  1. NEC Gears up For Local elections The Somaliland National Electoral commission is gearing up for the upcoming 2012 local government elections this according to th Electoral Commission spokesperson Mr. Mohamed Ahmed hirsi (geelle) speaking at a press conference revealed that the commission is close to finishing the electoral preparations for the upcoming local government election. Mr. Mohamed said the Electoral commission has met with the nine political organizations that are expected to take part in upcoming elections and we have agreed on a comprehensive and inclusive approach in working toward the next round of elections as mandated by the country’s Constitution and that members of the commission will be traveling to Nairobi to meet international donors in an effort to solicit funding for the electoral process, however the National Electoral Commission is under-funded. The 6 Political Organizations who qualified (WADANI, DALSAN, RAYS, UMMADDA, NASIYE and HAQSOOR will now compete with the current three national parties of UCID, UDUB and KULMIY to contest for upcoming local council elections which are expected to be held soon. ensure the sustainability, integrity and inclusiveness of future polls. The NEC also highlighted the positive impression that Somaliland’s last presidential election had on the international community and how it made Somaliland a model for the rest of Africa. Even though, Somaliland is multi-party system country with viable democratic institutions, the government of Somaliland however is not recognized international, despite a growing Western desire to establish formal ties.

Mombasa Republican Council protests: Kenyan killed Continue reading the main story Related Stories Kenya's coastal rebels A protester has died during clashes between police and a group which wants independence for the Coast region around Mombasa. A member of the Mombasa Republican Council (MRC) died after being hit on the head by a stone thrown by a fellow protester, police say. Police fired tear gas to prevent about 100 MRC members from entering a Mombasa court. The court is hearing a challenge to a ban on the group. 6. MOMBASA (Reuters) - One person was killed in Kenya on Tuesday during a protest against the government's rule of the Mombasa coastal strip, a tourism magnet and one of the country's main foreign exchange earners. The protest came after the government banned the Mombasa Republican Council (MRC), a group calling for the coastal city area to secede. More than 50 people stormed a court that was hearing a case in which the MRC has challenged the government ruling. Police fired tear gas to disperse the protesters. "I can confirm that one person died in the confrontation after the youths affiliated with the MRC stormed the law courts," said regional police chief Aggrey Adoli. Adoli said the youth died after he was hit by a stone thrown by a fellow protester. He denied reports by some protesters that police had fired live rounds. "The death of the youth was not as a result of a police bullet, but rather he died of wounds inflicted after his colleague hit him with a stone," he said. Adoli said the protesters had been warned to stay away from the court. Police made several arrests and several protesters were injured. The MRC says it wants the coastal strip, which includes Kenya's main port, to run its own affairs and accuses successive governments of doing too little to alleviate poverty.

They are the same ones that welcomed the Ethiopian invasion with a parliament vote yet fought against them in the name of Islam only to have them come back when the president was from their tol, we were sent back 6 years because of that. And now you are telling me, as a public intellectual that I should allow these people who have no regards for the name Somalia let alone their own tol to hold in their hands the future of the Somali peninsula? in other words Somalia is not ready to open talks with Somaliland now tell me how many of the people of Somalia share these views?
