  1. Are you saying that Somalia currently is a lawless backward country that cannot put on a serious reconciliation conference? Is our culture that weak and devoid of integrity that our people cannot talk frank about the crimes of Somalia.
  2. I was thinking along the lines of a secular constitutional republic.
  3. I don't want to hijack this thread, but yes i read that story and maybe the GOP will put up another candidate without a felony.
  4. I did not say that Ilhan Omar was a fraud but simply stated a rumour. She has been in trouble in the past. She was arrested and set to jail in 2013 for trespassing a hotel. Snopes confirmed it
  5. Somalis are a narcissistic bunch. Why do Somalis get pleasure from the misfortune of other people? We are a truly cursed people with no end in sight.
  6. How confident are you that the U.N will formally start a path for Somaliland into nationhood. its been almost 30 years. 3, 5 10 years?
  7. Can anyone tell how the beef started between Muse Biixi admin and Caare?
  8. I am not. Just reporting what is out there.
  9. Yes. I agree, but i would rather have democratic elections that can bring a good leader forward. I don't like the religious Somali answer to our worldly problems. This keeps us distracted from tackling the issues at hand. Every nation has manage to do it. No reason why Somalia cannot have an honest and productive conversation about why our society is so f*cked up.
  10. Well I heard a rumour that she married her brother so he could get a green card to study at a Minnesota college. If the FBI are investigating this then they will question all parties involved. She could be in serious trouble if any of this is true. Ihan Omar comes across as someone ignorant of the issues facing America. She is like a media obsessed teenager who cannot keep a low profile and is foolishly going toe to toe with president. This will not end well for her as most sane people have observed. Why doesn't she focus on Somalia issues as she is on the foreign select committee and could bring real attention to the challenges facing Somalia.
  11. Yes i have too heard that terrorist Al-Kebab might be working for the government as well. Also some members of the southern clans support this terrorist group, which explains how easy they can infiltrate the government buildings. The locals are protecting Al kebab fighters so the vicious cycle never comes to an end.
  12. Here is a conference of Somalia, the panel consists of Hussesin Adam and prof Samatar. I surprised the momentum did not continue and more work was not done on the ground in Somalia. They seem to understand the core issues but no real power to implement the agenda. I think the pain of our humiliation and sense of dishonour that the civil war brought is too much, and paralysis blocked any real transformation. Somali conference in 1992
  13. FGS cannot really stop a plane from landing in the city of Hargeisa since Somaliland can refuse to follow the orders of the FGS even if the pilot of the plane is not sure. Hargeisa airport can tell the pilot to land the plane. However, the FGS can file a legal protest against the Somaliland administration and make legal problems for them. How effective all this is I don't know, Somalia is still a fragile state with very little rule of law.
  14. Apologies if this thread has been made before, but i could not find a it on the forum. Somalia needs a honest truth and reconciliation conference where all crimes and human rights violations are lad bare on the table. Somalia can not turn the page and start refresh until we have a honest dialog about the crimes of the civil war. I know that almost thirty years has passed and this could have been done in 1993 when the Americans and U.N were feeding the starving Somali populations in southern Somalia. I would like to know is there any serious plan for this conference and would the international community help facilitate it? Could I also ask why our political leaders have not pushed for something like this before. We are a nation in pain and suffering, the trauma of living in a failed state is blocking our nation's advancement. We need to heal as a people before there can be an honest talk about politics, economics and the role religion plays in Somali society.
  15. Yes I have been there, it is beautiful during the rainy season. But Berbera city is too hot. Somaliland is doing well inshallah you guys will succeed in getting your statehood.
