  1. Top Girl...isn't there a way you can transfer some of the credits to another program that you like? For me I took fashion design. It was great when I lived in Toronto, but I am now in Edmonton. It wasn't a total waste though, at least I am able to make all out clothes. I am 35 and have to go back to college. Tammy's Somali Home
  2. I'd love to learn Somali as well. I know a few sentences. I will write them in English since I don't know Somali 1. strashow = facecloth 2. shoekooman = towel 3. wariya niya marskusha = bathroom fariso = sit seho = sleep I know a Canadian sister and she pretty much only speaks Somali to the kids. Not bad considering she isn't Somali Tammy's Somali Home
  3. thank you sis Subhana'Allah very informative. I had no idea about what is happening. Do you mind if I use some of the articles for my blog? I think many of my readers would find it interesting. Tammy's Somali Home
  4. Masha'Allah Jazakallah for this. I think I just might print it. So often we get too busy with our lives, and we forget why we are here. Once again thank you for the reminder. Tammy's Somali Home
  5. Definitely the jungle...at least you can survive a little longer.
  6. That sounds great...Thank You
  7. Assalamu Alaikum my brothers and sisters, I think it is important for my children (who are half Somali and half Canadian) to learn about their Somali Heritage. So far they eat mostly Somali food, but really nothing else. My oldest can understand Somali but can't speak it. English is the main language in the home. My question to you is: What other ways can I teach them about their culture? Amina Tammy's Somali Home
  8. Assalamu Alaikum my brothers and sisters. Does anyone know how to change the title of a post?

Besides, welcome to SOL... I am sure that you will be pleased with the site if you take a look at it now. I uploaded a bunch of the rice recipes....just for you!
  10. Does marinating steak for long make it softer / chewy? [/QB] It makes it very tender. It also enhances the flavor.
  11. Men wear macawis (like a kilt, but longer and wider/bigger)...Noth ing sexy about the damn thing, that's just me... Oh so not true! I love it, it is so sexy especially the ones that are really soft.
  12. I agree that the divorce rate is up no matter the culture. But I am confused though about you Sister1000, first you ask about Somali culture because of a Somali guy you like then you ask about the divorce rate. Hmmm maybe you should just concentrate on whether a person is a good Muslim or not.

  14. Originally posted by Goodir: ^Amina since you are married to one, you tell us of the typical Somali husband. Well I remember when we first got married I used to do all the cleaning and cooking until I went to college. I made a deal with him that if he wanted me to go to school, he would have to help me out around the house.
  15. The best thing to do when you do speak to him is to ask him what his views are. I know many Somali men that sit in donut shops 24/7 and others that spend their free time with the family. I know some that are not affectionate (from what their wives say) and others that have loving and affectionate husbands. I know some that don't lift a finger to help with the house and kids and others that have not only done laundry, but changed dirty poopy diapers.

It is getting harder and harder for them to enjoy "it" without toys, sadistic fantasies, adult films, millions of Mags telling them how to take it to the next level or how play this or that. No? They're soo preoccupied with it that you would think it is their only purpose of life. Well said!!
  17. sis Sabriya are u on Facebook
  18. you know i actually got a mental picture from your description!!
  19. What about the typical Somali husband. ha ha ha

What attracted me first was how hospitable and kind they were. The more I learned the more I just loved it. I find that many Somalis (even those that are non practicing Muslims) have some Islam in them. (I hope my idea is coming out clearly.)

  22. but it's still very unhealthy, too much oodkac, basto iyo bariis is not good for you. [/QB] Most places (even our house) you have a big plate of rice, some chicken or meat and a small salad. The solution is to make the rice or pasta a side dish, baked chicken and a bigger salad
  23. I can't take the credit on the pancake mix though...I saw my sister in law do it. It is perfect though because you don't need to let it sit. And it is really cheap to make.
  24. Sis Sabriya...thank you for the kind words. Believe it or not, my oldest was born white. He was so white that mom asked me if I had an affair (Authu'billah) Now he is pretty much like my husband.
