By Katie Riordan

Somalilandsun - Mohamed Hossien Geeldoon never questioned putting his life in the hands of smugglers who promised to covertly transport him from his home in Somaliland in the Horn of Africa to Europe.

"You would never try to go legally as a Somali; it's impossible," said Geeldoon, now 27. "But once you have the idea of migration in your head, it doesn't go away."

The then 21-year-old was convinced that making it to Europe was his best chance of getting a higher education and bettering his future. But after a two-year long odyssey mired with multiple failed attempts to cross the Mediterranean and great personal and financial costs to him and his family, he was back where he started.

Hargeisa is hell on Earth. You can't even get cold bottled water there without having to make an effort in searching for it. And Hargeisa is supposed to be one of the more 'advanced and modern cities".

The main problems Hargeisa has is non existence infrastructure, water and

non existence trash collection, most things that make a city modern remotely

is lacking in Hargeisa. I didn't have a problem getting cold bottled water in the

shops though. :D

Dadkaan Shaqo hala siiyo, so they don't go on Tahriibs and lose their life on the sea.

I hope our brothers from Gobolada Waqooyi the best luck.

^And where will they get shaqo from if the entire population wants to leave the country and no one wants to build it? Jobs are created by people investing and producing. But in Somalia - business people would rather put money into Nairobi and Dubai and the average folk would rather die en route to another country that was actually built up by its citizens rather than build his own. Go figure.
