  4. Salaam, My hands gave been full to the brim recently and in he process been somewhat absent minded. I do possess one of the books(Crisis in Muslim Education) you mentioned S.O.S and was an eye opener. Personally I still prefer this topic to be discussed more by people working in the education field. I have worked in the field as a volunteer(Taught A- level Islamic Knowledge and primary level computer studies and occassionally science subjects for approx 6-8months in Tz)but it will be untruthful to say I fully comprehend or understand the tribulations/failure of the educators or the system as most of the time the sylabbuses are already set to fail or lack of organisation, resources hinder the advancement.
  5. Jazkhallah kheir Kashafa, Indeed a good book and an account of a honourable man of great talent. Mashallah I admire his authority, courage, determination and being a man of action than words. May Allah have mercy on his soul and reward him Jannah. And may Allah bless the currently living Ummah with the zeal to uplift the banner of Islam, honourably like the Ummah before us. Amin

  9. Lol Alle ubaahne which group are you talking about? So far I know I belong only to one group> My own . I fear groupings(learnt some unforgettable lessons) as every group claims to be superior over the other and we all know only 1 group will succeed. Which one will it be? Yours, mine, theirs?? In short as our Prophet SAW said those who stick to the Quraan and Sunnah. So guess we have to work on that collectively than claim to belong to groups at the end we all are one Ummah and have a common goal. Fiamanillah Ustadh.
  10. Waleikum salaam Salafi Brother, I am aware of Sheikh Albani a scholar who lived in our century(born and died in the 19th century May Allah have mercy on him). He compiled alot of hadith which some he termed weak (and he also has a book on them if my memory serves me right). I also know he wrote the book but so far never got my hands on it except for the few excerpts here and there mentioning the title or asserting that the named ahadith is also reported in Irfaa al Ghaleel. Im am a fan of Sahih Bukhari,Muslim (still havent read much on Abu Dawud or Maliki) as I find they have collections which can be crosschecked and you find them complimenting each other. Remember the hadith were collected by the scholars they have to taken with precaution and double checked. It is bound to have Err only the Quran is unique(and with the exception of Hadith Sharif). Thats why we have cases of weak hadith or fabricated ones. May Allah guide us and increase us in knowledge to search for the truth. Amin Fiamanillah.
  11. Salafi Brother, so far I havent come across such a hadith in saheeh Bukhari. And couldnt find an english copy of Irwaa al Gaheel. And to be honest Irwaa al Gaheel is foreign to me. Please bear with me, got to do some reading for myself as Im not yet convinced. Fiamanillah
  12. Audhubillah  but I had a hard laugh. I hate to be the people who came up with this prank smearing Al Azhars name and making it the laughing stock .. Castro Brother next time please check your sources well. People tend to take Al Azhars fatwas seriously though I do tend to differ at times. Use your common sense(Have the Quran and Hadith to guide you to reach there) and remember Islam is the moderate way. Ive still got alot to learn from the Holy Book and Hadiths than to follow fatwas which at times are culturally biased. (This is my opinion, we may differ). Also observed we are all lovey dovey over Haba sowda. Interesting Something which may interest you.benefits of blackseed/kalonji/ xaba sowda Modesty, sis you are right Diabetes Mellitus type 2 can be controlled when people lose weight. And with follow up they can be termed cured. But I still think there is a possibility if these people go back to their old ways they may have a rebound bout of DM. Just a speculation. Guess Ive got to do some searching. And according to the xaba sowda link it is claimed that DM is cured. Fiamanillah.
  13. Inallilahi wa inaillahi rajiun. I was also angry with the way that they still cant stop these stampedes as it is a foreseeable disaster. Apart from death, people can lose a limb, eye due to these inhumane acts of force. The saudi authorities now have come up with a new plan. Hope it will be implemented and enforced before next Hajj. Simple ideas which everyone can think off, controling the human traficking and have more exits n entry points. Its all feasible needs a little extra organisation and planning. I also think, they need to work on their signs atleast 6 languages should be written on them. measures to prevent stampedes
  14. Im sorry but these topics are getting the worst of me now. Love, this jaceyl that, romantic this, that. What about Love of Allah??? What about love of the Prophet SAW? All these tales of love have no worth if you cant love your Illah and prove it. As the Prophet SAW said my followerss will be successful if they love me over their fathers and children(something of that lines). He also said poetry should be minimised/shunned as its all lies as it tends to over praise people. Im not saying not to recite poetry but lets just be realistic. Somali women dont need to be praised by all, she knows her worth, knows her duty on earth its her husbands job to make her feel special, her childs to make her feel appreciated and loved and the community to accept her assistance. Fiamanillah Love you all for the sake of Allah.

  16. Asalaam aleykum, Samahani nimechukua wakati mrefu mpaka kujibu nasaha na dua zenu. Ndugu zanguni amin kwa dua zenu, Mwenyezi Mungu atuzidishie sote. Amin Originally posted by nabadshe: hope u'll not mind giving us some important profile on swahili language history, how it came to being? and how big areas it covers in africa?. Cause i heard that its the most popular language in Africa and actually was once suggested to be official african language, correct me if am wrong. Hope this will help. BRIEF HISTORY OF THE SWAHILI LANGUAGE (by Hassan O. Ali; revised by Abdurahman Juma) The Swahili language, is basically of Bantu (African) origin. It has borrowed words from other languages such as Arabic probably as a result of the Swahili people using the Quran written in Arabic for spiritual guidance as Muslims. As regards the formation of the Swahili culture and language, some scholars attribute these phenomena to the intercourse of African and Asiatic people on the coast of East Africa. The word "Swahili" was used by early Arab visitors to the coast and it means "the coast". Ultimately it came to be applied to the people and the language. Regarding the history of the Swahili language, the older view linked to the colonial time asserts that the Swahili language originates from Arabs and Persians who moved to the East African coast. Given the fact that only the vocabulary can be associated with these groups but the syntax or grammar of the language is Bantu, this argument has been almost forgotten. It is well known that any language that has to grow and expand its territories ought to absorb some vocabulary from other languages in its way. A suggestion has been made that Swahili is an old language. The earliest known document recounting the past situation on the East African coast written in the 2nd century AD (in Greek language by anonymous author at Alexandria in Egypt and it is called the Periplus of Erythrean Sea) says that merchants visiting the East African coast at that time from Southern Arabia, used to speak with the natives in their local language and they intermarried with them. Those that suggest that Swahili is an old language point to this early source for the possible antiquity of the Swahili language. It is an undeniable truth that Arab and Persian cultures had greatest influence on the Swahili culture and the Swahili language. To demonstrate the contribution of each culture into the Swahili language, take an example of the numbers as they are spoken in Swahili. "moja" = one, "mbili" = two, "tatu" = three, "nne" = four, "tano" = five, "nane" = eight, "kumi" = ten, are all of Bantu origin. On the other hand there is "sita" = six, "saba" = seven and "tisa" = nine, that are borrowed from Arabic. The Swahili words, "chai" = tea, "achari" = pickle, "serikali" = government, "diwani" = councillor, "sheha" = village councillor, are some of the words borrowed from Persian bearing testimony to the older connections with Persian merchants. The Swahili language also absorbed words from the Portuguese who controlled the Swahili coastal towns (c. 1500-1700AD). Some of the words that the Swahili language absorbed from the Portuguese include "leso" (handkerchief), "meza" (table), "gereza" (prison), "pesa" ('peso', money), etc. Swahili bull-fighting, still popular on the Pemba island, is also a Portuguese legacy from that period. The Swahili language also borrowed some words from languages of the later colonial powers on the East African coast - English (British) and German. Swahilized English words include "baiskeli" (bicycle), "basi" (bus), "penseli" (pencil), "mashine" (machine), "koti" (coat), etc. The Swahilized German words include "shule" for school and "hela" for a German coin. For centuries, Swahili remained as the language for the people of the East African coast. Long-time interactions with other people bordering the Indian Ocean spread the Swahili language to distant places such as on the islands of Comoro and Madagascar and even far beyond to South Africa, Oman and United Arab Emirates. Trade and migration from the Swahili coast during the nineteenth-century helped spread the language to the interior of particularly Tanzania. It also reached Uganda, Rwanda, Burundi, Congo, Central African Rebublic, and Mozambique. Christian missionaries learnt Swahili as the language of communication to spread the Gospel in Eastern Africa. So, the missionaries also helped to spread the language. As a matter of fact the first Swahili-English dictionary was prepared by a missionary. During the colonial time, Swahili was used for communication with the local inhabitants. Hence the colonial administrators pioneered the effort of standardizing the Swahili language. Zanzibar was the epicenter of culture and commerce, therefore colonial administrators selected the dialect of the Zanzibar (Unguja) town as the standard Swahili. The Unguja dialect (Kiunguja) was then used for all formal communication such as in schools, in mass media (newspapers and radio), in books and other publications. Now Swahili is spoken in many countries of Eastern Africa. For Tanzania, deliberate efforts were made by the independent nation to promote the language (thanks to the efforts of the former head of state, Julius K. Nyerere). Tanzania's special relations with countries of southern Africa was the chief reason behind the spread of Swahili to Zambia, Malawi, South Africa, and other neighbouring countries to the south. Swahili is the national as well as the official language in Tanzania - almost all Tanzanians speak Swahili proficiently and are unified by it. In Kenya and Uganda, it is the national language, but official correspondence is still conducted in English. Thus, Swahili is the most widely spoken language of eastern Africa and many world institutions have responded to its diaspora. It is one of the languages that feature in some world radio stations such as, the BBC, Radio Cairo (Egypt), the Voice of America (U.S.A.), Radio Deutschewelle (Germany), Radio Moscow International (Russia), Radio Japan International, Radio China International, Radio Sudan, and Radio South Africa. The Swahili language is also making its presence in the art world - in songs, theatres, movies and television programs. For example, the lyrics for the song titled "Liberian girl" by Michael Jackson has Swahili phrases: "Nakupenda pia, nakutaka pia, mpenzi we!" (I love you, and I want you, my dear!). The well- celebrated Disney movie, "The Lion King" features several Swahili words, for example "simba" (lion), "rafiki" (friend), as the names of the characters. The Swahili phrase "hakuna matata" (No troubles or no problems) was also used in that movie. The promotion of the Swahili language is not only in its use but also deliberate efforts are made throughout the world to include it in education curriculum for higher institutions of learning. It is taught in many parts of the world.
  17. S.O.S brother, Jazkallah kheir for the enlightening articles. Hope there is more too come as this is one of the fundamental topics in Islam. Fiamanillah Wol
  18. Asalaam aleykum, Jazkhallah kheir Katrina, for this interesting read.So far, it is the best article I have read on Lady Hajar. Now ask yourself. If any human being needs to be identified, whom would you consider the foremost as far as founding of Makkah as a city?* Is there any other civilization, or even a city of this stature, that has been brought about by such primary contribution and sacrifice of a woman? How ironical, unfortunate, insulting and utterly unacceptable that the city that came into existence through the sacrifice and struggle of a lone woman now does not allow a woman to drive a car by herself. Nor does it allow a woman to travel to hajj by herself, even though the Prophet Muhammad himself had the vision that woman would travel someday alone to perform hajj and indeed, the vision did materialize. (Musnad of Imam Ahmad ibn Hanbal, Vol. 4, #19397, 19400; Also Sahih al-Bukhari: Vol. 4, #793) I wonder too. If the readers have not read already, I invite them to read the Hadith containing details of her story in Sahih al-Bukhari (Vol. 4, #583, Book of Ambiya or Prophets). This is one of my favorite stories I enjoy reading. I admire her perseverance she was true to her cause, a mother in distress trying to tend to her childs needs. And in her honour all pilgrims keep to the tradition she started. The hadith:Sahih Bukhari Volume 4, Book 55, Number 583, Narrated Ibn Abbas: The first lady to use a girdle was the mother of Ishmael. She used a girdle so that she might hide her tracks from Sarah. Abraham brought her and her son Ishmael while she was suckling him, to a place near the Ka'ba under a tree on the spot of Zam-zam, at the highest place in the mosque. During those days there was nobody in Mecca, nor was there any water So he made them sit over there and placed near them a leather bag containing some dates, and a small water-skin containing some water, and set out homeward. Ishmael's mother followed him saying, "O Abraham! Where are you going, leaving us in this valley where there is no person whose company we may enjoy, nor is there anything (to enjoy)?" She repeated that to him many times, but he did not look back at her Then she asked him, "Has Allah ordered you to do so?" He said, "Yes." She said, "Then He will not neglect us," and returned while Abraham proceeded onwards, and on reaching the Thaniya where they could not see him, he faced the Ka'ba, and raising both hands, invoked Allah saying the following prayers: 'O our Lord! I have made some of my offspring dwell in a valley without cultivation, by Your Sacred House (Kaba at Mecca) in order, O our Lord, that they may offer prayer perfectly. So fill some hearts among men with love towards them, and (O Allah) provide them with fruits, so that they may give thanks.' (14.37) Ishmael's mother went on suckling Ishmael and drinking from the water (she had). When the water in the water-skin had all been used up, she became thirsty and her child also became thirsty. She started looking at him (i.e. Ishmael) tossing in agony; She left him, for she could not endure looking at him, and found that the mountain of Safa was the nearest mountain to her on that land. She stood on it and started looking at the valley keenly so that she might see somebody, but she could not see anybody. Then she descended from Safa and when she reached the valley, she tucked up her robe and ran in the valley like a person in distress and trouble, till she crossed the valley and reached the Marwa mountain where she stood and started looking, expecting to see somebody, but she could not see anybody. She repeated that (running between Safa and Marwa) seven times." The Prophet said, "This is the source of the tradition of the walking of people between them (i.e. Safa and Marwa). When she reached the Marwa (for the last time) she heard a voice and she asked herself to be quiet and listened attentively. She heard the voice again and said, 'O, (whoever you may be)! You have made me hear your voice; have you got something to help me?" And behold! She saw an angel at the place of Zam-zam, digging the earth with his heel (or his wing), till water flowed from that place. She started to make something like a basin around it, using her hand in this way, and started filling her water-skin with water with her hands, and the water was flowing out after she had scooped some of it." The Prophet added, "May Allah bestow Mercy on Ishmael's mother! Had she let the Zam-zam (flow without trying to control it) (or had she not scooped from that water) (to fill her water-skin), Zam-zam would have been a stream flowing on the surface of the earth." The Prophet further added, "Then she drank (water) and suckled her child. The angel said to her, 'Don't be afraid of being neglected, for this is the House of Allah which will be built by this boy and his father, and Allah never neglects His people.' The House (i.e. Kaba) at that time was on a high place resembling a hillock, and when torrents came, they flowed to its right and left. She lived in that way till some people from the tribe of Jurhum or a family from Jurhum passed by her and her child, as they (i.e. the Jurhum people) were coming through the way of Kada'. They landed in the lower part of Mecca where they saw a bird that had the habit of flying around water and not leaving it. They said, 'This bird must be flying around water, though we know that there is no water in this valley.' They sent one or two messengers who discovered the source of water, and returned to inform them of the water. So, they all came (towards the water)." The Prophet added, "Ishmael's mother was sitting near the water. They asked her, 'Do you allow us to stay with you?" She replied, 'Yes, but you will have no right to possess the water.' They agreed to that." The Prophet further said, "Ishmael's mother was pleased with the whole situation as she used to love to enjoy the company of the people. So, they settled there, and later on they sent for their families who came and settled with them so that some families became permanent residents there. The child (i.e. Ishmael) grew up and learnt Arabic from them and (his virtues) caused them to love and admire him as he grew up, and when he reached the age of puberty they made him marry a woman from amongst them. After Ishmael's mother had died, Abraham came after Ishmael's marriage in order to see his family that he had left before, but he did not find Ishmael there. When he asked Ishmael's wife about him, she replied, 'He has gone in search of our livelihood.' Then he asked her about their way of living and their condition, and she replied, 'We are living in misery; we are living in hardship and destitution,' complaining to him. He said, 'When your husband returns, convey my salutation to him and tell him to change the threshold of the gate (of his house).' When Ishmael came, he seemed to have felt something unusual, so he asked his wife, 'Has anyone visited you?' She replied, 'Yes, an old man of so-and-so description came and asked me about you and I informed him, and he asked about our state of living, and I told him that we were living in a hardship and poverty.' On that Ishmael said, 'Did he advise you anything?' She replied, 'Yes, he told me to convey his salutation to you and to tell you to change the threshold of your gate.' Ishmael said, 'It was my father, and he has ordered me to divorce you. Go back to your family.' So, Ishmael divorced her and married another woman from amongst them (i.e. Jurhum). Then Abraham stayed away from them for a period as long as Allah wished and called on them again but did not find Ishmael. So he came to Ishmael's wife and asked her about Ishmael. She said, 'He has gone in search of our livelihood.' Abraham asked her, 'How are you getting on?' asking her about their sustenance and living. She replied, 'We are prosperous and well-off (i.e. we have everything in abundance).' Then she thanked Allah' Abraham said, 'What kind of food do you eat?' She said. 'Meat.' He said, 'What do you drink?' She said, 'Water." He said, "O Allah! Bless their meat and water." The Prophet added, "At that time they did not have grain, and if they had grain, he would have also invoked Allah to bless it." The Prophet added, "If somebody has only these two things as his sustenance, his health and disposition will be badly affected, unless he lives in Mecca." The Prophet added," Then Abraham said Ishmael's wife, "When your husband comes, give my regards to him and tell him that he should keep firm the threshold of his gate.' When Ishmael came back, he asked his wife, 'Did anyone call on you?' She replied, 'Yes, a good-looking old man came to me,' so she praised him and added. 'He asked about you, and I informed him, and he asked about our livelihood and I told him that we were in a good condition.' Ishmael asked her, 'Did he give you any piece of advice?' She said, 'Yes, he told me to give his regards to you and ordered that you should keep firm the threshold of your gate.' On that Ishmael said, 'It was my father, and you are the threshold (of the gate). He has ordered me to keep you with me.' Then Abraham stayed away from them for a period as long as Allah wished, and called on them afterwards. He saw Ishmael under a tree near Zamzam, sharpening his arrows. When he saw Abraham, he rose up to welcome him (and they greeted each other as a father does with his son or a son does with his father). Abraham said, 'O Ishmael! Allah has given me an order.' Ishmael said, 'Do what your Lord has ordered you to do.' Abraham asked, 'Will you help me?' Ishmael said, 'I will help you.' Abraham said, Allah has ordered me to build a house here,' pointing to a hillock higher than the land surrounding it." The Prophet added, "Then they raised the foundations of the House (i.e. the Ka'ba). Ishmael brought the stones and Abraham was building, and when the walls became high, Ishmael brought this stone and put it for Abraham who stood over it and carried on building, while Ishmael was handing him the stones, and both of them were saying, 'O our Lord! Accept (this service) from us, Verily, You are the All-Hearing, the All-Knowing.' The Prophet added, "Then both of them went on building and going round the Ka'ba saying: O our Lord ! Accept (this service) from us, Verily, You are the All-Hearing, the All-Knowing." (2.127)
  19. Waaleykum Salam, Brother S.O.S, Inshallah we have few days remaining to celebrating the Islamic "our own" Calender year with all the faithful around the globe. The verses you quoted from Al Imran depict Allahs greatness and magnitude of His Power and Knowledge. Also mentioned is the continuation of the message of Islam through the Holy Books, where it came from and where it ended. All I can say they are verses which make you reflect and feel humble. Jazkahallah kheir for the tilawat. Fiamanillah, Wol
  20. Asalaam aleykum, Jazkallah kheir Ukti for the reminder of these sacred days ahead of us. Inshallah may Allah give us the capability to seek the favours of these days. The hadiths so far I have come across regarding fasting during the week state the Prophet SAW perfered fasting on mondays and thursdays and except for fardh saum on Fridays he shunned from fasting on that day as its considered an Islamic holiday. 21. My tilawaat on the 1st of January. Happy new calender year. In the name of Allah, the Compassionate, the Merciful. AlBaqarah the cow: verse:252-258,Yusuf Ali translation. These are the Signs of Allah: we rehearse them to thee in truth: verily Thou art one of the messengers. Those messengers We endowed with gifts, some above others: To one of them Allah spoke; others He raised to degrees (of honour); to Jesus the son of Mary We gave clear (Signs), and strengthened him with the holy spirit. If Allah had so willed, succeeding generations would not have fought among each other, after clear (Signs) had come to them, but they (chose) to wrangle, some believing and others rejecting. If Allah had so willed, they would not have fought each other; but Allah Fulfilleth His plan. O ye who believe! Spend out of (the bounties) We have provided for you, before the Day comes when no bargaining (Will avail), nor friendship nor intercession. Those who reject Faith they are the wrong-doers. Allah! There is no god but He,-the Living, the Self-subsisting, Eternal. No slumber can seize Him nor sleep. His are all things in the heavens and on earth. Who is there can intercede in His presence except as He permitteth? He knoweth what (appeareth to His creatures as) before or after or behind them. Nor shall they compass aught of His knowledge except as He willeth. His Throne doth extend over the heavens and the earth, and He feeleth no fatigue in guarding and preserving them for He is the Most High, the Supreme (in glory). Let there be no compulsion in religion: Truth stands out clear from Error: whoever rejects evil and believes in Allah hath grasped the most trustworthy hand-hold, that never breaks. And Allah heareth and knoweth all things. Allah is the Protector of those who have faith: from the depths of darkness He will lead them forth into light. Of those who reject faith the patrons are the evil ones: from light they will lead them forth into the depths of darkness. They will be companions of the fire, to dwell therein (For ever). Hast thou not Turned thy vision to one who disputed with Abraham About his Lord, because Allah had granted him power? Abraham said: "My Lord is He Who Giveth life and death." He said: "I give life and death". Said Abraham: "But it is Allah that causeth the sun to rise from the east: Do thou then cause him to rise from the West." Thus was he confounded who (in arrogance) rejected faith. Nor doth Allah Give guidance to a people unjust.
  22. mohasuda, Jazakallah kheir for the encouraging words. Being a new graduate myself it has been a hard time accepting the new status. You get all worked up when youre doing your undergraduate and when its over you find out life isnt as you thought it was supposed to be. Still got more mountains to climb and newer responsibilities to face. And it gets even tougher when you see how events move slowly not as you planned. Patience was / is the only vital ingredient to keep a person sane and accepting what Allah has planned. Thanks again and wish all the best to the new grads and the "about to" graduate nomads.

Out of curiosity, does the "aa" signify a different meaning? well, i dont even know what danyeeer means. Bilan, As I posted there are two hadiths so far on donkeys one making domesticated donkeys haram and another showing its halal to have wild donkey meat. Thus you cant compare donkeys meat to pork for example as its haram. Donkeys meat can be consumed but with a clause > wild donkey meat and TAKE WUDHU. 25. Sorry Im in a rush,Danyeer Quick answers to your questions. No hyenas meat is Haram because its a carnivore and has canine teeth. As for horses and donkeys they are technically halal.Though there is a dispute can it be considered as food, maybe last resort to a halal meal. Remember reading a narrative on donkeys/horse meat relating to the battle of Khaybaar where the Prophet SAW made it haram to eat the meat of a domestic donkey but permitted horse flesh to be eaten. (Personally think the Prophet SAW made the donkeys meat haram as the animal was of more use to the people i.e domesticated, Allah knows better.) There is also a hadith which mentioned that the Prophet SAW made it obligatory for a person to make wudhu after eating the flesh of a wild donkey. Ibna sina said the the meat of camel, horses and and donkeys are the worst of all meats. As according to his knowledge he classified the meat as hot and dry which is harmful for the body. the meat of a young camel is the best. The ruling as far as I remember on halal meat, the animal slaughtered : Should not prey on animals or carrion, shouldnt have fangs, canine teeth, beaks for tearing flesh or claws and shouldnt have 2 lives (amphibians i.e live on land and in water). Should be alive when slaughtered and name of Allah be said and given a respectful, clean cut. Exception to the ruling of dead meat which is halal is locusts and seafood. Other must nots, From the Holy Quraan: read verse 5:3, 6:145. 2:172/3 Hope this helps. Fiamanillah.
