Fortunately, that's not how math works, or the law in its extension of rights to and protection of minority groups, for that matter. I only listed three recognizable names for anyone familiar with Somali history btw, that's not to say there are that few Somali Christians -- and to disagree with Haatu, one can identify two distinct Somali Christian communities historically that interacted with one another. Haatu;987683 wrote: Make that thread. I shall have a field day. All my favourite topics in one Let me get through this hell week first, I would hate to start a thread like that with no time to destroy all of you in debate and historical discussion Should be done writing this paper on Tuesday, so I'll do it then.

    Somali Bantu

Haatu;987696 wrote: No one told them to go home Safferz. The last part of your post is confusing. Bal elaborate. Haatu;987656 wrote: These poor people have suffered enough. It's time to right previous injustices and return them to their ancestral homeland, Tanzania and Malaw i. So what does this mean then, Haatu? It's the implication of the terms home/homeland, what does it mean for a Somali Bantu to "go home"? The fact is that most Somalis consider the Somali Bantu to be outsiders within, of elsewhere. At what point does a group become 'of' southern Somalia? This is what I meant.

    Somali Bantu

The irony and lack of self-awareness of the descendants of nomadic pastoralists telling people to "go back" where they're originally from... Indigeneity and 'ancestral' land claims are not so stable and continuous in Africa, Somalis of all people should know this. ETA: The most amusing part of all is that the Somali Bantu likely have more historical continuity in the parts of southern Somalia they settle in than the Somali clans that lay claim to them today.
  4. DoctorKenney;987675 wrote: But the number of Somali Christians are so insignificant that you almost don't wanna mention it. They're too few and far between. You're more likely to meet a White American Cowboy in the streets of Galkaacyo than meet a Somali Christian They are few in number but quite influential, particularly in Somaliland's history. I'm just not down with the erasure of Somalia's diversity and complexity, you see it in different and less subtle ways in other discussions (see Somali Bantu thread for example) but the assumptions made about Islam in Somalia are also in that vein. But that's a discussion for another thread, I think

  6. DoctorKenney;987670 wrote: ^^ Safferz, he was being sarcastic looool. Haatu wasn't serious He better be  But I've seen a lot of threads with folks here claiming Somali Christians don't exist, which is why I took the posts in this thread seriously (that, and I haven't had coffee yet today)
  7. Haatu;987638 wrote: No such thing. I know the guy behind it all. Just maryooley's making a quick buck. lol you know the guy behind it all? Is he responsible for the Christianity of historical Somalis like Michael Mariano, Anthony James, Peter Raymond, etc too? We've had Somali Christians for at least two centuries, a minority certainly but you cannot say they don't exist. Anyway, what does Angola's religious intolerance have to do with religious intolerance in the Muslim world? I see this line of thinking/argument often on SOL, why can't you critique both? Or does being Muslim disqualify you from ever speaking out against the oppression of Muslims because of the actions of governments that claim to represent global Islam (ie. Saudi Arabia, Iran)?

'Date rape' drugs might've been all the rage back then. I was thinking this during the controversy over the lyrics to "Blurred Lines"... have you folks even been LISTENING to music? Heh. And I'm with you on the cold, I feel like I should be tougher as a Canadian but over the years my tolerance to cold weather has decreased and my mood increasingly has suffered as well. Darkness at 4pm is depressing as hell. I used to love snow as a kid, but now there's nothing worse than slogging through snow, ice and slush to get around, and alternating between overheating and freezing despite wearing layers of clothing. I left my apartment looking forward to getting my day moving, only to have that sh*t on by a giant b*tchslap in the face by the cold  Change the lyric to "where my hands used to be" and it's pretty accurate lol
  11. Off topic, but that Dean Martin song makes him sound like a rapist, doesn't it The "hey, what's in this drink" part always makes me lol
  12. -8 here in Boston, I don't want to get out of bed

When you sync it to Facebook, my cartoon self should already appear but I'm not sure if you'll have to redesign yourself or if you'll get the avatar I made for you. After that it's easy to change the names to Safferz and Alpha
  19. lol I downloaded that app "bitstrips" that makes comics featuring you and your friends, I've been amusing myself with them since... it's only fair that I make a few with Alpha: It looks like us too, doesn't it Alpha?

  21. I'm bored too, except there are a million things I *should* be doing right now but I'm not. I'm watching Junot Diaz interviews and lectures instead... he's one of my favourite writers right now and I have the biggest crush on him, I've actually stopped going to his events because I'm worried he'll start recognizing me We live in the same neighbourhood apparently, so holding out hope I'll bump into him grocery shopping at Whole Foods someday...

Gone are the mad feminists and dangerous liberals, in come the good old fashioned Faaraxs with time tested values. You cavemen were only able to forge a unified opposition to oust me from power, but now that I'm gone you will return to the time tested values of qabyalad, nepotism, government corruption and inter-Somali warfare/clan cleansing  I am now working on my memoirs in Harare, writing a satirical play about Haatu's leadership, as well as publishing a compilation of my speeches on Soomaalinimo, horumarka haweenka, the evils of qabyalad, the importance of third world/south-south economic and political relationships, and pan-Africanism and black power, among other issues taken up by the greatest regime in modern Somali history.
