Mogadishu: security crackdown: Bandits caught PICS
General Duke replied to General Duke's topic in Politics
Indeed, thats why they are resorting to suicide bombings desperate really. -
^^^Adeer, the PM is facing what anyone in his position would, however he is in the capital and is doing his work. leaders from stronger nations have been executed in their own countries, Kennedy, Lincoln and even Reagen was shot in the US. Musharaf of Pakistan was targeted twice, Sadat was murdered and Hosni Mubarak escaped with his life. Even in Somalia in 1969 the President was murdered in home soil. What I find ammusing is that you actually try to make Somalia or Mogadishu seem a unique place of violence. Xiin Its a given the Ethiopians are helping with security, though the TFG has a far larger number in terms of Police, NSS, and so on. The Ugandans are also playing a key role in security. What the Ethiopians bring is the wepaonry and know how that we have lost over the past 16 years.

Secessionists are not recognized and Somalia is not occupied.

A side question I have for you adeer: is there anything that you are willing to concede? Any thing that you think terribly went wrong from the tfg side or from the side of your helpers for that matter? I would not use the term helper, it conjures up the idea that its all about charity when its more about mutual interest. Thus our ally or allies [Ethiopia, Uganda, US] should suffice in the future. There have been mistakes, 1. In terms of security, the crackdown was started quite late, time was given to these groups to reorganize and continue with their usual action. 2. The supposed meetings with Ahmed Diriye groups was handled badly from a PR point of view, though insiders new the real deal the public should have been given the trut regarding these meetings, that in fact they were nothing more than this group being told to detest from their actions. 3. The TFG mishandled the evacuation of the city, they should have been clearer about their intentions with the public; though they tried it was not effective. 4. The TFG information outlets are still weak, thus giving the hearsay merchants far too much room to spread anti government propaganda. 5. The training and recruitment of officers across the country has not been effective and the episode in Kismayu has shown that more training is needed and more mixing of the forces rather than clan blocks within the army should be goal. 6. The incompetence within the TFG is something that I can not ignore nor would deny, for example the removal of Buuba from the foreign Ministry position while he was one of the most effective, loyal individuals within the cabinet was a grave mistake. The lack of transparency and accountability with regards to funds are more than mistakes. -

Adeer your attempt at drawing us “the bigger picture” was rendered a failure in part to you presenting no evidence of any kind to back up your arguments, just wild claims based on the new found Somali paranoia and the ever popular inferiority complex. We all must feel guilt at what happened to our nation over the past two decades, is a Somali failure and putting the blame on others is a weak excuse. The tragedy is that some want the mayhem to continue, the killings, the suicide bombings and so on to prove their point that this country can not become normal. I understand the secessionist but others I don’t understand nor care to waste time on. To your question? I will address it soon insha Allah, give me a moment. -

Secessionists are not recognized and Somalia is not occupied.
General Duke replied to General Duke's topic in Politics
I would like to make it clear the Duke will not be able to respond to every comment or statement and will address those who’s comments are worth merit. Lets start with Xiin, An absolute disappointment is how I categorize my feeling towards that last post of his. No single fact, no shred of evidence not even a single reference just old Xiin rearranging his prejudices. The “Starbucks analysis” of the layman is coming to the fore, with the CIA, now running the show instead of the usual suspects Ethiopia who are now relegated to a mere Sharif in the Horn. The lack of understanding of the matter is further illustrated when the brother excludes the involvement of foreign elements in the game, the terror netweorks the Oromo liberation front and more importantly Eritrea as the magnet that drew the Ethiopian army into Somalia. Of course this will be played down by those who advocate the “occupation of Somalia” as their single sole remaining life line in politics. However why are all the “opposition groups” including all the main leaders of the courts hiding out in Asmara? Why not Egypt, or Djibouti why would Asmara take such risks for a group it has no interest with? The answer is simple Asmara put allot of effort, money and political clout behind this group, it trained, funded and now gives shelter to this group as well as other rebel groups against Ethiopia. Thus Asmara led by Christian Aferwarki has been using the “religious warriors of Somalia” as his latest weapon against the bitter foe Addis-Ababa. Thus Xasan Dahir and other heroes were no more than recruitment seargents, using innocent Somali blood to settle the score of others. The Somali’s never understood how threatened the regime in Addis felt towards this group and that Addis choose to support the TFG was due not to love of it, or that it controled it, but because it was the best route for them to cripple Asmara’s by taking out their new agents in Mogadishu. Its not an occupation, but an action to prevent one’s enemies from gaining more ground and further isolating the regime that one is in direct conflict with. The Somali government wins due to the fact that its interest of destroying its rival armed groups are parallel with the interest of Ethiopia, i.e. isolate Eritrea and that of the US, hunt those it was looking for in the region. Another point is the internationalization of the issue, with the AU troops coming to replace the Ethiopians and the fact that Ethiopia is supportive of this and has played a vanguard role in pushing other AU countries to send and the support the mission. If it wants to occupy Somalia, why support the international community’s effort, should it not like Israel choose never to have any UN, or regional forces in the country? One must not speak of criminal action and then support a clan movement which occupied, killed and maimed thousands of Somalis’ through out the last 16 years. This group introduces suicide bombings, assassination of retired officers and the brainwashing of child soldiers into suicide missions which the leaders fled at the first sound of the gun. The criminals are those who do not want the third republic to return, but to keep Somalia hostage under the banner of clan, pseudo religion and fighting for the interest of others. Summary: There is no occupation; a limited military presence is the reality. The whole project has the support of the international community led by the security council of the UN. There is an international force with the Ethiopians, Ugandans and the US involved and the other AU troops are coming to be replaced by UN troops. The project also has the support of the Parliament, cabinet and President of the republic of Somalia. These troops are here to help root out the criminal gangs, terror networks and criminal foreign elements that have high jacked Somalia, printing money and dabbling in drugs. They will help a train a new generation of Somali armed forces, who will take over the responsibility of security in the near future. Viva the third Republic of Somalia -

8 foreign Islamic militants killed in fighting with Somali government forces MOGADISHU, Somalia: Eight foreign Islamic militants were killed during fighting with Somali government forces in a remote, mountainous northeastern Somali area, the vice president of the region said. The fight against Islamic militants in Somalia has dramatically moved to the relatively peaceful northeast of the country, opening up a new battlefront between them and Somali government forces and their allies who have previously fought only in the country's south. Hassan Dahir Mohamoud, vice president of the semiautonomous northeastern region of Puntland, told The Associated Press Saturday that there were no civilian casualties because the area is uninhabited. Earlier reports had said the fighting took place in a village, and it is not clear why there was the discrepancy. At least one U.S. warship late Friday pounded the area, which is near the port town of Bargal, after the government forces clashed with the militants. "We have successfully completed the operation against the terrorists who came here and we are chasing the other five," said Mohamoud, speaking from the Puntland capital, Garowe. He said the total number of militants was 13, but earlier government officials reported they were as many as 35. Mohamoud said that five of the foreign militants came from Britain, Eritrea, Sweden, the U.S. and Yemen. He said security forces identified them from their passports. The remaining three could not be immediately identified, Mohamoud said. At an international conference in Singapore, U.S. Defense Secretary Robert Gates told reporters who asked on Saturday about the Somalia reports, "Frankly, I don't know exactly what was going on. I've been on the road. And I wouldn't be commenting on operational activities anyway." The government declared victory against Islamic insurgents in the Somali capital, which is in the south, in April. But since then officials of the government and Ethiopian troops sent to prop up it have been targeted in bomb attacks. "The insurgency appears to be spreading to other parts of Somalia, which raises a fundamental problem for the TFG (transitional federal government). In addition, the military tactics being used by the insurgents, including the use of suicide bombings, raises a very serious question about the prospects for long-term stability in Somalia and the region," said Ted Dagne, a specialist in African Affairs at the Congressional Research Service, the research arm of the U.S. Congress. Southern Somalia is where most of the country's 16 years of violence and chaos has taken place. Puntland, where the extremists went to, has known relative peace since forming its own regional government in 1998. A task force of coalition ships, called CTF-150, is permanently based in the northern Indian Ocean and patrols the Somali coast in hopes of intercepting international terrorists. U.S. destroyers are normally assigned to the task force and patrol in pairs. CNN International, quoting a Pentagon official, also reported the U.S. warship's involvement. A Pentagon spokesman told The Associated Press he had no information about the incident. "This is a global war on terror and the U.S. remains committed to reducing terrorist capabilities when and where we find them," Pentagon spokesman Bryan Whitman said. Puntland's minister of information, Mohamed Abdulrahman Banga, told the AP that the extremists arrived heavily armed in two fishing boats from southern Somalia, which they controlled for six months last year before being routed by Ethiopian troops sent to prop up a faltering Somali government. Musa Ismail Mohamed, a Puntland resident, said that the area the extremists are in is difficult and dangerous terrain. "This area is like Afghanistan's Tora Bora area. Americans should strike it harder than yesterday (Friday) and then they will succeed. If they do not do that, then maybe Bargal may become a stronghold for terrorists," said Mohamed, a 49 year-old former government economist, speaking by phone from Puntland's main port, Bossaso. The United States has repeatedly accused Somalia's Council of Islamic Courts of harboring international terrorists linked to al-Qaida and allegedly responsible for the 1998 bombings of the U.S. Embassies in Kenya and Tanzania. The U.S. sent a small number of special operations troops with the Ethiopian forces that drove the Islamic forces into hiding. U.S. warplanes have carried out at least two airstrikes in an attempt to kill suspected al-Qaida members, Pentagon officials have said. Source: AP

IF BAIDOA GETS ATTACKED IGAD WILL UNCONDITIONALYSEND TROOPSsuddenly! (SomaliNet) IGAD member states have pledged Somali’s interim government on Sunday to send rapidly reaction troops to base of the government Baidoa town in case of an attack after President Abdulahi Yusuf Ahmed had requested last week the IGAD governments to help his administration with the security issues, as government spokesman dismissed any Ethiopian troops in Somalia. Reports say. Abdirahman Dinari, the spokesman of transitional federal government told the reporters in Baidoa town on Sunday the news on Ethiopian forces in Somalia were untrue and it was propaganda by Islamic courts’ union that justifies for an attack on Baidoa town. After last week’s attack on presidential residence in Baidoa in which many people killed, President Yusuf made telephone contacts with heads of Kenya, Sudan, Ethiopia, Uganda and Djibouti asking them to offer military support to his needy government and these governments firstly expressed their condolences over the assault against him. The head of states put in confidence to Mr. Yusuf that they will suddenly and unconditionally send troops that will defend the government of Somalia against any attackers. The issue came as there have been tips off that Islamic militiamen were more likely to attack Baidoa town after Islamic courtsâ officials had deeply infuriated the recent decision by the Somali legislators on voting for deploying unclassified foreign peace keeping troops in Somalia. But Islamists denied they are attacking Baidoa town, 240km southwest of Somalia capital, which is seat of the transitional federal government. Meanwhile, Yemeni president Ali Abdalla Salah contacted the leader of Islamic courts Sheikh Sharif Sheikh Ahmed on Sunday telling him to comply with the condition of Somali president Abdulahi Yusuf to drop weapons and work with the government. Islamists say. Mr. Abdalla set a deadline of a week to Islamic courts union to abide by the statement of Somali’s interim government and appealed to ICU to avoid attacking Baidoa town. There has been no immediate comment yet from Islamists leader on the warning by Yemeni president who has closely allied with President Abdulahi Yusuf. There goes the argument, Ethiopia just invaded and calls the shotts. The TFG played the hand it had and what a hand the ace was under the old man's sleeve -

Geel Jire Haaaaaa. Here is the security council resoloution. Parts of the resolution 1724 (2006) reads as follows: “The Security Council, “Reaffirming the importance of the sovereignty, territorial integrity, political independence and unity of Somalia, “Stressing the need for the Transitional Federal Institutions to continue working towards establishing effective national governance in Somalia, “Reiterating the urgent need for all Somali leaders to take tangible steps to continue political dialogue, “Reiterating its strong support for the Special Representative of the Secretary-General, “Taking note of the report of the Monitoring Group dated 22 November 2006 (S/2006/913, annex) submitted pursuant to paragraph 3 (i) of resolution 1676 (2006) and the observations and recommendations contained therein, “Condemning the significant increase in the flow of weapons and ammunition supplies to and through Mogadishu and UIC held areas, which constitutes a violation of the arms embargo and a serious threat to peace and stability in Somalia, “Determining that the situation in UIC held areas of Somalia constitutes a threat to international peace and security in the region, “Acting under Chapter VII of the Charter of the United Nations, “1. Stresses the obligation of all Member States to comply fully with the measures imposed by resolution 733 (Dec, 2006); “2. Expresses its intention, in light of the report of the Monitoring Group dated 22 November 2006 (S/2006/913, annex), to consider specific action to improve implementation of and compliance with measures imposed by the new resolution 733 (Dec 2006); 3. Urges its strongest condemnation to those, who oppose the TFI and its Transitional Federal Charter; 4. Promises it support to the weak Transitional Federal Institutions by ordering the AU and Igad to send a regional force in order to secure the peace and well-being of all the members of the TFI and its related Transitional Federal Charter; 5. Stresses the need for neighbouring countries in particular the Federal Republic of Ethiopia and Eritrea to refrain from any actions, that could inflame the situation on the ground in Somalia and region; 6. Condems all the opponents of the Transitional Federal Instituitions and its Federal Trasitional Charter, which is the only viable way to peace and harmony in Somalia; 7. Warns against any actions by the UIC and other opponents of the Transitional Federal Instituitions and Federal Transitional Charter, that could destabilise or worsen the sitution on the ground in Somalia; 8. Elaborates its support to the TFI and its Transitional Federal Charter by adopting this resolution, which could possibly sanction any parties, that could go against it or try to overthrow the only viable and recognised Transitional Federal Instituitions and Transitional Federal Charter of Somalia by the UN and its Security Council of permanent states; Thus Geel-Jire the Somali Parliment allowed the Ethiopian military to come in an emergency. Thesecurity council warned the Clan Courts and others that they should not take any action against the TFG. Thus its not an illegal action. And no way an occupation. -
Apparently, the terror groups are all dead. And Geel Jire what does it matterwhat method one uses so long as his enemy is dead. Bargaal is a remote area and the LOCALS are not well armed however when they called for support the state troops went there and with air cover dealt with the situation in a day.
