Internet in Egypt, as far as we can tell, has now been disabled for a full 24 hours. Arbor Networks, which has been monitoring traffic in and out of the country over 80 service providers, has released an updated graphic:

^^^I hope they and their fake religious nonsense falls next.. Though the Arabians in that country dont have the same strength as the Egyptioan society. Algeria, Libya and Morroco are ripe for change..
-
7:40 pm - Egyptian state television has announced that the curfew, which was originally applied to select cities such as Cairo, Alexandria and Suez - is now applied to the entire country. The images from state TV cameras and our cameras in Cairo - which are no more than a few hundred feet apart - tell different stories:

^^Have been following it on Guardian.co.uk & Al Jazeera English website.. The whole country is in revolt. People are united and its getting crazy.. Come on Egypt..

5.34pm: A member of ElBaradei's group told al-Jazeera there are 80,000 people protesting in Port Said, where she said a 14-year-old had been killed. 5.27pm: The Associated Press says thousands of protesters are trying to storm the foreign ministry and state TV buildings in Cairo.

The US position It looks to me as if Clinton is angling for a negotiated departure by Mubarak, accompanied by an increase in political freedom. I think the US is aiming to structure the solution in a way that would protect its key interests: the peace treaty with Israel, the Suez canal, and co-operation against terrorism.

It does not matter. We need the game to be changed and not just the players..
-
We need to be cautions here, the demonstrations might be goaded into a trap..

Viva Somaliweyn... We have all failed regardless of what clan, region or movement we supported. From NW to SW, from secular to religious, the Somali condition can not be ignored any longer..

The Associated Press reports on the scene in Cairo's central plaza: An Associated Press reporter saw the protesters cheering the police who joined them and hoisting them on their shoulders in one of the many dramatic and chaotic scenes across Egypt on Friday. After chasing the police, thousands of protesters were able to flood into the huge Tahrir Square downtown after being kept out most of the day by a very heavy police presence. Few police could be seen around the square after the confrontation.

He is a broken man today. After 30 years for it to end up like this? Military men are based on the projection of power. Today he has no power to stop a demo in the middle of the night in the most important cities in the country...

Norf, once the fear is gone, things will change. Mubarak has never faced this, he is also very old and his well laid plans are in ruins this evening.
-
lol@NGoonge, El Baradei is the western choice, they are pushing him down the thorats of the people. He is not the reveloution, and will not win an open election. We know which part will come out strong in Egypt..
-
Norf, nothing will stay the same. There is great change in the Arab & third world, things have forever changed. This has never happened in Tunisia & now Egypt. Tyrants are being forced to make concessions, not to Washington but to the Arab street... Che, Indians might run Dubai soon, they are the majority after all..

6:21 pm - Al Jazeera's Ayman Mohyeldin, in Cairo, says he can smell smoke from a fire wafting into the bureau. The fire is reportedly occurring at the headquarters of the ruling National Democratic Party. The senior leadership of the party, including president Hosni Mubarak's son, Gamal, was just at the building yesterday for a party gathering. We've been talking a lot about how these protests are "unprecedented," but this is something that has never happened before.

Norf maybe the Indians will rise up in Dubai and get their rights.. Its change we can all belive in.

Che, Yemen might even be worse than Somalia. Tribes have deep control of regions and then religious differences are much bigger in Yemen than anything in Somalia... Egypt has a strong State. Yemen does not. Tunsisia has an educated class, Yemen does not. Thats by far the weakest link if things get worse.

Jazeera's cameras captured footage of an armored personnel carrier driving on a street near central Tahrir Square with security forces wearing camoflauge inside. The crowd seemed to welcome them with happiness. Is this Egypt's army?

Egyptian state media is reporting a curfew starting at 6pm tonight (about 30 minutes away) and running until 7am tomorrow in Cairo, Alexandria and Suez. The way it's looking on the streets at the moment suggests there is little chance of people obeying the order and what can the police actually do to enforce it. 3.26pm:CloseLink to this update: http://www.guardian.co.uk/news/blog/2011/jan/28/egypt-protests-live-updates#block-22#block-27#block-72 Protesters are in control of most streets in Alexandria, says al-Jazeera. 3.24pm:CloseLink to this update: http://www.guardian.co.uk/news/blog/2011/jan/28/egypt-protests-live-updates#block-22#block-27#block-71 A screengrab shows the BBC Arabic journalist Asad Al Sawi after he was attacked by thugs acting for the government. 3.17pm:CloseLink to this update: http://www.guardian.co.uk/news/blog/2011/jan/28/egypt-protests-live-updates#block-22#block-27#block-70 A second police station has been taken over by protesters in Suez, reports al-Jazeera. 3.12pm:CloseLink to this update: http://www.guardian.co.uk/news/blog/2011/jan/28/egypt-protests-live-updates#block-22#block-27#block-69 Following up from the previous update, al-Jazeera just showed pictures of protesters jumping and cheering beside what appeared to be an army armoured vehicle in Cairo with the occupants in the vehicle not responding in any kind of negative fashion. It's too early to get carried away but al-Jazeera was suggesting this could be a sign that the army's allegiance is with the people. Let's just hope the hopes of the people are not misplaced.

Every good that was achieved in the past 20 years is nothing comparable to what could have been achieved. It was a sad, historic event, toppling a dicator is one thing, destroying the hopes and aspirations of a generation is another. Somaliland for all the talk has a bughed of peanuts. They can not build a single road and live on UN handouts. Thats progress?

Sitting in a Marfish all day, starring at a blue paper bag and making up stories about how ones clan will liberate Buhudle will not get ransom from anyone. One has to be active, Qad free and able to swim to catch the treasures of the sea. Thus keep getting Mugged. Attacvking Siyad while clapping for the likes of Siilanyu[ A minister of Barre for 9 years] and Riiyaale who was a spy for Barre.. Nothing changed the same regime was running NW Somalia since the fall of Barre.
-
We need more Muggers and less Mugged ones in these forums. Somalia marking two decades of aboslute madness is a moment that should not be played down... Long live Somaliweyn.

Che, like in Tunis, the people of Egypt are not like Somali's who looted their own homes and killed their own children. Egypt has an educated class and well organised movements. Even the Akhwan are nothing compared to the religious clowns in Somalia. This is a sophisticated society. The only question is can they defeat Mubarak,?so far so good.

Guardian... Egyptian security officials say Nobel Peace laureate Mohamed ElBaradei is under house arrest.
