  1. Waa run oo Garissa waa bilicsantahay. It is a booming city with mtatus, taxi, new buildings etc. It is really very impressive. Hase yeeshe waa xaruunta basaaska. I have always been warned about the jaajus in Garissa when I visit it or pass through it on my way to the other parts of the NFD. The somalis in Nairobi always warned about the Garissa jaajus; and I must admit that I have never met them ( I was keeping a low profile); but a few months ago, I met the mother of all jaajus. At the isbaaro just south of the city our bus was boarded by a somali man and a woman after the usual lete kpande control. These two filthy people sat on two of the seats in the front part of the bus near me. The usual inkaar/nacleyn "allow kuwan naga qabo" " war meeshu waa meel baas" "waxaaba iiga daran kuwan sijuiga ah oo dhulkooda keen kitambulisho lagu leeyahay" etc was in the air in the bus. These two women who were from Ohio and visiting Gedo were the loudest; anigana xoogaa waan ku biirey markaan arkay sida ummadda loola dhaqmey; and before we arrived to a local hotel nearly all of us in the front part of the bus were cursing the second class system that was prevalant in th NFD. Around 1 am we were woken up from our sleep and 15 of us were taken to the local gestapo office; and guess who were there; labadii jaajus oo baabuurka nala soo raacay. Aniga, labadii naagood iyo shan ruux oo kale ayaa nalagu yiri baxi meeysaan; we were apparently breaking a law established in 1967 during the freedom war aka the shifta wars. Apparently, the whole of the NFD was still in a state of emergency. Our bus was suppose to depart at 3 am! maxaan sameeynaa? Money, money. Aniga iyo labadii islaamood oo Ohio ka yimid (the had US passports)waan diidney inaan bixino lacag. Dadkii kale qaar ayaa bixiyey oo waa la sii daayey. We were told we will be charged. Ok. Charge us. Early in the morning hours (when our bus had already left) there were brokers all over the place. They wanted to find a "solution" i.e. negotiate a price. We refused and at around 7 am there arrived a senior office from the nabadsugida. We asked him to clarify for us what we did, which he never did. Meanwhile, our cellphones were hot calling Nairobi, overseas etc. Apparently, one of the nominated MPs ( a woman) was informed of our plight and around 2 pm we were released and here is where things got better. Through our contacts were put in a land cruiser and taken to Nairobi. In the meantime, we got several phone calls from elders, local politicians etc not pursue the issue further; and not to expose the two jaajus. I wonder why in the whole of the NFD, somalis are treated as second class citizens. It is a sorrow state when you see a university graduate born, raised and educated in Mandera/Wajir/Garissa exposed to inhuman treatment; lete kpande? and no one protests. As a frequent traveller, Mandera is the town that has benefitted most from the disintegration of "somalia". It has during 20 years turned into a metropol. plot prices are higher than in many cities. Garissa is also undergoing the same kind of dynamism although it has alot to learn (and its location might be a hinder). Mandera is grown together with Beled xaawo. With less jaajus and generally a hetrogenous population it is really growing. Aaway Hiatu?

    Happy birthday

Kool-kat waa caadi, mararka qaarkood madax faluuq ayaa igu dhaca. By the way recently I was in the real baadiya and I met a geeljire who had a mobile phone with a radio and a marduf of qaad (qaadka wuu gaaray). markaasu waxuu iigu yiri "dhotkom" waa maxay? Mar waliba waxaa laga sheegaa BBCda. I replied waa malkada (this is where reer badiyo use to water/give water to their animals) warbaahinta.

    Happy birthday

Maxaad ka wadaa bilaa camal.com? Car JB bal dhowr sadar ha qoro (af gaalo ama af soomaali) I don't what to assasinate your character but a feature of your threads on SOL is; - copy and paste of what others have written -a one liner that does not add value or say much and you have the guts to reply "bilaa camal.com"? Aduunyoo xaalka ba'
  4. JB, Instead of copy and paste of what others have written, why don't you start a thread, make an argument, so that we may engage in a discussion? Your style of copying and pasting someone else' article on SOL, is damaging the image of somaliland.
  5. http://www.hiiraan.com/op2/2010/mar/the_radicalization_kenya_somali_youth.aspx This is probably the best written opinion I have ever read on Hiiraanoline. 1) Despite the talk of wannachi, somalis are still persecuted in Kenya 2) The census count was stopped when it emerged that somalis in the NFD were more than 3 million (not to count the other millions who live in other parts of kenya) 3) The so called MPs are useless. Khalif (for those of you who don't know is the hero of many in the NFD) 4)Billow Kerow is maybe the only person who may take on Khalif's shoes, but he lost his seat. Anybody knows who Saadia is and where she may be contacted? She did not leave an e-mail address at the end of the article.
  6. Dotcom .com is celebrating its 25th anniversary. Happy birthday. When was the first time you used the internet? I think the first time, I used it was in 1994. The e-mail program I used was then called pegasus. In the late 90s almost everything on the internet was free; there was an atmosphere of anything goes; no foot prints, no authority that sanctioned anything etc There is no free lunch afterall, maybe some cheap lunch.
  7. Kol-kat Finally, we agree on something.
  8. Lychee, inta aan aqaano kolley; eeg; kuma aanan odhan kuligoodba; waxaan qoray aalaba/badanaaba Sabab loo xumeeyo ma jirto waayo meeshu maseer ma yaalo

  11. I don't think step mothers per se are bad. It is our culture which allows kids to be taken from their mothers.
  12. Resistance, First word right now; Xaal qaado Mukulaal boodboodeysa; Correction; Baadiyow
  13. Resistance, adigaba afar baad mareeysaa maandheey; Ranters, that is more than a word, unrealised hope, Managers, Ee anigu xaad iigu diidi?
  14. The paradox is that many parents want to stay in the same country that they will banish their children from. Double standards.
  15. Bisad/nyaayuur/mukulaal boodboodeyso oo difaaceeyso dadkii magaca soomaalida laa'yey baa maskaxdeeyda ku soo dhacdo mar waliba oo aan halkaan soo booqdo.
  16. I can't look at youtube currently but, Is this the song by Baastow; eedan la yaabe arxankeeda u daranaa? ..()::wiil markuu afar jiro hoyadiisa waaya... alla qaadkan maxaa dhigay agteeda.
  17. Nin Yaabanow, it is also a challenge estimating these things; in particular, in developing countries where there is a huge discrepency between official figures and actual economic transactions. My favourite book/article on the subject has been written by Sidney Winter and Richard Nelson. You can access the abstract to their opus here. http://www.jstor.org/pss/2230572 Aliamos, I understand sxb; your figures are ok. I am sure they were done "scientifically". It is the conclusions that can be drawn from these figures that is the problem. I am looking for contacts in Vienna, because I want to visit it and have a somali "guide"
  18. Ailomos, There are some issues that cannot be discarded when comparing the economic performance of countries; 1) You cannot compare an apple and a peach; Most countries in the west have systems/mechanisms that make it easier to estimate economic growth while many developing countries lack these. There is for instance a large percentage of people who work in traded sectors but whose contributions are not accounted for. 2) It depends on where the country in question starts from; to take an example, many african countries have recorded growths exceeding 10 % during the past decades but that does not mean that their percapita will grow with as much. If you look at the other indices e.g. human growth index, then there is a wide gap between the UAE and Austria. In recent years, evolutionary economic theorising has shed some light on the need for other ways to appraise growth (e.g. long-term qualitative changes, education(R&D) share etc. The UAE suffers from what is known to economists as the dutch disease - which is an offspring of the resource curse- where non-oil sector is crowded out By, the way are you in Austria or any other member for that matter?
  19. Born under a qurac geed(acacia tree) while my reer baadiyo family was on the move in search of better pasture for the animals. I was recently at my alleged birth place, weli quracii baa taagnaa. I have issue with the word "raised". What does it mean? how long are you "raised". when does it start and end? I have friends who were born in places such as ; af-barwaaqo, tuulo buryoqab, samarmooge, Dacarbuluq, safar nooleeys and qurac joomo. Lovely names.
  20. Cowke, If it is thrown on technicalities, then the guilt issue still remains. If he is tried and found not guilty or guilty that will heal the sores. But, I don't understand how people can claim that he should not be tried. I don't really understand how a sane person can be against the notion of justice. If samatar is tried that will send a clear message to all the warlords, the generals who abused their powers and almost everyone who committed a crime.
  21. Abdi Ciise, To prove whether he is guilty or not is why we have courts. I don't think Samatar is prosecuted because he comes from a small clan. It is because he is the most senior official that is alive. I don't think "he comes from a small clan and hence should go free" is a good approach. Thankful, sidaan waa dhaami jirtey saaxib maxaa ku helay? Bal dib iskugu noqo. This thread and the other threads about this case show that our sense of justice is NIL and as long as we have that then we somalis are bound to perish. This is not a question of somaliland; or a case of Riyaale. It is a question of; - JUSTICE, JUSTICE, JUSTICE. By downplaying the significance of this case and claiming that Riyaale should also be booked, Thankful, Koolkat et al are in essense denying the rights of the thousands of orphans whose parents were murdered by the somali army under the leadership of guess who?
  22. Kool-kat, Sidaan hore kuu iri, anigu caay uma arki inaan gabadh yiraahdo, NAAYAA. Ee marka xaal qaado hadaad xumaan u qaadatay; sabeen baan kugu xirey inadeer. Back to the issue; This is not about inadeer, It is about the fabrics of a modern society (that is if we somalis want to restart anew); justice, justice. Samatar is guilty in my mind by virtue of his position. His humiliation in a court of law(even if he is unlikely to be prosecuted because of judicial reasons) this will send a big signal to any warlord, former military commander out there; also to the somalis that crimes do notpay. Riyaale is out of the question, He cannot be compared with Samatar. I wish there is a list of people who become persona non grata overseas; Samatar, Morgan, Salxaan (is he alive still?), Qanyare, Yalaxow, Jees, Indha cade and the many more who are to use Saado's words occupying homes to be booked. And you are saying "what about Riyaale"? The first time many somalis heard about riyale was when he became the president of somaliland. The first time people heard samatar's name was 1969.
  23. Xaal qaado hadaad wiil/rag/lab tahay. Anigu waxaan ahay nin/kuri/odey, marka naa anigu ma laigu yeeri karo. Adiguse waxaan ku moodaayey inaad tahay dhidig/gabar/islaan/naag/xaawaley, sidaasi baan ku irin NAA, ee xumaan kama aanan wadanin. Mideeda labaad waxaad difaaceeysaa waxaan la difaaci karin. Samatar is the most senior member of a regime that is alleged to have persecuted its own people; a regime that used jet fighters on its own people. Samatar was the minister of defence and vice president when our people( yours and mine) were bombarded. That is a fact and if you are in denial then you should instead of writing a few lines on these boards, seek medical advice. Maxuu kugu sameeyey riyaale? Bal ma noo sheegi kartaa waxuu riyaale galabsaday? Ha loo shir tegin "Riyaale waa madaxweyne somaliland".
  24. Originally posted by Kool_Kat: Ducada soo badi, anoo kale kuwa ah intaas wax kama tareyso... Riyooda waaba baastaards ka kan ugu horeeyo! Ducadana soo badi... Naa heedhe, waa ku sidee? Ma waxbaa si kaa ah; ducada qof waliba waxbaay ka tartaa! Riyaale xaalku ma joogo; was really sued in a US court? Is Riyaale the most senior member of the regime who is alive? Markii geel loo heeso baad goryo u heesta. Some members of these boards never cease to amaze me with their childish responses. This is a case that in the long run will contributé to reconciliation and peace in somalia. If the likes of you would only respond with FINALLY these thugs should be brought to jutsice we may see the begining of a new somalia. As long as people like you are saying what about Riyaale, then we have a problem. By the way, Riyaale was not a member of the SRC, nor was he a minister of defence. And finally I have a question to ask you and the like minded; Do you want Qanyare, yalaxoow, qeybdid, Morgan, Indha cade and the rest of the thugs in the south prosecuted? In my view , Samatar, Morgan, Salxaan were the three key players. They should be prosecuted; sentenced to death and let the orphans of their victims urinate on their faces before a lynching mob takes on them. The same fate should await Yalaxow et al for the crimes against somalis since the 1990s.
  25. Gaani waa dhintay, allaha ha u naxriisto, Cudurka ku haaysto oo aan ugu yeeri karo "neceeb qaar ka mid ah ummadda soomaaliyeed" ilaahey ha kaa daaweeyo. Riyaale ma ahayn madaxweyne ku xigeen/wasiirka difaaca, marka xaalkiisa ka bax! Faraha in lagu fiiqo dad kale ma fiicano markaad haaysid aabihii abaabulka. dadka adiga ra'igaaga qabo waa kuwa wadankeena iyo ummaddeena halaaga u soo jiiday. Every sane somali should say it loud; bring it on; prosecute the baastaards!
