Kismayo War Imminent; Kenya Deploys Special Forces

Recommended Posts

Kismayo will not easily fall ...sadly the damage has already been done as the residents were forced to flee. Alshabaab are wounded, and the wounded, as the cliche goes, is ever more dangerous. News feeds indicate that instead of fleeing into the jungle , they dug their feet deeper , waiting for the enemy to arrive at the outskirts of the city. Not sure if the carnage that will follow is something Kenyans have stomach for

I don't think the Kenyans have much of a choice now. They dug themselves pretty deep into this war.

If AMISOM pulls out of Somalia now, you don't think Al Shabab will regroup, reconquer Somalia, and then launch attacks against Uganda/Kenya/Burundi?

The Kenyans now know that this war in Somalia is tied to their national security, and that defeating Al Shabab is crucial to their well-being.

Al-Shabaab is not a threat to Kenya, Somalis are and therefore the Kenyans are doing their bit to make sure there will be no threat once Somalia is fully re-established to its former glory.

A functioning Somali State is much less of a threat to Kenya when compared to a hostile Taliban-Style dictatorship of a Godane-led Somalia. If Al Shabaab regrouped and conquered Somalia, they would then launch attacks on Kenya and Uganda in revenge.
