "Somalilanders" seem to enjoy only paints them desperate and vengeful of past misdeeds.
  5. Somalia;789291 wrote: @NASSIR These are the people who send a "Defence Minister" to his region and then expect us to believe it comes under his authority. Indeed. Cadami made unannounced , overnight visit and had immediately left Makhir. The secessionists seem to forget that it was Gen. Ilkajir who blocked the voter registration of "SL" from ever taking place main Sanaag region.
  6. AfricaOwn, Majority of Makhiris don't even know the secessionist sub-clans in western Erigavo. Don't be duped by the Hargeisa's propaganda machine. The deluded separatists have even squeezed the huge Sanaag map below.. http://www.sac-na.org/pdf_text/somalia_ph3/ SOM2&3_PosterMap.pdf
  7. Nice read. I like healthy and open public debates on the variety of our 'issues of the day" .
  8. A naive observation!! Don't underestimate the hearts of Daraawiish folks, the champions of Somali independence. Badhan is the capital of Makhir State. Eastern Erigavo and Laasqoray happen to be our commercial cities.
  9. What happened to the peace dealthat was brokered by the elders? This conflict which was triggered by Ade's admin has consumed more and more lives, not to mention the displacement of hundreds of families in Western Bari region.
  10. lol. Carafaat acknowledges PL's dominance over SL however fake that notion might be.
  11. Many thanks to the Republic of Turkey Turkish Red Crescent did not only send aid materials to Somalia but also aimed to give training to Somali people, he said. Turkish Red Crescent will open a nursing and health care professional school in famine-stricken Somalia. Ahmet Lutfi Akar, director general of the aid organization, told AA correspondent that they would establish a nursing and health care school in Somali capital of Mogadishu to train health personnel. Turkish Red Crescent did not only send aid materials to Somalia but also aimed to give training to Somali people, he said. A great number of health personnel was needed in health sector in Somalia, he said. Akar said that a protocol has been signed for construction of the school which would begin to serve next year. The health care school will give training to 250 students, he said. Source:AA
  12. Somalina, lol@Puntlander..Is this guy from another planet?
  13. Oodweyne, Have't we discussed the issue of Erigavo, a shared Somali city, in the past?
  14. Aaliyah, I fully support Khaatumo state and I want Khatumo and Makhir regions to merge in the forseable future.
  15. Aaliyyah;788487 wrote: Nassir, he made some valid points and I agree with him that Somaliland should stay clear. But, the fact that he considers sanaag to be part of puntland is a sad case .it is time makhir state to stand alone or join khaatumo state and has an equal voice. We all know puntland dacad ma aha ..wax la sheegtona ma aha. salaam You right cuz. But Aqil Faisal is no political leader. He is just a much respected elder who knows the ins and outs of the region. Thus he is right to state the fact that the region falls under the jurisdiction of its inhabitants contrary to what the secessionists tell the international media. He also sees Puntland not from the perspective of what is the best interest of Sanaag and Haylaan regions but from kinship point of view.. I don't blame him. President Jibril Ali Salad, MP Awad Asharah or Gen. Abdullahi Ilkajir has that political influence and leadership to re-establish Makhir State. But as of now, Makhir is part of Puntland..
  16. Aaliyah, Well said Aaliyah. You know the history... Xaaji, And who do we listen to? Siilaanyo, the SNM veteran?
  17. You wlc Aaliyah. I copied two important points he made...
  18. Exclusive Interview Somalia Report: You are one of the most famous traditional elders of Sanaag region. What can you tell us about this region ? Aqil Faisal: The situation of the region is calm and peaceful. As you know this region has been one of the most peaceful regions in Somalia since the [centeral] government collapsed, but we have had some difficulties like the drought. We have had support from the Puntland government so now the security is good and there are a lot of development happening. The Diaspora and locals have started to reinvest in all districts and villages and we are building facilities for the University of Maakhir in Badhan city.... Somalia Report: Somaliland and Puntland dispute this region. What are your comments about that? Aqil Faisal: Let me tell you something. This region is not disputed. The government controls most of the region, which is primarily inhabited by the ********** clan (sub clan of *****). The people in this region are from the same tribe as the people who live in Puntland. We are part of Puntland, so we want to warn Somaliland government to stay on their own land and not interfere in other clans and respect their neighbors
  19. Ngonge, The primary concern for us is not the possibility of Somalia's partial or full dismemberment first and foremost. The British foreign secretary made it clear in his speeches that his government would not violate the territorial integrity of Somalia. The AU is irrelevant and can't impose unilateral partition on our country. Partition if it ever plausibly acceptable in the eyes of the Somali people would be done through a national referendum and mutual agreement. However the real issue I address in this topic is accountability for the money the secessionist authority gets from the UK gov't and for setting up assurances that such funds aren't diverted for political purposes. Without betting on the side of a minority secessionist group, I think the UK government needs to balance its colonial nostalgia with practical political consideration for all Somali stakeholders.
  20. Somalina, I love Beletwein. So fertile and beautiful...

  22. I remember one time looking at a scruffy and worn-out page from the Daily Nation's Entertainment section. The title exactly read, "Whitney Houston earns $40 million dollar a year". I couldn't believe it then.. One of the most successful singers..R.I.P
  23. The Sage, You should know 40% of UK's aid to Somalia goes to Hargeisa. If that is not tipping the balance in favor of the secessionist authority I don't know what it is.
  24. Somalia;788148 wrote: Hahahahaha, it doesn't work like that. haye, Are you saying the rift between Hobyo and Beletwein is too deep and unbridgeable? A friend of mine who is one of the architects of Galmudug told me once of the need to expand the state to incorporate other central regions. Thus far, Galmudug is half of Mudug. It doesn't even have the political support of Cadaado district.
  25. Che, You should know better given its colonial history and present involvement of the northern regions. HOWEVER, Makhiris are in between anarchy and secession. They are quite holding the torch of Somali unity and the main force opposed to the principal of Somali unity intact (History teaches us that British Somaliland came into political and administrative region right after protection treaties). To forestall anarchy and entrenched distrust btw Somalia's clans and STOP the secession, Makhir proponents promote federalism. Some of us argue Puntland is where they can achieve this noble national objective. Others like I campaign for an independent Maakhir State whereas other individuals are in the middle or lean towards the secessionist authority in Hargeisa. On the other hand, Maakhiris' support and strategic alliance with their closest kith and kin (that means Puntland) have inevitably led to obstacles and internal issues and regional adversaries such as Ethiopia The dual-track policy proposed by the United States could still serve as the basis of a noble goal worth pursuing. And it might give a better chance to the new polity of Somalia away from the current hopelessness and undemocratic centralization.
