  1. Without any traces of oil? Then why did they they say there were oil shows last week?

  3. @Miskiin-Macruuf-Aqiyaar. I'm pretty sure the Virginia Tech Shooter (of Korean descent) was referred to as being a deranged gunman. I do believe there is a bias surrounding Muslim vs Non-Muslim terrorism cases but I think the Oslo Massacre and Fort Hood shooting should be compared instead. There hasn't been any evidence to suggest that there was any political/religious ideology behind this. Also, I find it rather ridiculous that some are using this mass shooting to play the victim card.

  5. I don't want to come off as being prick towards Arabs, but I haven't met many Arabs (Maghreb, Levant, Gulf or otherwise) who weren't racist. There are some exceptions though, particularly with Jordanians and Palestinians.
  6. @Alpha Blondy. I get the feeling that the two athletes will enjoy themselves, and won't think much of your disappointment.
  7. I'm always open to discussion, I don't initiate religious debates, but will not turn one down so long as the other party understands it's a two way dialog and doesn't use it as an opportunity to give da'wah.
  8. @Wadani. I've just enrolled in Computer Science, scientific computing to be more precise.

Anti-Islamic sentiments are growing though with the rise of conservative media. The Pakistanis are rather insulated while the Somalis and Tamils are probably the two most disliked ethnic groups in Canada, other than that. Everything is peachy!
  10. The majority of Canadians aren't Muslims so I'll be fine
  11. I usually eat outside the house anyways, so my daily activities haven't really changed around Ramadan. I don't hesitate to tell anyone I'm an atheist when asked why I'm not fasting. To those who would call closet atheists hypocrites. Consider the posts from some on this forum regarding the fate of atheists in Muslim countries, is it any wonder they choose to keep it to themselves?
  12. I'm astounded as to why stock prices dropped after this announcement. Did the word 'water' scare investors?
  13. VANCOUVER, BRITISH COLUMBIA--(Marketwire - July 18, 2012) - Horn Petroleum Corporation ("Horn Petroleum" or the "Company") (TSX VENTURE:HRN) reports that the Shabeel North well is currently at a depth of 1967meters and has penetrated a 50 meter gross section of upper Jesomma sands with oil shows. An open hole drill stem test is currently underway to determine if this zone is oil or water bearing. Regardless of the result of this test, the well will continue to drill to the base of the Jesomma sands to evaluate any additional lower Jesomma potential pay zones. Thought Somalia's borders are all with Muslim communities only enlighten me sxb When I refer to Somalia, I'm talking about the nation rather than the state. The Somalis outside the current state live and share borders with the Oromos, and other Semitic/Cushitic groups in Ethiopia as well as the Nilotes in Kenya, many of these groups are religiously heterogeneous. There were also a considerable number of Jews in Yemen before their recent migration to Israel.

Not that I am implying there are no somalis who are athiests, who knows perhaps they do exist. Coincidentally, both me and The-freeman joined around the same time. Before anyone asks, no we don't know each other and no, we're not the same person. You'll notice that The-freeman is more aggressive and pessimistic than I It's likely just the online equivalent of an allergic reaction to the large number of posts accrued by us over a short period. No worries! This forum will repel the effects of the foreign invaders in no time and eventually return to it's original non-decadent state.
  16. I've decided to see things from a larger perspective in Somalia. I'm actually neutral on the issue as Somaliland and Puntland have offered little in the way of development in the region and Khaatumo is still up in the air as they're not yet in a position to make long term plans. Anyone can draw a line through the region and it would have little meaning, there will always be Somalis on either side of it.
  17. Somalia is rather unique as it is essentially the only country in the old world that shares borders and seaways with such a variety of ethnic groups, religions and even races. I doubt Somalia is as homogeneous as some claim. There were Somali Christians before the war who likely continue to worship in secret. There probably aren't many left though.
  18. To the average person, rape and infidelity are not really comparable (outside of religion that is). Sure, just as rape and infidelity revolve around sex, murder and suicide revolve around the taking of a life. I don't think we really need a long discussion on why they're not the same.
  19. I thought Meg Whitman of Hewlett Packard was the first. She apparently spent $144 million dollars on her campaign for the seat of Governor in California
  20. Yes,but indirectly. The environmental aspects that people face can be stratified in to racial groups. African Americans were making great progress in the 60s' and 70s', until the heroin epidemic, crack epidemic combined with the determiental effects of certain sub cultures in the late 80's- early 90's led to what is seen today. Although it might seem disingenuous to disregard certain data, I'm skeptical of earlier IQ test before the civil rights movement as the same circle of academia conducting racial studies lobbied for Jewish quotas at prestigious universities, if they went that far to deny certain groups from obtaining degrees, who's to say there was no doctoring of results?
  21. I think there is some truth to it, it seems to be an accurate measurement over the life of test participants, but the causes of the correlations aren't verifiable at this point. There have been numerous experiments to determine what portions of the genome are responsible for high intellectual capacity of some and of the few promising results, none of them could be replicated in other studies. Although plenty of researchers in this field would disagree. I think IQ is for the most part environmental, many would argue that the nurturing environment that children with a higher IQ is indicative of their parents' inherent abilities, but how would that explain the Flynn effect and the impressive developments of East Asian countries?
  22. I'm assuming the aim of the article was to serve as a satire piece. Then again that could just be wishful thinking on my part.
  23. The Baardheere Dam Project as well as refineries and port upgrades should be the first order of business when it comes to infrastructure. Electrical production as well as road reconstruction is essential if Somalia will ever be self sufficient in feeding itself. The fertile south and our coastline's potential for sustaining large fisheries will be useless if markets can't expand further into the country. Somali Entrepenuers are more than capable of providing capital for factories and the like, government intervention on that part is unnecessary, build the infrastructure and provide a secure environment for investments.
  24. I'd also like to clarify what I consider to be an intelligent woman, it doesn't apply only to university grads, but would have to be someone Raamsade finds Boring! Unsexy! and Ugly!
