  2. There's also LGBTQQIAAP and LGBTTIQQ2SA, figure that one out The Q is LGBTQ is for queer.
  3. nuune;978386 wrote: ^^ Safferz , I don't think what you say there will make Alpha happy, he will come and say you feminist, you endorse same sex marriage Sadly I think knowing I'm a feminist only draws him more towards me, I'm not sure there's anything I could say at this point that would scare him off. I've tried.
  4. Oiler;978362 wrote: The was was a general question for all to answer, but you may answe it. I identify with the far left, and I support same sex marriage as a civil right, though I think there are more important issues for LGBTQ people.

Why do you have to try and scare away everyone who talks to me  And what makes you think I'll like you if you keep insulting sand dwellers :mad:
  7. Khayr;978346 wrote: Abaya means u have money for Somalis. It's not unusual to see in Hargeisa, but I was only giving abaya as an example. I wear duruuc and dresses as well, depending on where I am.
  8. When was the last time you've been back home? Somali society has become far more conservative in recent years than it has ever been traditionally. And keep in mind that you're male, so your experience of navigating public space in the context of gender separation is going to be drastically different and *privileged* compared to mine. You can't call BS on someone else's experience.
  9. Alpha Blondy;978322 wrote: i see. wayooow, inabti? I really don't know. But I do think societies where gender segregation exists (whether it's strictly imposed like Saudi Arabia, or the sort of separateness that's considered culturally appropriate in places like Somalia/SL) tend to have abnormal gender relations and produce men like this. I feel more objectified in an abaya in Hargeisa than I do in a tank top in Toronto.
  10. Wadani;978314 wrote: loooool @ Alpha. But seriously, are wadaads bigger womenizers than the average faarax? What do u think Saffs? Agreed... I think super conservative religious types are absolutely consumed by the thought of sex and women.

  12. Anything you're interested in specifically? A good book is Robert Hess' Italian Colonialism in Somalia, but there are a few decent studies that focus on colonial rule in Somalia/Somaliland. I suspect there's a lot in Italian as well.
  13. Khayr;978288 wrote: It is because they have mentally distanced themselves from Islam . Little do they know that when the Serbs were committing genocide against the Bosnians that they could spot Bosnian blood miles away - even if they did not dress or look muslim. Meaning that unless you change your DNA completely, you will still be considered a muslim when a mob sees you in the street because you still look it. That goes to those muslim women that dye their hair blonde and have tats on their backs and those muslim men that are clean shaven and wear skinny jeans and shirts with ties. Well I don't completely agree with that, you don't even need to be Muslim to understand what's at stake here, or to support someone's right to practice their religion. I don't wear a hijab, but I don't have to to see the implications of banning the hijab (along with other religious symbols) for freedom of religion and expression in a democratic society.

Re: notwithstanding clause, the Parti Quebecois has already said they don't plan to invoke it, and it's unlikely considering they are a minority government and more interested in provocation and polarizing public opinion, which they've already done. Textbook PQ. Haatu;978239 wrote: Nonsense. What about France? As long as they can get it through parliament, they can do whatever they like using their Human Rights BS. What about France? These are two completely different countries with very different legal systems and histories of immigration/settlement. That said, it's always surprising to me to see Somalis spewing positions more in common with neo-Nazis than anyone else.
  18. Khayr;978228 wrote: What does this mean for the other two somali owned airlines? Sounds like all the business would go to Ethio Airlines. That is not a good move for a small village that wants recognition. Doesn't bother me as long as the Somali airlines are flying those old deathtrap Soviet planes. It's terrifying (I saw a crack open up upon landing on my Jubba flight once) and only a matter of time before we hear of an accident. Flying EA is also a helluva lot more convenient, especially for those of us who are traveling from North America. My almost two day safar of Toronto-Amsterdam-Dubai-Djibouti-Hargeisa is now replaced by Toronto-Addis-Hargeisa.

I can see my abs better though. Inshallah, 8 pack is on its way. ...because your intestines are meant to digest FOOD. "Detoxing" is BS, your kidneys and liver already perform that function naturally for you daily, without the need to go on a fad diet. Liquid diets are not good for you (deficient in essential nutrients, and damaging to your metabolism), and any weight you've lost in three days is water weight, not fat. You will gain it back the moment you start eating real food again. Get your protein from actual, nutritious meals, cut processed foods and sugar, count calories so you're eating at a deficit and eat as clean as possible... you'll get the results you're looking for.
  20. Does it stop anywhere before getting to Hargeisa? It would be nice to be able to fly to Hargeisa from Dire or Jijiga.

  22. ^ It's not "their country," and no one is free to do whatever they want if it infringes on the rights of others (in this instance, freedom of religion). That's the law of the land.
  23. Hobbesian_Brute;977970 wrote: Duh! its their country, how thick is your argument. ever heard of the somali saying: Rag tag lama dhaho, wuxuu ku tago ayaa la tusaa! . its a nudge sxb to let you know you have overstayed your welcome and your stay will no longer be tolerated. Canada is not a Christian country, and freedom of religion and minority rights are built into our political system and protected under the Charter of Rights and Freedoms. Quebecois racism and xenophobia will not hold up in the Supreme Court of Canada, because undermining religious freedoms under the guise of "secularism" is against our constitution.
