  1. Khayr, Khayr Alaah ha ku siyoo for bringing this topic up for discussion. I can't help, but think Somalimen of all ages and across the spectrum, have let us down big time! Horta, personaly i have been blessed with strong male role models. Our father has always been there for us and is truly a family man. My brothers are the most caring, loving creatures on earth, their wives will be the luckiest women on this side of the hemisphere (i am bias) So, i guess you're all wondering tan maxaa ragii ku diray since, she's obviously been blessed with nimo khatar ah oo beloo ka dhacday. Nobody lives in a bubble, i see what's around me, i see how bleak things look for generation X, besides i have cousins, aunts, friends etc who have been left on their own to bring up their families. Abandoned at the most critical time of their lives, i.e when she's pregnant with her 6th child.. It's disgusting and it is shameful. YOung somali men are growing up with no father figures no strong male role models, we're turning out in disturbing numbers, malfunctioning males that will continue from where their absent Fathers have left off. It is an endless cycle... Some times, i can't help but think Somalies are being punished for past sins..waayo dheh, this waay dhaftay kaftan dee!!...
  2. MIzz Unique, I'm glad your mother is OKAY (anhamdulilah). Sue the Son of a B*** and make him pay for what he did!!!!..I'll even hook you up with my Lawyer brother! As for our beloved Somalies, they are truely an enigma, they do the stupidest dumbest things on earth most of the time, then they turn right around, and do something like this...ANd you can't help but LOve them! With Somalies, it's a case of "You can't live with them but, You can't live without them" either..so you go figure!
  3. My favourate teacher was Mz Methol. She taught history at my Middle School. Before i was in Mz Methols history class, I thought i hated History and I use to dread my history classes Walaahi. I just couldn't relate to the type of History that was being taught, it had nothing to do with me nor my past so i was very dismissive and i remember how, i'd just sit at the back of the class and nap for an hour n half. Then came along Mz Methol, she was so radical in her views and so loud and Hyper that she made it impossible for me to continue with my naps. I was annoyed with her for the longest time, cos she messed up my nap time! But seriously, she was the one that taught us that history can be bias and is open to interpretations and there is no right and wrong. She was always making crazy, some what contraversial statements about some period or the other that her classes where, and this is putting it mildly, spectacular! History, thanks to Mz Methol become very exciting and very ALIFE. Another words, she made History very HIP! Mz Flamboyant..
  4. I am ashamed to say, but I've only been to a mosque 5 times in my entire life!!!!!..But, don't worry, I intend to do something about this...Inshaah Alaah!!!!! Once, when we where little my parents enrolled us in our first 'malcaamad' in our local mosque. Unfortunately for us the principal language in this 'malcaamad' was in Urdu. Ofcourse my siblings and I had no idea since we didn't speak arabic and couldn't tell the difference between Urdu and Arabic, besides we were just kids (i was the oldest and i must have been around 7) so anyways we ended up learning the Quran in Urdu before my parents found out what was going on!!!!! I distinctively remember thinking that something is very weird, off, different, not right... with this 'malcaamad' I just couldn't put my finger on it Walaahi!!! Ofcourse things have changed now, there is a Somali 'malcaamad' every corner you turn. Somalies even have their own Mosques. However, when we were growing up things were different, there were a handful of Somalies, we just didn't have the privilages that Somali children have today!...i remember Walaahi when 'halal' meat was a luxury...my mother had to travel atleast an hour each way just so she could get to a Lebonese Butcher that sold 'halal' meat... Boy, those where the days ehy! Mz Flamboyant..
  5. I was born in Madina Hospital and the midwife on duty was none other than Edna Adan... .. I was flabbergasted to hear that this woman is still at it and still in the business of midwivery!..
  6. I left Xamar in the early 80's and missed out on all the fun!! According to my cousins, Xamar at its peek was something else indeed, it was a "pardhy" town...the elite drunk champaign instead of 'faanto'...and drove 'landcruisers' instead of donkey carts. Did you know, Somalia was the largest importer of landcruisers in Africa in the mid/late 80's.. But, I never knew they had TV in Xamar, obviously my cousins forgot to mention this to me...
  7. I don't know if this is only unique to me, but i tend to control my dreams, in other words my dreams don't control me....i set the scene and the individuals in it!.. I look forward to sleeping everynight..
  8. Ilham..I feel so ****** for not knowing, silly silly me!!!! thanx walaal.. MissUnique...is never too late sweetie, mahadsanid!
  9. Daniel Day Lewis, makes a perfact villain. He is a very talented actor who takes his trade very seriously. Those of you who want to see him at his best, go watch 'My Left Foot'..i think he won an oscar for his performance. As far as this movie is conserned, I thought it was very long and some what tedious. These Violent/action movies just ain't my thang!.. Having said that,..might as well know my old time favourate movie......'When Harry Met Sally'..the battle of the sexes, and what a battle ehy!
