  1. I wonder how many women had misconceptions about pads when it was first introduced? Well said
  2. Sheh, dont you think your taking the matter an extra mile? Bro Nur is making amends and like everyone else I was looking forward to know where he stood in the end. ....paper on the invalidity of NURology point of view is a testament... ^^He delivered the answer. Though its a call he will have to make, to satisfy e-nuri customers. I dont think he ran. Like any other mod who works on SOL *we all volunteers remember* he also has responsibilities of his own. Back to the topic. Prof. Samater, Im honoured to receive such a letter of recommendation from your offices. As a former student of e-Nuri Academy of Soul Healing Sciences, I was wondering will there be an opening for further studies within this field? As it was brought to my attention that I am lacking "to construct my own ingenious Algorithms" though I can argue that my approach to matters do differ. What matters is the original context or idea stands pure and should be explained in detail. If I am to cite an example I would like to mention two important figures in Islam. One being Abubakar "As Siddique "and the other Umar "Farooq" , the were men of honour and fought well for Islam. The former known to be compassionate but firm the latter self-assertive, frank and straight forward. He always spoke whatever was in his mind even if it displeased others. My point, these great men used different approaches but reached a common goal. Im not in a possession to recommend anyone though beleive that there are other students with remarkable persona who must be on your list awaiting their letters. Thus, looking forward to read their letters, too. Fiamanillah, Warrior of light. Graduate e-Nuri Academy of Soul Healing Sciences NB:Bro Nur, you made me laugh.
  3. [لاَ Ø¥Ùكْرَاهَ ÙÙÙ‰ الدّÙين٠قَد تَّبَيَّنَ الرّÙشْد٠مÙÙ†ÙŽ الْغَيّÙ] There is no compulsion in religion. Verily, the right path has become distinct from the wrong path [Ùَمَنْ يَكْÙÙرْ بÙالطَّـغÙوت٠وَيÙؤْمÙÙ† بÙاللَّه٠Ùَقَد٠اسْتَمْسَكَ بÙالْعÙرْوَة٠الْوÙثْقَى لاَ انÙÙصَامَ لَهَا وَاللَّه٠سَمÙيعٌ عَلÙيمٌ] Whoever disbelieves in Taghut and believes in Allah, then he has grasped the most trustworthy handhold that will never break. And Allah is All-Hearer, All-Knower Explaination by Ibn Qathiir. There is no compulsion in religion, meaning, "Do not force anyone to become Muslim, for Islam is plain and clear, and its proofs and evidence are plain and clear. Therefore, there is no need to force anyone to embrace Islam. Rather, whoever Allah directs to Islam, opens his heart for it and enlightens his mind, will embrace Islam with certainty. Whoever Allah blinds his heart and seals his hearing and sight, then he will not benefit from being forced to embrace Islam. Whoever disbelieves in Taghut and believes in Allah, then he has grasped the most trustworthy handhold that will never break. And Allah is All-Hearer, All-Knower is in reference to, "Whoever shuns the rivals of Allah, the idols, and those that Shaytan calls to be worshipped besides Allah, whoever believes in Allah's Oneness, worships Him alone and testifies that there is no deity worthy of worship except Him, then he has grasped the most trustworthy handhold. Therefore, this person will have acquired firmness [in the religion] and proceeded on the correct way and the straight path. Abu Al-Qasim Al-Baghawi recorded that `Umar said, "Jibt means magic, and Taghut means Shaytan. Verily, courage and cowardice are two instincts that appear in men, the courageous fights for those whom he does not know and the coward runs away from defending his own mother. Man's honor resides with his religion and his status is based upon his character, even if he was Persian or Nabatian.'' `Umar's statement that Taghut is Shaytan is very sound, for this meaning includes every type of evil that the ignorant people of Jahiliyyah (pre Islamic era of ignorace) fell into, such as worshipping idols, referring to them for judgement, and invoking them for victory. then he has grasped the most trustworthy handhold that will never break means, "He will have hold of the true religion with the strongest grasp.'' Allah equated this adherence to the firm handhold that never breaks because it is built solid and because its handle is firmly connected. This is why Allah said here, then he has grasped the most trustworthy handhold that will never break Mujahid said, "The most trustworthy handhold is Iman (faith).'' As-Suddi said that it refers to Islam. Imam Ahmad recorded that Qays bin `Abbad said, "I was in the Masjid when a man whose face showed signs of humbleness came and prayed two Rak`ahs that were modest in length. The people said, `This is a man from among the people of Paradise.' When he left, I followed him until he entered his house, and I entered it after him and spoke with him. When he felt at ease, I said to him, `When you entered the Masjid, the people said such and such things.' He said, `All praise is due to Allah! No one should say what he has no knowledge of. I will tell you why they said that. I saw a vision during the time of the Messenger of Allah, and I narrated it to him. I saw that I was in a green garden, ' and he described the garden's plants and spaciousness, `and there was an iron pole in the middle of the garden affixed in the earth and its tip reached the sky. On its tip, there was a handle, and I was told to ascend the pole. I said, `I cannot.' Then a helper came and raised my robe from behind and said to me, `Ascend.' I ascended until I grasped the handle and he said to me, `Hold on to the handle.' I awoke from that dream with the handle in my hand. I went to the Messenger of Allah and told him about the vision and he said, "As for the garden, it represents Islam; as for the pole, it represents the pillar of Islam; and the handle represents the most trustworthy handhold. You shall remain Muslim until you die."
  4. Bismillaah-hir-Rahmaan-nir-Raheem AssalamuAlaikum wa Rahmatullahi wa Barakaatuh The MIND Dr. Ja`far Sheikh Idris AlJumuah 13/2 (Safar 1422) A discussion on the basic qualities of a healthy mind and what it will enable a person to do as described in the Qur'an. Mind and reason are an essential part of Islamic thought and legislation. One could not exist without the other. What exactly do we refer to when we talk about the mind? There are two kinds of reasoning by the mind that have been identified. The first is intuitive reasoning that includes: the capacity to comprehend, make rational conclusions, form speech and behave sensibly. The second kind of reasoning is acquired from our environment, such as the things we have been taught or become familiarized with. I shall discuss intuitive reasoning for it is what Allah has granted to all, and it is what makes us accountable for our behavior. One who does not possess a mind or has lost his mind cannot be fully responsible for what he does. Often, a person will have a good mind, and then choose not to use it or restrain it from thinking logically when it comes to matters of religion and faith. He will end up being one of the unfaithful and will be held accountable for his ignorance in religion. "And it is not for any soul to believe, except by the leave of Allah, and He lays abomination on those who have' no understanding." [10:100]. It is no wonder that the punishment of those who do not believe is equivalent to that of those who do not understand. "Whoever Allah wishes to guide, He expands his chest to Islam, and whoever He wishes to leave astray, He makes his chest narrow and constricted as if he were climbing up to the sky. So Allah lays abomination on those who do not believe." [6:125]. These two verses point out that one cannot possibly purify his heart unless he puts his mind to work, allowing faith and security into his heart. The Qur'an refers to the mind in different ways depending on the nature of the task being dealt with: 1. The mind is able to understand and process speech. "Do you (Muslims) expect that they (Jews) will be believers, while some of them used to listen to the revelation of Allah (Torah), then intentionally tamper with it, while they understood it and knew it was the Truth?" [2:75]. "We have revealed it an Arabic Qur'an, that you may understand." [12:2] The reason the Qur'an was revealed in Arabic was so that the minds of the people upon whom it was descended would be able to grasp it and appreciate its meanings. 2. The mind is able to project coherent and non-conflicting thoughts. "O people of earlier scripture! Why do you argue about Ibrahim, when the Torah and Injeel were not revealed until after him? Do you not have minds?" [3:65]. Those who claim that Ibrahim was a Jew or a Christian are contradicting themselves, since both Judaism and Christianity came long after the time of Ibrahim. The surah of al-Anaam, verse 91, also refers to the Jews contradicting themselves: "And they did not attach the proper esteem to Allah when they said, 'Allah has not revealed anything to any human.' Say, 'Who then sent down the Book which Moses brought as a light and as a guidance to people, which you divided into fragments, part of which you show to the people, and most of which you hide from them, and you were taught knowledge which neither you nor your fathers had possessed! Say, 'It is Allah,' then leave them to churn in their vain discourses." The verse points that the Jews cannot claim to believe in the prophecy of Moses, and in the Torah, then go on to say that Allah did not reveal anything to any humans, because those are contradicting thoughts. 3. The mind is able to understand proof and evidence of truth. "He has set for you an analogy from your lives: Have you, among that which your right hands possess, partners in what We have bestowed on you sharing with you equally, and you fear them as you fear each other? Thus we make clear the signs for people who understand." [6:28] "Say, 'If Allah had pleased, I would not have recited the Qur'an to you, nor would you have had any knowledge of it, indeed, I have already lived among you for a lifetime before it, do you not understand?" [10:16]. 4. Actions must correspond to words. "Do you enjoin the performance of good deeds on the people and neglect it yourselves, while you read the Scriptures, do you not have any sense?" [2:44]. This verse is reprimanding the people, not for encouraging others to adhere to the way of Allah, for that is always a virtue. The verse, however, is pointing out the contradiction of the people who are giving good advice but not taking it themselves. In any case, how the giver of good advice behaves does not reduce the value of the advice, such as a smoker or an alcoholic warning his children against the harms of those behaviors. It is far better than encouraging them to take on such harmful habits and better than not giving them any useful advice at all. Still, it does not make much sense to recognize the value of behaving in a certain way, and encourage others to do so, while acting in an opposing manner. For this reason, the good prophet in the Surah of Hood, verse 88 said, "He said, 'O my people, just consider, if I stand upon clear proof from my Lord, and He has provided me with sustenance good and pure, and I do not wish to dispute with you about that which I forbid you to do. I only desire to reform you as far as I am able. My success in that rests only with Allah, and in Him I put my trust and to Him I turn." 5. The mind enables the person to make intelligent choices about what is good for him and what is harmful and should be rejected. "And the worldly life is no more but play and diversion, surely the last abode is better for those who are pious, then will you not understand?" [6:32]. "Surely We have revealed to you a Book in which is a message for you, will you then not understand?" [21:10]. 6. People of mind are able to give up immediate, short-lived benefits in favor of eventually gaining more valuable, eternal joy. "Whatever you have been given of things, they are only the worldly possessions of this life and its glitter, but that which is with Allah is better and everlasting. Have you then no sense?" [28:10]. In other verses, there is no direct mention of sense, but it can be inferred that sensible people will be able to choose to wait for what is further away, yet more meaningful. For example, "O you who believe, what is amiss with you, that when it is said to you, 'March forth in the cause of Allah (to fight)', you cling excessively to the earth. Are you content with the life of this world, rather than the Hereafter? Yet joy on this world, compared to the Hereafter, is but little." [9:38]. 7. People of mind are able to learn valuable lessons from the events of life. In the Surah of al-Ankabut verse 35 tells us that the remains of the town of the people of Loot remained in order to remind people and teach them that rejecting the teachings of Allah and committing atrocities will always have regrettable consequences. "And we have left a clear sign of it for people who possess minds." This is also referred to in verse 40 of Surah al-Furqan, "And surely they must have passed by the town that was rained on by an evil rain, did they not see it? But they were hoping not to be raised again (from the graves)." 8. The mind enables us to learn from the lessons of history. "And We have not sent before you any but men from among the people of the towns. We revealed to them. Have they not traveled in the land, have they not seen how was the end of those before them? And the abode of the Hereafter is better for those who fear Allah. Do you not then understand?" [12:109]. 9. The mind enables us to understand and appreciate the signs of the Creator, while here on earth. "Surely in the creation of the heavens and the earth, in the disparity of the night and the day, in the ships that course in the sea with that which benefits people, in the water that Allah sends down from the sky, reviving with it the earth after it was barren, in His spreading in it all kinds of living things, in the changing of the winds and of the subjected clouds between the earth, indeed are Signs for people who have understanding." [2:164]. "For you, Allah subjected the night and the day, and the sun and the moon, and the stars are in subjection to His command. Surely in this are signs for people for people who understand." [16:12]. 10. Sensible people will know to treat others with respect, particularly in their dealings with the prophets. The Surah of al-Hujurat refers to people who harassed the Prophet, sallallahu alayhi wa sallam: "Surely those who call out to you from behind the chambers, most of them do not possess minds." The qualities of the mind discussed are fairly indisputable and it is accepted by most people that a person who lacks these qualities will be seen as unreasonable or lacking in various ways. Thus the Qur'an has reminded us that certain behaviors are inconsistent with an intelligent and sound mind. We must remember also that there are many verses of the Qur'an that do not specifically mention the mind; but indicate that thoughtful and reasonable people will be able to follow the way of Allah - making good use of their God-given gift: the Mind. 5. 3:103. And hold fast, all of you together, to the Rope of Allâh (i.e. this Qur'ân), and be not divided among yourselves, and remember Allâh's Favour on you, for you were enemies one to another but He joined your hearts together, so that, by His Grace, you became brethren (in Islâmic Faith), and you were on the brink of a pit of Fire, and He saved you from it. Thus Allâh makes His Ayât (proofs, evidences, verses, lessons, signs, revelations, etc.,) clear to you, that you may be guided. Us being muslims is just a blessing. Got nothing to do with sects, the Good Muslim will be rewarded. Do what you can do, read the Quraan, practise and adhere to the Sunnah, take the Anbiya and Sahaba as role models and dont forsake the world, got to find the balance. Use common sense as there was no Sunni, shia nor salafi in the time of the Prophet SAW.We are blowing sectarianism to strange proportions.Personally,I hate this sectarianism, seems to be a never ending story. Lets be Muslims and help each other grow and be better people.
  6. Some captiviating verses relating with our current state of affairs. May we keep on the path and die as Muslims. Amin. Verse from Suratul Al Imraan. Bismillahi Rahmaani Rahiim 99. Say: "O people of the Scripture (Jews and Christians)! Why do you stop those who have believed, from the Path of Allâh, seeking to make it seem crooked, while you (yourselves) are witnesses [to Muhammad as a Messenger of Allâh and Islâm (Allâh's Religion, i.e. to worship none but Him Alone)]? And Allâh is not unaware of what you do." 100. O you who believe! If you obey a group of those who were given the Scripture (Jews and Christians), they would (indeed) render you disbelievers after you have believed! 101. And how would you disbelieve, while unto you are recited the Verses of Allâh, and among you is His Messenger (Muhammad )? And whoever holds firmly to Allâh, (i.e. follows Islâm Allâh's Religion, and obeys all that Allâh has ordered, practically), then he is indeed guided to a Right Path. 102. O you who believe! Fear Allâh (by doing all that He has ordered and by abstaining from all that He has forbidden) as He should be feared. [Obey Him, be thankful to Him, and remember Him always], and die not except in a state of Islâm (as Muslims) with complete submission to Allâh. 103. 104. Let there arise out of you a group of people inviting to all that is good (Islâm), enjoining Al-Ma'rûf (i.e. Islâmic Monotheism and all that Islâm orders one to do) and forbidding Al-Munkar (polytheism and disbelief and all that Islâm has forbidden). And it is they who are the successful. 105. And be not as those who divided and differed among themselves after the clear proofs had come to them. It is they for whom there is an awful torment.
  7. Sahal, nice to see your back and havent lost your touch Refering to the topic, I think its fear which is causing them to think of taking such measures. It also shows how unknowlegable they are on Islam, the Quraan does dictate on the islamic way of life but most of the stipulations can only be fulfilled in a conducive environment where Islamic law is followed in its entirety. Islam may say kill unbeleivers but it also beleives in equality and accountability. Now you tell me will a muslim out of the blues attack a non beleiver? Nope, does he have the right to? no. Like any other religion, there are matters which are frowned upon and prohibited this is what it makes it unique. Question is by banning the Quraan, what can be acheived?? In my opinion, it will make people more interested to know why it was banned and want to own a copy and find out for themselves. Its a shame to see that the Quraan with its idea of tolerance and moral perfection wants to be banned while the bible with its few stories of immorality(most of the prophets in the bible are claimed to have commited incest, audhubillah) is left to stand on the bookshelf.

You should think of your long term plan, are you marrying for the sake of marriage or also in the sake of gaining Allahs grace and bringing up an Islamic family. Dont get me wrong but in the beginning we all say its for religion and stuff but when the children come, life struggles and everything parents forget their promise and let their children(one of the long term investment)grow up unattached to their culture and religious beleifs. And later you hear them complaining. Like any other seed, they need nurturing and care to become strong trees unbending to the winds. Another long term plan is the household atmosphere, got to think of it too.How do you want to run it. Opps I just realised the qn was on dating *I am short sighted anyway*. Its haram islamically. What is allowed is the Islamic courtship family get to know your intentions then the stone starts rolling slowly with the necessary chaperooning and advice.
  9. Now, think for a moment, when a baby is delivered, and we say its a girl, shouldnt we all rejoice? Yes, yes and yes again. Its a blessing. I dont have much experience as I havent my own yet but being around parents you will always see that the girls with their beautiful ways bring blessings to the household. Love, smiles and pleasure. When their young their beautiful all adorable,as they grow older become important pillars in the household and later move on to have their own households. If they are brought up to be loved and appreciated they never let down their parents always run to assist. There is always compassion in her tasks. I think this is our nature a trait Allah has provided a woman. A woman always needs a place to relate to and call home and has a tendency to sacrifice for others, it just comes automatically. You are a very good POLITICIAN! You had me laughing, good politicians? Dont beleive they exist. Well they have some good policies and some bad ones. What is important is to acknowledge the bad ones and make amends

  12. Salaam Katrina, To keep it short, the divorce is kept pending until the woman gives birth to her child. She can only be divorced after the birth of the child as now there is a new member in the family and the husband/wifes mind can change regarding divorce. While she is pregnant she lives in her household and maintainance is provided by her husband as usual. As for what happens in america and the somali mosques have no idea. Fiamanillah
  13. Salaam Uma Welcome to Sol. Hope you'll feel at home ASAP. Why NOMADS? Well thats what we are famous for "somalis" our pastoral culture, moving from one place to another to find that "perfect niche" a place to find pastor for the animals and well supplies for humans. 16. Opps thanks Pucca too. As you see its only when the user doesnt take care of the finer details when problems arise. And that concept applies to our everyday life. Whatever you use/do make sure you read the instructions and never be afraid to ask instead of acting out of impulse.
  17. I still dont know why Nasra your dragging this issue and stigmatising. So far working in the ER and the gynaecology clinic havent met a patient with a stuck tampon(I will term the person irresponsibleif they inserted it and knew that somethings wrong then waited till its time to take it out and then ask for assistance.) as for the Toxic shock syndrome so far its still a textbook case. Besbasso thanks for the explaination. Nasra, the smell is natural, what do you expect with the bleeding, its the shedding of the uterus layers which is being sloughed off slowly and with it it earns the smell and termed an impurity. Use a pad or tampon, doesnt change a thing, personal hygeine is important. So if its stuck there more than necessary it will smell terrible and if a pad hasnt been changed for a couple of hours it will smell to. So its upto the user. On a different note, it makes sense why men shouldnt cohabit with their wives, because of this impurity and also because of the smell he may dislike her.

Most of the girls were killed for trivial things. Mere suspicion is enough to kill a girl, which is a shame Wallahi. In many cases even the suspicion of a girl's aspiring to have a pre- or extra-marital contact with a man provides sufficient basis for her murder. In a case in 1996 in Sanliurfa, one of the major urban areas in Southeastern Turkey that is infamous for its honor killings, a girl was killed by her family for merely having gone strolling downtown with another girlfriend. In another case in 1997, again in Sanliurfa, a girl was murdered by her family for having made a phone request to the DJ of a local radio station to play a love song. source This practise is common in Diyarbakir where they still have the patriachal system. They kill the girls but leave the culprits, most of the girls had been raped by family members even when she tells the truth noone wants to beleive her. As she asked for it. Audhubillah. Those lucky vicitims who manage to run away from the abuse and go to the big cities, get hunted down and you can hear cases of the girl, now married with children killed by her family member because of the sin/suspicion in the past.

May have attacks but can be releived with medication problem is you will be on treatment for life .Im sorry to see that it brought a psychological effect on the brother and effected his life. May Allah give us health.Amin
  23. Kashafa Honour killings are not Islamic, and in all cases women, the weaker individual are killed. Even if you think the jamaican guy deserves it, noone has the right to do so. He or she can only be punished when 4 eye witnesses are available or if they confess to their sin. Kaput, they arent entitled to the death sentence and you also have to put into account they are single thus their punishment should(assuming being in an islamic state) 100 cannings. honor killing
  24. Asalaam aleykum , Sorry I couldnt read the whole thread, but I just wanted to share these views on this topic. I strongly disagree with those who claim FGM is Islamic or a cultural necessity. Sexual satisfaction is a right which every woman and man has given by Allah. Sexuality in Qur'an and Hadith The references to sexuality found in Qur'an and hadith will now be discussed. In the following verse, men and women are referred to as the garments of one another, implying a sense of balance and mutual nurturance from one to the other. It is lawful for you to go in unto your wives during the night preceding the (day's) fast: they are as a garment for you, and you are as a garment for them. God is aware that you would have deprived yourselves of this right, and so He has turned unto you in His mercy and removed this hardship from you. Now, then, you may lie with them skin to skin, and avail yourselves to that which God has ordained for you.(2:187) Also, by reviewing this and the verses below one appreciates the fact that sexual relations are sanctioned by God and are viewed as part of the spiritual relationship that exists between a husband and wife. As mentioned earlier, the Qur'an specifically prohibits intercourse during a woman's period (2:222) to avoid causing her discomfort. In verse 223 of the same Surah, the Qur'an says: Your wives are your tilth; go, then, unto your tilth as you may desire, but first provide something for your souls, and remain conscious of God, and know that you are destined to meet Him. And give glad tidings unto those who believe. Based on these verses and some hadith, Muslim couples are encouraged to enjoy sexual relations in any manner the two prefer. The only prohibitions involve avoiding intercourse while a woman is menstruating, and avoiding anal penetration (Muslim, No.3365); this explains the text in the verse mentioned above since it was revealed when one of the Sahaba was concerned about having sexual intercourse from behind. He was worried that he committed a sin. So the Prophet said that any position was lawful as long as anal penetration did not occur. Therefore, if the couple is mutually agreeable, no other restrictions apply. Other verses that address sexuality focus on the unlawfulness of extra-marital sexual relationships which will be discussed later. Sexual Rights of the Wife Several hadith also address the issue of sexual satisfaction with reference to the wife's rights in this matter. The Prophet advised Abdullah bin Amr bin Al-As (who spent all day fasting and all night in prayer) to fast sometimes and not at other times; to pray at night and to sleep at night. "Your body has a right over you, your eyes have a right over you and your wife has a right over you." (Bukhari, Vol.7, No. 127) The wife's rights include a right to companionship from her husband and fulfillment of her sexual needs. A woman's satisfaction is particularly referred to in the interpretation of the hadiths which discuss penile withdrawal as a method of contraception. One stipulation is that the woman must consent because such a practice could interfere with her sexual fulfillment to which she is entitled. Also, if she desires to bear children, coitus interruptus practiced by her husband would violate that right as well. This viewpoint is based on a hadith transmitted by Umar ibn-al-Khattab who said that the Prophet forbade the practice of coitus interruptus with a woman except with her permission This reference is found in Sex and Society in Islam, by B. F. Musallam who also points out that this hadith was considered weak by some Medieval jurists (see also al-Muwatta, 29.34, No. 100). Nevertheless, the position regarding the woman's right to orgasm was developed over time by several Muslim jurists during the same period (Busallam, Chapter 2 and footnotes). Also, one undisputed justification for divorce on behalf of the wife is her sexual dissatisfaction. The most explicit discussions of sexual relations with respect to fulfilling the wife's needs are found in the Book on the Etiquette of Marriage, part of Abu Hamid Al-Ghazali's larger work, Revival of the Religious Sciences (Ihya Ulum al-Din), written in the eleventh century. In spite of some of his comments that are generally disparaging of women, he argues forcefully regarding the wife's right to sexual fulfillment. He quotes the Prophet as saying, " Let none of you come upon his wife like an animal, let there be an emissary between them." When asked what is the emissary, he replied, "The kiss and sweet words." In another hadith, the Prophet points out that one of the deficiencies of a man is that "he should approach his wife and have sexual contact with her before exchanging words and caresses, consequently, he sleeps with her and fulfills his needs (i.e. orgasm) before she fulfills hers." Al-Ghazali further elaborates on the importance of a woman achieving orgasm by stating, "Congruence in attaining a climax is more gratifying to her because the man is not preoccupied with his own pleasure, but rather with hers..." Mutual Satisfaction The example of the Prophet clearly reveals that he and his wives enjoyed physical affection not necessarily related to intercourse thus reflecting an attitude of loving behavior in a variety of circumstances. Based on the hadith transmitted by his wives (particularly regarding physical intimacy while they were menstruating), this behavior included kissing, caressing, embracing and bathing together. (Sunan Abu Dawud, Nos. 267-273, 2376-2379; Muslim, Nos. 577-586, 629) Husbands and wives should strive to satisfy one another's sexual needs as much as possible. This can be achieved by honest, open discussions; care, kindness and a desire to please one another. Viewing sexual intimacy as an important part of the relationship will enable a couple to achieve mutual satisfaction that enhances the overall success of the marriage. Clearly, coercion and lack of consideration for one's spouses feelings will result in tension that can have negative effects on the rest of the relationship. Unfortunately, if a Muslim woman is raised to abhor and fear any matters related to sex, then in most instances of sexual contact she would be a passive and perhaps unwilling participant, and definitely not one who derives pleasure from sex. Also, the general view of sex as a shameful and dirty act contributes to inhibitions of both men and women, preventing them from enjoying an act sanctioned by God. Another thing is FGM doesnt or shouldnt be a factor to cause chastity in females. We all know that its the Islamic ruling of fear of Allah which should make our hearts strong enough to protect our private parts. Female Genital Mutilation Since female genital mutilation (FGM , known also as female circumcision). is a custom among some Muslims, the Islamic position must be made clear. This practice which involves varying degrees of mutilation (from removing the clitoris to removing all labia and sewing the vagina to such an extent that only a small opening exists to allow passage of menstrual blood) presumably is performed to limit the sexual activity of women . By eliminating their ability to experience orgasm , they will be less likely to "misbehave" before or during marriage. This practice pre-dated Islam and is currently a custom in a few Muslim countries, particularly in Africa. Only one hadith exists which specifically addresses FGM. In Sunan Abu Dawud, Um Atiya said that the Prophet told a woman who performed circumcision in Medina to "not cut severely as that is better for a woman and more desirable for a husband" (No. 5251). According to Abu Dawud, this is a weak hadith (mursal). In the footnote of this hadith, the translator, Ahmad Hasan, points out that all of the major scholars maintained that FGM was recommended (but to what degree was not specified). A review of the previous discussion of sexuality, exposes the unIslamic nature of this practice. Sexual responsibility in terms of chastity and fidelity is required of both men and women. As mentioned earlier, there is no reason women need physical evidence of virginity and men do not. Each individual is responsible for her/his actions and is accountable to God. A woman is expected to follow the guidelines of Islam because she is capable and does not need to be physically impaired to do so. Also, the importance of sexual satisfaction and pleasure is applicable to both men and women; there is no way a woman who has been mutilated can feel pleasure during sexual relations. Also, the same hadiths mentioned above which advise against cosmetic surgery would further argue against FGM. Because this act is so contrary to Islamic principles, it must be outlawed and resisted by all Muslims, particularly those in positions of influence who can impact the behavior of large communities where this custom is practiced. Muslim leadership must take a strong, unapologetic stand to convince the community of Muslims that FGM is totally unIslamic, with the hopes of eliminating it altogether, at least among Muslim groups that continue to practice FGM. AND Although there is no reference to circumcision at all in the Qur'an, there is a well-established tradition of male circumcision in Islam as a "sunnah" act (i.e., one following the practice of the Prophet and his companions). There is no mandate at all for female circumcision, however. Although female circumcision is not mandated, one tradition of disputed authenticity permits (but does not encourage) the removal of a minuscule segment of skin from the female prepuce, provided no harm is done. Permitting such a ritual constitutes an act of tolerance by Islamic law for pre-Islamic practices, and may be overruled by the Islamic prohibition against harmful acts. Consider, for example, that Islamic law protects a woman's right to sexual enjoyment, as demonstrated by the fact that a woman has the right to divorce on the grounds that her husband does not provide sexual satisfaction. It follows that Islamic law prohibits clitorodectomy (partial or complete) or infibulation, or any genital mutilation which impairs the woman's ability to enjoy sexual relations. Its a cowards cry if you ask me, to have your daughter anatomically hindered instead of enlightening her with the religious knowledge and basic commonsense regarding sexuality. And with FGM we cannot forget the psychological, physical disability a woman attains. Nobody knows how much psychologically they suffer but we do know the implications the wound has on the womans health. The physical and psychological effects of female genital mutilation Physical effects The effects of genital mutilation can lead to death. At the time the mutilation is carried out, pain, shock, haemorrhage and damage to the organs surrounding the clitoris and labia can occur. Afterwards urine may be retained and serious infection develop. Use of the same instrument on several girls without sterilization can cause the spread of HIV. More commonly, the chronic infections, intermittent bleeding, abscesses and small benign tumours of the nerve which can result from clitoridectomy and excision cause discomfort and extreme pain. Infibulation can have even more serious long-term effects: chronic urinary tract infections, stones in the bladder and urethra, kidney damage, reproductive tract infections resulting from obstructed menstrual flow, pelvic infections, infertility, excessive scar tissue, keloids (raised, irregularly shaped, progressively enlarging scars) and dermoid cysts. First sexual intercourse can only take place after gradual and painful dilation of the opening left after mutilation. In some cases, cutting is necessary before intercourse can take place. In one study carried out in Sudan, 15% of women interviewed reported that cutting was necessary before penetration could be achieved.1 Some new wives are seriously damaged by unskilful cutting carried out by their husbands. A possible additional problem resulting from all types of female genital mutilation is that lasting damage to the genital area can increase the risk of HIV transmission during intercourse. During childbirth, existing scar tissue on excised women may tear. Infibulated women, whose genitals have been tightly closed, have to be cut to allow the baby to emerge. If no attendant is present to do this, perineal tears or obstructed labour can occur. After giving birth, women are often reinfibulated to make them "tight" for their husbands. The constant cutting and restitching of a women's genitals with each birth can result in tough scar tissue in the genital area. The secrecy surrounding FGM, and the protection of those who carry it out, make collecting data about complications resulting from mutilation difficult. When problems do occur these are rarely attributed to the person who performed the mutilation. They are more likely to be blamed on the girl's alleged "promiscuity" or the fact that sacrifices or rituals were not carried out properly by the parents. Most information is collected retrospectively, often a long time after the event. This means that one has to rely on the accuracy of the woman's memory, her own assessment of the severity of any resulting complications, and her perception of whether any health problems were associated with mutilation. Some data on the short and long-term medical effects of FGM, including those associated with pregnancy, have been collected in hospital or clinic-based studies, and this has been useful in acquiring a knowledge of the range of health problems that can result. However, the incidence of these problems, and of deaths as a result of mutilation, cannot be reliably estimated. Supporters of the practice claim that major complications and problems are rare, while opponents of the practice claim that they are frequent Effects on sexuality Genital mutilation can make first intercourse an ordeal for women. It can be extremely painful, and even dangerous, if the woman has to be cut open; for some women, intercourse remains painful. Even where this is not the case, the importance of the clitoris in experiencing sexual pleasure and orgasm suggests that mutilation involving partial or complete clitoridectomy would adversely affect sexual fulfilment. Clinical considerations and the majority of studies on women's enjoyment of sex suggest that genital mutilation does impair a women's enjoyment. However, one study found that 90% of the infibulated women interviewed reported experiencing orgasm.2 The mechanisms involved in sexual enjoyment and orgasm are still not fully understood, but it is thought that compensatory processes, some of them psychological, may mitigate some of the effects of removal of the clitoris and other sensitive parts of the genitals. As for abortion, it is only halal when a mothers life is in danger and if the fetus is less than 120 days. And it isnt an easy thing either like FGM with it it carries psychological trauma. As for the doctor who performs it he/she has to pay fidia if he/she is a Muslim as its still like killing a soul. Abortion Like the other monotheistic religions, Islam prohibits the taking of the life of another human being without just cause (i.e. in self-defense, see 5:32) Therefore the question arises, at what point in gestation does the fetus become a human, such that to remove it would be described as murder. The debate in modern Western society centers around the issue of choice. Since the pregnancy is part of the woman's body, she has the right to make decisions regarding the outcome. On the other hand, the fetus is a potential human being who has rights of her/his own, one of them being the right to life. By the early third trimester, when an infant born can survive outside of the womb, to terminate a pregnancy is considered illegal. Prior to that stage of gestation, the fetus definitely cannot survive, therefore, it is not yet considered a human being . Others believe that the fetus's status as a human begins at conception. The Qur'an describes the stages of embryonic development (22:4, 23:12-14) and states that at a certain point during development, the fetus is given a soul. According to the jurists and their interpretation of a related hadith, the ensoulment occurs somewhere between 40 and 120 days of gestation (Musallam, p.53-4). Based on these references all of the major jurists agreed that the fetus did not become endowed with a human spirit until at least 40 days of gestation had occurred. Some felt that this did not occur until 120 days of gestation. In reviewing historical documents of Medieval Islamic jurists, Musallam argues that abortion was considered a form of birth control which was essentially allowed by all of the major juristic positions (p.69). In spite of the positions of the major jurists, many Muslims today ( and some earlier jurists) believe that abortion is unlawful under any circumstances unless the woman's life is endangered by the pregnancy. Modern technology (not available to early jurists) enables the physician to see the beating heart of a 21 day old embryo; whether the embryo qualifies as a person is really only known by God. Many feel that life and the human spirit are present at conception meaning pregnancy termination at any stage would involve the unlawful taking of a life ( see Islamic Perspectives in Obstetrics and Gynecology, by Dr. Hassan Hathout, pp. 61-78 ). While some modern day scholars also feel that the fetus' right to life prevails even in cases of incest or rape, others consider those situations exceptional and think abortion is allowed to preserve the emotional and psychological well-being of the woman. As mentioned above, some Muslim scholars have interpreted the Qur'an and Hadith as explaining when the fetus becomes a human being (between 40 and 120 days of gestation) therefore, termination would be lawful during that time. The appropriate circumstances for termination would then be considered. Today, women often terminate pregnancy because they are sexually active and not yet married; pregnancy in those circumstances is undesirable for many reasons. If individuals avoid extramarital sex, they would not be faced with making such a difficult decision. For married couples, unwanted pregnancy most often occurs as a result of contraception failure. According to the jurists cited in Musallam, (namely Hanafi, Shafi'i) abortion is permissible if the parents fear hardship, physical, psychological or other. Economic justification is generally not considered sufficient since the Qur'an says "Do not kill your children for fear of want."(6:151) even though this verse is referring to living children. Also, if a woman is nursing a young infant (who relies solely on breast milk for sustenance) and she becomes pregnant, she can terminate the pregnancy in the interest of her first child as pregnancy decreases milk production and would thus be harmful to her baby (Qardawi, p201-202). As for the case, girl impregnated by the jamaican boy. First thing to do is she has no right to terminate her pregnancy. She did the act knowingly and they are equally in trouble. Two, the family should find the male member and if he is willing marry her off to him. End of story. Articles I have quoted from relating to this topic. FGM and Islam Islam and FGM sexuality Islamic perception of sexuality Physical and psychological effects of FGM Back to the qn: FGM Vs Abortion. Both of them are evil. FGM islamically isnt haram(sacred law) neither is Abortion if the shariah ruling is followed. But still both are frowned on and something to be avoided.Commonsense and matter of necesity should be applied ot Abortion as for FGM avoidance and condemnation should be in order. NB: All the wellwishers Jazkhallah kheir, May Allah keep you and your loved ones safe too.
  25. Asalaam aleykum, Today from 9am we have been shaken by an earthquake (5.7 RS some say 5.9) and throughout the day we experienced tremors.Actually the tremors had started since wednesday. As I was onduty in the Pediatry ER we suddenly had an influx of patients with minor bruises, fear (conversions, panic attacks) and patients from the dayclinics. A state of panic and fear was felt the day clinics were all closed, schools were officially closed for 2 days. People some of them doctors ran for their lives, leaving their patients behind. Patients in the wards had to be moved to safer areas others were discharged or transfered to hospitals out of town. Everyone was on the run. As for the ER we had an influx of helpers residents, interns showed up to give a hand. Was a long day, as for those who knew Allah they shrugged and said Alhamdullilah to be alive. The other group some of them out of fear left the hospital with fear in their eyes ( death/ tragedy is inevitable). With every recurring tremor people running out of the ER doors then coming back in.(They started getting on my nerve) As the classes were cancelled and library closed all the students sat in groups in the open areas. Some listening to live music, singing and clapping while the tremors occured. Others eat and smoked like we werent in Ramadhaan. It was like a day of celebration. Another group of students just sat silently under their breath cursing and praying saying this is but a punishment from Allah as people dont respect Ramadhaan nor fear Allahs wrath. Me, I had the Surah Zilzalah passing through my mind. Busy with the scutwork around 4pm the ER came back to normal. And had the chance to chitchat with others. Its speculated a 7 RS earthquake is going to hit us. Allah knows better. Im home now feel safe, got my emergency bags packed just in case if I will need to sleep in the street. Apart from that know that what destined shall be, Allah knows better. But its been a day to remember that we are just passing through this world. So far dont know how many casualities we had. Havent seen the news yet to Him we will return. Advice: Live today as there is no tomorrow before the day comes when our very actions will be placed infront of us and putting us to fault.
