he alledgedly threathened her with a knife, to be fair, thats not just any parental threat of discipline.

i didnt say it was just a somali thing, all im asking is what made you say the parents would be justified in killing her? cause to tell the truth that shocked me, especially when other people started agreeing.

Originally posted by Athena: I really dont beleive the girl.If a father abuses his kids on a regular basis, chances are the mother is gonna kick him out...its extremely rare that both parents sanction abuse of their kids mutually. : thats not necessarily true. i agree with you that the girl is probably lying but in alot of abuse cases in which the man of the house is abusing his kids, be it physically or sexually, the mother either turns a blind eye out of fear of facing reality or fear for her own well being and will usually adamently defend her spouse. im not saying thats whats going on in this case, but things like that happen. mizz unique, i agree with pretty much everything you said in your second paragaph and im still trying to wrap my mind around your first one. i mean, if what i have in mind is the right story than she was downright disrespectful to her parents for accusing them of such a thing, but her behaviour prior to it really didnt warrant her to be killed, and i think that if this had been a boy conforming, wearing baggy clohes, braiding his hair and found talking to a white girl hed be slightly teased, or at most yelled at and chastised, and the whole subject would be dropped. why is that?

Originally posted by Khayr: Salaamz, I just wanted to know especially from the 'Dhaqaan Fanatic', and everyone knows who that person is, why Somali Fathers are joining the ranks of Afro-American Fathers in terms of Abondoning their kids and not paying child support. It seems from my experience, that the Old School 'Dhaqaan' Loving Somali Fathers think that its against their 'Dhaqaan' to show love to their kids and be their for them. Its like its Not manily to show love your kids. With respect to the Child Support concept, do Somali Fathers consider it to be Haram, a SIN, if they pay child support. Help me out here cause I need some clarification. Fi Amanallah im guessin but id say its halal, because as a father its your duty to take care of your kids and if you cant be there physically for whatever reason, be it friction between yr spouse, job, wtv, providing them with things theyll nedd (clothes, books, etc), is like caring for them. and as for "abandoning" their kids, id say there are a number of reasons, but if you wanna look in the af. american community as a reference than id say poverty would be the #1 reason. having a great responsibility like raising a child and feeling helpless without a job would make some men flee from the whole situation.

schools almost starting and i believe most of you guys are college stdents such as i and well, i was just thinking how the education sysem is really flawed. its flawed in the sense that you never really learn anything. all they really ask of you is to properly spew out facts that you have to cram into yr head for exam time and get that 4.0 avg. every now and than you get a teacher who accually teaches you something instead of shoving facts down your throat that youll have to memorize in time for the next quiz. theyre usually bitter, quick witted and despised by the majority of the class. my favorite teacher in college so far was Irini Tsakiri, for my elements of culture class. shes my favorite because well, to be honest, her character won me over. she made fun of every right wing, white bread, i love america CANADIAN in the class, but she also taught me something. that EVERYTHING is political, and everyone has an agenda. yeah, well, tell me about your favorite teacher so far, whether in high school, university, hell even a neighbour whos taught you something valuable or opened yr eyes to something.

i think of money as a burden, other than procuring myself some food and shelter and clothes its completely useless. seriously, all the secondary stuff like gadgets and cars are just distractions, distracting you from how empty yr life really is.

hasnt high school taught you guys anything? this isnt ony a somali thing, granted the average somali gossips may be higher but still, not everyone who is friendly is yr friend, and who told you to choose yr friends by nationality? anyways, highschool taught me that it was always the insecure and people with tooo much time on their hands who were the most viscious so maybe you should befriend some people who have lives of their own, that way theyll be too busy to worry about yours. my best friend is somali and if there were anyone i could count on to have my back itd be her and vice versa and i dont think it has anything to do with our nationalities.

does that include you?
