Xaaji_xundjuf, you made some valid points. Eritrea while bussy fighting everyone has lost out to little Djibouti in business. Djibouti will win this, because it has the world and all its people behind it. Aferwarki is a hated despot who's troops are defecting daily. -

Abti adeer, you dont seem like your usual self, whats wrong? ARS is a split organisation. Some are hostages in Asmara being threatened by the ever desperate Aferwarki who is right now waging war on little Djibouti. Sadiq Al Mahdi a former disident of Sudan went to Eritrea and has publicly stated, Aferwarki is a mad despot not to be trusted. Again cool down adeer -

Emperor thanks for the update. So far its only a minor clash on the border. Eritrea if they chose to do so could over run the tiny Djibouti army, but I dont belive they are that dumb. Its not good news, Djibouti was attracting foreign investment because of its stability and strategic location. -

^^^lool. The topic is not about how brave the Shiekh is, he ias brave no doubt. But the sad condition the rest are in. Our hearts and prayers go to our Somali brothers held up in Aferwarki's dungeon. We must demonstarte to release Xasan Dahir Aways now. -
Northerner, again your few cents do not add up to much here. You are as ill informed as that tabloid programm on C4. Its like when the daily sport tabloid stated that Somali's in South east London had eaten all the donkeys, thus the reality is, the oppositions greatest leader signed an agreement with a toothless government? Give us a break lads, you have lost. Xasan Dahir, IndaCade and Co can do nothing, let alone some ill informed out of touch secessionists taking their notes from a western jouranlist who at times reported Somali's eat donkeys.

Wind of Change By; Hussein Salad Posted to the MOL June 10, 2008, 2:45 pm This is my spontaneous reaction when I heard the peace accord between Somali TFG and the opposition (ARS). I have just started to jot down what ever came in my mind and decided to publish it to share with the millions of Somalis around the world that welcomed the accord as one tremendous step towards lasing peace. Congratulations to all Somalis! Not matter how it goes on the ground; it will have a profound implication in the somali political theater. The impact that is irreversible. Both foes and friends of this accord will get their ammunition from the very document that is agreed upon. The choice is however to the Somali populace. Let us pray and hope the best. For that I have give a tribute to Sheekh Sharif rather than any body else in this delicate and difficult moment in the Somali peace process. As the most Somalis agree with me a leader of world class is born and is here today among us. To compromise for your people is a virtue and not a weakness. A true leader is the one who is able to predict the future, prognosis it , prepares a plan and executes it. A true leader is the one who sees what the masses can not see it. A true leader understands the circumstances that govern in his ambient out of which he devices a schema that eases the suffering of his people. I am here to give the due respect to Sheekh Sharif. I believe, he is has the potential to be the future Somali president. He belongs to the layer of one of the rare valuable beings that the Somali political spectra were lucking for the last half century. For now, albeit, too early, we can breathe and thank the almighty to made this happen. I don’t want to jump into conclusion and play fanfare as the mess of Somalia is still unbeaten. However, the peace deal between the TFG and (ARS) is something that gives hope to all of us. This is very crucial and it deserves to be cheered for. The wind of change is now blowing the Somali savanna landscape. The alternative is havoc and ordeal and it is repugnant to Allah and to the humanity We need this and the Somali folk ought to have it. We need to live in peace as any other nation in the world without being subjected to arbitrary killings, torture, humiliation or persecution. We need to be free nation as we used to be. Free from repression and from foreign interference and humiliation. A free nation that can fly the blue flag high, with white star in the helmet. A nation that is not feared, but respected and counted in the international political arenas. We need to be able to feed our people as we have one of the most prosperous land and longest shore in Africa. Yes, Somalis deserve better leadership than we have experienced so far. Peace will prevail, and the opponents of the peace deal, native or foreigners, are the real loser’s in this historic and important moment in the Somali History. I am here to sing the national anthem with very load voice “ Soomaaliyey toosooo, toosoo isku tiirsada ee hadba kina taagdaraneey taageera weligiineey Best Regards /Hussein Salad, Riyadh -

The Djibouti agreement is a landmark moment on the quest we have embarked to regain our national government. Regardless of all the fantastical talk from the opposition it is clear that they have failed in their “armed struggle”. Today they have less meaningful territory than they had since their defeat. In fact they are splintering into various desperate groups at odds with each other leaders and without a clear chain of command and purpose. Their war has been successful in projecting to the rest of the war that things are as they have been in Somalia, violent, chaotic and unforgiving. Outside that simple perception which is consumed like honey by the western media the truth could not be more different. Today a national government recognized by the majority of Somali people is in the seat of power. It is becoming more entrenched in Mogadishu, and no matter how many mortars and bombs both conventional and otherwise are sent, no matter how many officials are assassinated and no matter how much wailing is done and how many demonstrations it has not gone away, fled disappeared into the night. Its not religion of Jihad that has given them courage it is the example of history. In 1991 street battles in Mogadishu chased toppled Siyad and dismantled the structures of power. Between 1991-1994 Ali Mahdi, and UNISOM were again brought to their knees by violent armed struggle. Then came toothless Abdiqasin who instead of taking a stand joined the gangs who by this time became much more sophisticated and entrenched. The TFG has proven to be tenacious and has outmaneuvered these groups at every turn. The frustrations is evident in the language used. These groups who have occupied and drank innocent blood for 17 years now issue Fatwas and declare themselves “Mujahids” while others are all criminal, treacherous and “non belivers”. T The funny thing is that they do this from Asmara and now their Amir has signed a deal with the devil. So all of Somalia want peace but Xasan Dahir, Ahmed Diriye and some clan based websites. Funny

Breaking news: Eritrean, Djiboutian troops exchange fire at border
General Duke replied to General Duke's topic in Politics
Horn of Africa neighbours clash Troops from Djibouti and Eritrea have fired shots at each other along their shared border, the Djiboutian military said in a statement. The clashes took place on Tuesday in the Ras Doumeira area where Eritrean troops reportedly carried out an incursion on April 16, sparking tensions between the two Horn of Africa neighbours. "During the pursuit of an Eritrean deserter who tried to rally the Djiboutian armed forces, the Eritrean military opened fire on our units at around 12:30am [0930 GMT]," the Djioutian army said in a statement. "The Djiboutian armed forces retaliated with their weapons." The army said that Eritrean military officials then issued an ultimatum for Djibouti to return all 30 Eritrean deserters on its soil or face armed action. "At 6:40pm [1540 GMT], under the cover of darkness and prayer time, Eritrean troops opened fire on our soldiers," the statement said. "In the face of this attack, our military struck back ... As this statement is published, the fighting continues." Stand-off The fighting is the first since Djibouti accused Eritrean forces of digging trenches on both sides of the border, infringing several hundred metres on to Djiboutian territory, an accusation Asmara has vehemently denied. The claims began a tense stand-off which raised fears of an all-out military confrontation at the southern end of the Red Sea, one of the world's busiest shipping lanes. Djibouti and Eritrea had twice previously clashed over the border area. In April 1996 they almost went to war after a Djibouti official accused Eritrea of shelling the town of Ras Doumeira. And in 1999, Eritrea accused Djibouti of siding with Asmara's rival Ethiopia, while Djibouti accused its neighbour of supporting Djiboutian rebels and having designs on the Ras Doumeira region. According to international human rights organisations, thousands of young Eritreans attempt to leave their country every year. Ethiopia recently reported that 1,300 Eritrean had defected and crossed the border in the last six months. Djibouti is backed by France and the United States, both of which have big military bases in the country, while Eritrea is accused of backing anti-government fighters in Somalia and is involved in a long-running border standoff with Ethiopia. -

Breaking news: Eritrean, Djiboutian troops exchange fire at border

Djibouti says clashes with Eritrean troops at border DJIBOUTI, June 10 (Reuters) - Djiboutian soldiers clashed with Eritrean troops for the first time in a nearly two-month old standoff, Djiboutian state media reported on Tuesday. The Eritrean government was not immediately available for comment, and no independent confirmation of the clash was immediately available. "There was a clash between the two armies this afternoon," Djiboutian government media reported the Ministry of Defence as saying. "The fighting is still happening." The clash took place in the Mount Gabla area in northern Djibouti, the Defence Ministry was quoted as saying. The two tiny Horn of Africa nations have been locked in a standoff since mid-April, when Djibouti accused Eritrea of a illegal foray across its border. Eritrea has denied any aggression. An African Union fact-finding mission was in Djibouti to monitor the situation over the weekend, but has made none of its findings public yet. The two nations clashed over the border in the mid-1990s. Eritrea's rivalry with neighbouring Ethiopia led to a 1998-2000 war over their border that killed at least 70,000 people. Bitter feelings over that war have dominated politics in the Horn of Africa ever since, and both countries are supporting different sides in neighbouring Somalia's latest civil war. Eritrean, Djiboutian troops exchange fire at border 3 hours ago DJIBOUTI (AFP) — Djiboutian and Eritrean troops exchanged fire Tuesday for the first time since a tense stand-off started at their border two months ago, the Djiboutian military said in a statement. The clashes took place in the Ras Doumeira area at Djibouti's northern border, where Eritrean troops carried out an incursion on April 16 that sparked military tension between the two neighbours. "During the pursuit of an Eritrean deserter who tried to rally the Djiboutian armed forces, the Eritrean military opened fire on our units at around 12:30 am (0930 GMT)," the Djioutian army said in a statement. "The Djiboutian armed forces retaliated with their weapons," it added. The army explained that Eritrean military officials posted on Mount Gabla then issued an ultimatum for Djibouti to turn in all 30 Eritrean deserters on its soil or face armed action. "At 6:40 pm (1540 GMT), under the cover of darkness and prayer time, Eritrean troops opened fire on our soldiers," the statement went on. "In the face of this attack, our military struck back... As this statement is published, the fighting continues." The clash was the first since tension between the two neighbours escalated two months ago and raised fears of an all-out military confrontation that would plunge the already restive region into further chaos. Djibouti and Eritrea had already clashed twice over the border area at the southern end of the Red Sea. In April 1996 they almost went to war after a Djibouti official accused Eritrea of shelling the town of Ras Doumeira. In 1999, Eritrea accused Djibouti of siding with Asmara's arch-foe Ethiopia, while Djibouti accused its neighbour of supporting Djiboutian rebels and having designs on the Ras Doumeira region. Eritrea has denied this. Djibouti has accused Eritrean forces of digging trenches on both sides of the border on April 16, infringing several hundred metres (yards) on to Djiboutian territory, an accusation Asmara has vehemently denied. On May 19, Eritrean President Issaias Afeworki described talk of a military standoff as "a wild invention." "We are not willing to accept an invitation to get involved in a new problem or regional crisis," he said in a statement. The tiny Red Sea state of Djibouti also has borders with Ethiopia and Somalia, where regional power struggles have played out for years. Somali political rivals on Monday reached an agreement -- which includes a three-month truce to begin within a month -- during UN-sponsored talks in Djibouti. According to international rights organisations, thousands of young Eritreans attempt to leave their country every year. Ethiopia recently reported that 1,300 Eritrean had defected and crossed the border
