  4. The deficiency of political astuteness of the Haw1ye faction leaders was unmistakably farcical in their last meeting.

    Their rhetorical lamentation and self defeatist rationalization to demand more seats in the new cabinet that will be formed were also another theatrical jesting.

    Let us not attribute them womanly characteristics and disrespect out mothers and sisters. These are clowns who have no sight, no shame and no wit at all. They even dared to invite Ina Yeey to their entertaining assembly and pay tribute to him for duping them. That was a dreadful heartbreak and insult to the Haawiyye masses on the whole.

    question is will Abdullahi Yusuf renounce his clannish past? we will see!!

  6. What most optimistic Somalis refer to as the most important chapter of the peace process is now in progress, the disarmament and demobilization of the dominant Mogadishu factions. All Mogadishu factions, the warlords and their militias say they are ready to disarm and work with the newgovernment.

    The good news coming from Mogadishu is that groups of business people and civil society are already working on disarming militias and rehabilitating them. One such group is Elman.

    Hiiraan.com

    However a large number of these militiamen are also organizing themselves to gain some incentives financially. They are planning to demand a $500 USD for each combatant and there are about 60,000 of them. They want this payment to continue for at least 6 months. Some speculate that money will not be an issue if it will facilitate the removal of these combatants off the streets. There are also programs to make Mogadishu a gun-free city...

    Let us all encourage these admirable progressive and ingenious doctors, teachers, elders, youth and women’s organizations members who at the forefront of the struggle to pacify the city.

  7. Well, let say this, I am not geared up for all that aggravation for it is not worth my time and energy no more. I am currently in a very comfy position. I am done with that chick and gave up on enlightining ignorant folks. In spite of everything, still I am kind wearisome to figure stuff out in a very radical but cautious manner and look at familiar territories.

    thanks for the concern and advice

    " kabtaada iyo tolkaada waa lagu dhex jiraa "

  8. I do consent that we are complacent here of bringing into being appalling leaders and we, in spite of everything, do prop up these criminals into positions of leadership. We obviously go well with policies of tribalism. Consequently, I presume that is what we ought to have.

    That is depressing reality but how long it will be tolerable to basically go with this pessimistic and defeatist design?

  9. Somalia is an ill-fated nation that is in denial due to failed leadership. Somalia is a country that has been poorly led throughout its whole pitiable history. It is a nation in which good leadership has been notably missing; a country in which good leaders have been far too few with the exception of Aden Cadde and Abdullahi Isse. I know some may decipher this into clan predisposition but I have yet to witness any one comparable to their eminence and stature. maybe the two smatar borthers could become good candidates if we let them and if they choose to leave their comfortbale well paying academic careers.

    The overwhelming majority of the pretenders and opinionated clan nomadic dinosaurs such as the currently crowned colonel and the previous dictator who have led our nation have pursued a personal, nepotistic and authoritarian style of governance with the only intention of bleeding the meager Somali economy for personal gain. We have run the gamut from by all accounts of benevolent dictator to now an old autocratic blood thirsty one-man imperative. We are now witnessing a parade of one poor leader after another throughout our lives. Somali warlords and clan leaders are incapable to achieve anything visionary. They have failed us in the past and made us all suffer and we should not fool ourselves for expecting anything from them.

    The enormous catastrophe of our national leadership have been due in part to us Somalis embracing the primitive clannish thought of our nomadic elders. They have implemented and brought into the government their antiquated policies of nomadism. Now, we have the illiterate warlords in a parliament who are good at policies of exclusion, extortion, distortion and confusion. The new warlord president had plotted for years and outmaneuvered others in a despicable manner unto the national scene and thus achieved his ultimate goal of becoming a tribal president and we all know this was due to the unwillingness of Somalis to get rid of themselves of the warlords and embark on a new revolution to dissociate themselves of the ineffective futile concept of tribalism.

    We have all come to the realization that we have endured failed leaderships far too long. We are all now yearning for a new broad-based leadership that will practice democratic governance, in which leadership transcends transparency, participation, responsiveness, accountability and the rule of law. We should all demand a leadership that will ensure our basic human rights, human dignity and will respect our freedom. We must be consulted with and have a say in nations policies and we must hold these warlords accountable for their crimes. We must all work for inclusive clan-free and fair institutions. We must choose educated Somalis to positions of leaderships and we must make sure that they are free from discrimination based on clan affiliation, gender or any other aspect; and that economic and social policies are responsive to the needs and aspirations of Somali people. We must embark on new revolution that will eradicate poverty and diseases.

  10. As a Somali who lived most of his time outside of the mother land as I was privileged enough to leave Somalia at young age long before the deep seated clan hatred began to take its toll on my people, I could sincerely contend to be immune from the evils of tribalism.

    Even so, I do continually experience its tragic consequence in my everyday interaction with my people.

    No matter the negative experiences, I will always remain a self-righteous Somali who is very passionate towards the welfare of my people and country. I am fully aware that tribalism existed and thrived since time immemorial but I feel cheated by my family for never teaching me anything about what this means to most Somalis.

    I don't ever recall being hated or discriminated against by anyone who saw me as a member of certain clan until recently nor did I have any hatred for anyone from other clans.

    I do sometimes exhibit some revulsion when some people rub on my nose of their nomadic pride. I grew up in a community where I went to school and played with friends of all ethnicities including American, European, Africans and Middle Easterners; never once was any hatred displayed towards me. I thought that no one will have an issue of my background.

    This entire trumped up impression of Somali homogeneity vanished when I was introduced to this fine-looking young woman from the northern regions of Somalia. She is from a traditional family that is swollen with pride, yet dysfunctional. They have been here for a while but seem isolated from their surroundings.

    I dated this sexy chick for a while and liked her. I visited her family and had time shoot the breeze with her family members including her cool siblings and shrewd witty mother. I thought they accepted me and were all right with my courting of their daughter. Unfortunately, my horror came when I was attacked by her immediate cousins who threatened me with death if don't bring to an end to seeing their noble female cousin.

    I had to rationalize this incident and it forced me to seek out and rally round from my clan circle and strike back to defend my reputation and dignity and to let know these ignorant tribal folks that I , too, am from a noble ancestry and lineage but don't follow this outdated concept. It also made me re- valuate my interaction with these provincial folks even though I hate to generalize and be accessory to stereotypes.

    sadly, i am now a changed man and my Somali soul is in question becouse of that incident. i have been told it is not an isolated thing but a widespread practice that is common and tolerated

  11. Togane has this inexcusable hostility and hatred for the ******. he is obviously dancing to some clannish drums. He is at the forefront of Somali disunity and is constantly exasperating and perpetuating hate among somalis. That is not honesty and we shouldn't appluad it. it seems to me that he is still caught in sixties era where one clan dominated the political landscape of Somalia. That era is now gone and the new political realities is complete with suspicions, tribal vendettas, and mounting clan chauvinism. People are not honest in their thinking and have always hidden agendas. He is being bamboozled in this interview and even though I am somewhat related to guy, I do despise his ill-bred verbal constant assault and diatribe on specific clan and his ullulation and A$s kissing of puntlanders.

    He has to realize the state of political affairs have changed for the worse and that those he is offending are more commanding and influential in Somalia more than ever and they may strike back and eliminate him if he doesn't bring to an end his ill-advised name-calling- that is if he wants to ever set foot in Mogadishu and enjoy life in LIDO and Jazeera. otherwise his options would be to go to Boosaaso - they do have beaches there too and of course that they will exalt and cajole him excessively.

  13. being practically unimpressed with this whole political conundrum and pointing some of its future challenges doesn't translate to defeatist mentality unless you are one of those Somalis who still think along clan lines and view every arguments through the tribe lenses. All i am trying to suggest is for Ghedi to succeed, he has to formulate his plans and objectives plainly and make sure that there is a system of checks and balances. The president has to not transgress hips constitutional powers and stay within his ceremonial boundries.

  14. Mr. Yusuf is determined to outfox the beleaguered Samata-bixinta warlords ( Muse & Ato and their Co. ) with the appointment of Ghedi as the prime minister. The prime minister has no political weight and is himself inclined to a certain factions. He is part of the SRRC faction and he is not a consensus builder. It look as if that there is no power sharing and concessions among the factions and that will make things harder for the nascent government.

    Some eminent warlords in the capital are already relinquishing their parliament seats and are rallying to form an unconventional political congregation for the sole purpose of defeating this Ethiopian backed government. This would be an impediment to genuine and legitimate reconciliation and will create another bloody clashes and disastrous confrontation in the capital. Some circles have already made known how discontented they are with the Embagathi outcome. The two most important clans of Hiraab in the capital are at odds within their ownleadership and their reaction to the unpopular government, to say the least, is alarmingly frenzied and discouraging. It is back to the beginning, 1991 all over again. Only this time, we do have a warlord president with a penchant dictatorial record, inexperienced prime minister and a puppet government in exile. And worse than before, the Somalia’s political warlords and ungovernable clansmen are repositioning themselves to out maneuver each other. Again, like the 1990s, the victims would be the Somali people.

  16. I love listening to old Qaraami and Qaaci songs

    From Magool to Mooghe ... From Qarshe to Qadra!

    Ogoow gal caano galeen and shimbirayahow heesa by Magool are my favorite.

    Honestly, that legendary lady had amazing voice. I was watching a Somali modern play by some university students the other night and in one of their skits they had an act where a young man decides to do something constructive to save his lost people and there they put on this song of Magool -

    Subag weel ku daatay, sina una xumaadee ......

    nin lagu seexdoow ha seexan....

    ha seexan ..ha seexan....

    it was like that angel was singing at the backgrounds and we all felt it somehow.

    beleive me, we were all moved and subdued by the beautiful sultry voice of that lady....Magool

    and i have noticed tears rolling down on some faces... then an elderly Somali men stood up and just begin chanting and singing aftet her..

    ha seexan ha seexan..soo jeedoo ..si weyn u foojignoow....

    we all stood up and applauded it....

    it was a moment where you could feel the pain and suffering we all are going through....

    Somali music is very touching and sometimes painful to listen, specially the old legends...

    i love Tubeec, Dhuule , Mooghe, Magool, Maandeeq, Khadra, Baxsan, Hibo, Kuluc, Salaad Derbi, Ahmed Naaji, Suufi Osman, Osman Gacalo, and so many of them

  17. Hi, this is Faarax again. Look, we need to talk one more time again..last time, that break up incident was below me.. i deserve a good break up.. I really don't like the way you dumped me. It just isn't working for me. See, I don't really miss you or, care about you at all. I don't even feel a bit of sadness. Well, maybe I feel a bit scary of the fact tha I don't feel sad; I wanted to go out, you know, go on a with another chick , maybe one of your friends or a just, go to the gym and hit on that cute ethiopian chick who sits behind the counter. I really wanna do something different to forget about the way you dumped me, but honestly, you have to know I just don't miss you at all. Which is too bad, because I know how hard you tried to dump me! You really made an effort, I'm saying. . .What I thin is ..., just hear me out now, what I think is, you should break up with me again. I mean, you obviously need the practice of dumping guys, and I think I, as you said, that I need to learn to express more emotions...maybe got mad or sentimental or something...or maybe insult you back or diss you or slap you..no..i won't slap you at all that is extreme.. and that is not right....maybei need to get on my knees and shake my head and laugh at you.... I think we could both benefit from it... if it works well enough, we could just keep doing it! until i become some weak punk and you excel on the art of dumping guys? what do you say? .. wanna meet me on the coffee place again? i will get your your favorite large mochacino with..what was it ..that you always ordered ... the whip cream? let us break up again Xaliimo..i mean it this time ... it will do us good ..... macalimadda maxaa ka qabtaa?

    Taming Ethiopia's hyenas

    By Mohammed Adow

    BBC, Ethiopia

    I Seyyid Abdiweli Abdishakur, a traditional leader who also doubles up as a farmer and a pastoralist, has made a mark within his community by achieving what many men dread to even attempt.

    He has trained a hyena to look after his livestock and four hawks to guard his grain farms from destructive birds.

    The Hyena and Hawk man lives in the small town of Qabri Bayah about 50 kilometres from Jigjiga town the headquarters of the Somali region in eastern Ethiopia.

    When I visited him in his house, he was busy tending crops at his green garden - a rare sight in this arid neighbourhood.

    A group of young men were playing with the male hyena, which seemed to enjoy all the action.

    Near the hyena and without any fear, were four cows.

    The hyena looked so much at home and even licked oil from the head of one of Seyyid Abdishakur's herders.

    They have fondly named the hyena "Ali".

    Cash savings

    I asked Seyyid Abdishakur what led him to tame the hyena and hawks.

    "I have a herd of about 370 goats and hyenas have been regularly attacking my herd. Then I hatched this plan of taming the animal and I got this one at the age of two and brought him home," he said.

    Warring Somalis ought to learn a lesson from this. I have brought together hawks, cats, chicken, cattle, goats and a hyena who are all sworn enemies and they are all living harmoniously in one place.

    Seyyid Abdishakur

    Mr Abdishakur says he knew hyenas do not come to attack anywhere where their offspring are.

    "As for the hawks I caught them while they were young and I use them to guard my farms where I plant grain during the rainy season," he said.

    Mr Abdishakur says both the hawks and hyena have been of great use to him.

    "I have saved the funds which I used to hire extra people to guard my crops against birds and the hyena has become a good shepherd... other hyenas now fear my herd," he said.

    This great friendship between the beast and livestock has not come about easily.

    Village attraction

    Mr Abdishakur says that at first he was forced to hire a vehicle to carry the hyena around whenever his livestock moved to a new location.

    This was to prevent "Ali" meeting other hyenas and taking off with them.

    For the past four years the hyena has stayed with him and served him well.

    Mr Abdishakur says that he has never slaughtered a goat within the sight of the hyena to avoid it seeing the livestock as a source of food.

    "I only give him meat from the butcher," he says.

    But has he got any fears of the hyena leaving him and going back to the wild?

    "Yes, when the Hyena feels the urge to mate, then there is the danger of it leaving in search of a female one. But I have already considered this and I now put certain herbs in its food to reduce its sexual urge," said Mr Abdishakur.

    He says that he learnt this from his late father whom he says was knowledgeable on many things.

    And he is philosophical about his success in taming the wild animal and birds

    "All living things have the same interests," he said.

    "Warring Somalis ought to learn a lesson from this. I have brought together hawks, cats, chicken, cattle, goats and a hyena who are all sworn enemies and they are all living harmoniously in one place. It's time Somalis reflected and thought of their interests and stopped feuding."

    Mr Abdishakur has also kept the hawks separated in huge cages fearing that they will mate and breed.

    He says he does not have the financial ability to support any offspring at the moment.

    But for now he is the centre of attraction in this village and people from both far and near come to his compound daily to marvel at his rare catch.

  19. Fanaanaddii caanka ahayd ee Xaliimo Khaliif Magool oo maanta geeriyootay

    Jimco, March 19, 2004

    Waxaa maanta duhurnimadii ku geeriyootay cusbitaal ku yaala magaalada Amsterdam ee dalka Holland fannaanaddii caanka ahayd ee dalka soomaaliyana sida weyn looga jeclaa Xaliimo Khaliif Cumar Magool.

    Marxuumadda ayaa u geeriyootay cudurka dhiig karka oo ay indhawaalaba ay la il-darneyd, iyadoo ka mid ahayd fannaaniinta soomaaliyeed ee aan dalka meelna uga bixin mudadii bur burka, taasina ayaana la rumeysan yahay in uu cudurkaasi ugu dhacay maadaama cudurka dhiig karka uu ka mid yahay cudurada ay xaaladuhu keenaan, gaar ahaan marka qofka uu galo marxalad ka adag tii uu markiisii hore ku noolaa.

    Marxuumad Xaliimo intii aysan ka amba bixin magaalada Muqdisho ayaan kula kulmay Hotel-ka Amiira ee magaalada Muqdisho, xiligaasi oo fanaanada laga dareemi karay is-bedel dhinaca muuqaalkeeda ah, inkastoo ay ii sheegtay in ay ka soo yara ladnaaneyso cudurka dhiig karka, waayo waxaan ogaa mar iyadoo xanuunsan la keenay Cusbitaalka Cumar Bin Khadaab ee agagaarka Isgoyska Siinaay ee magaalada Muqdisho, xiligaasoo uu la socday amaba uu cusbitaalka wax ka keenay Fannaanka Cabdi Tahliil Warsame oo xiligaas ladnaa haseyeeshee isaga qudhiisa haatan uu haleelay cudurka dhiig karka, waxaadna arkeysaa Cabdi Tahliil oo aadan aqoonsaneyn marka uu kaa horyimaado ilaa aad isha u cel celiso mooyee, waxaa kale oo uu isna cudurkaan haleelay fanaanka kale ee Xasan Diiriye Faarax oo uu isna lug iyo gacan ka naafeeyay, wuxuuna ku tukubaa bakoorad.

    Waa xusid mudan in fannaanada ay markii ugu dambeysay sheegtay in ay dhinaca fanka ka faraxalatay isla markaana ay u soo jeesaneyso cibaadada alle, iyadoo xustay berigaas in ay damacsan tahay in ay masjid dhisto, isla markaana inta cimrigeeda ka dhiman ay cibaadeysato, waxayna geeriyootay iyadoo fikirkaas qabta.

    Si kastaba, alle ha u naxariistee markii ay maanta maqleen dadka Muqdisho geerida fannaanadaas alle ha u naxariistee aad ayay uga tiiraanyoodeen, waxaana idaacadaha Muqdishi qaarkood ay sii daayeen heesaheeda, gaar ahaan kuwii ka hadlayay wadaniyadda iyo nabi ammaanka, waxaana la isla gartay in ay meesha ka baxday fannaanad weyn oo magac iyo maamuus ku dhex lahayd dadka iyo dalka Soomaaliyeed. Haddaba ma dhinte waa Illaah qof kastana wuu dhimanayaa, waxaana leenahay fannaanadda alle ha u naxariisto, qoyskii, eheladii, asxaabtii iyo weliba dhamaan shacabka soomaaliyeed-na samir iyo iimaan alle haka siiyo. INNAA LILLAAH WA INNAA ILEYHI RAAJICUUN.

  20. Let the Rich Go First

    A rap poem by U. S. Representative Major R. Owens

    Working Families Keep your soldiers at home,

    For overtime in Iraq

    No cash

    No comp time

    Not even gratitude,

    Republicans intrude

    To exempt all heroes,

    No combat rotation

    Life on indefinite probation

    Scrooges running the Nation.

    To the front lines

    Let the rich go first--

    For blood they got a thirst,

    Let the superstars drink it

    In the glorious trenches;

    Leave the disadvantaged on the benches.

    Working Families

    Let the rich go first:

    The battlegrounds they always choose

    Their estates have the most to lose;

    Send highest IQs to

    Take positions at the front,

    Let them perform their best

    High-tech warfare stunt;

    Working Families

    Keep your malnourished sons home--

    Harvard Yale kids should roam

    The world with guns and tanks,

    Reserve gold medals

    For the loyal Ivy League ranks.

    O say can you see

    Millionaire graduates

    Dying for you and me?

    Welfare Moms

    Have a message for the masters:

    Tell Uncle Sam

    His TANF pennies he can keep

    For food stamps we refuse to leap

    Through your hoops like beasts;

    Promise to leave our soldiers alone

    And we'll find our own feasts.

    To Uncle Sam we offer a bargain--

    Don't throw us dirty crumbs

    Don't treat us like bums

    And then demand

    The full measure of devotion;

    Our minds are now in motion

    Class warfare

    Is not such a bad notion;

    Your swindle will not last

    Recruiters we won't let pass,

    Finally, we opened our eyes--

    Each family is a private enterprise.

    Each child a precious prize;

    We got American property rights,

    Before our children die in war

    This time we'll choose the fights.

    Let the rich go first:

    They worry about

    The overtime we abuse;

    The battlefields they always choose

    Their estates have the most to lose.

    Let the rich go first!
