The figure of 50.000 is fake and propaganda, the real figure is 5.000 as displayed in the US Library of Congress, they added another zero.

WIKIPEDIA

Ma fahmin ma anaa waalan mise kuwanaa caqliga dhooli laga saaray? Maxay macno samaynaysaa qofkii xaqdaro ku dilay 5000 (6 months) or 50K whole period (1981 to 1991) dhimasho waa ka dhimasho. Caqligiinu wuxuu idiin sheegay kii la dilay (dhibanahii) muxuu u calaacalayaa.

Anaga agtayada noloshu qiimay ka leedahay haddii idinku aad 5000 caadi u aragtaan ilayn A/lahi yusuf ayaa maalin qudha bakaarha ku dilay intaa in leeg

Wiil Cusub, I didn't even share their sentiment and I never mock Somaliland's experience but your last comment made me shift and I believe you deserved it now. :D

Lol. That old man is my hero. Only a true Somali can spew utter BS with a straight face.

This propensity to talk BS without a flinch is common among all Somalis. Not that long ago I chanced upon "Xamar yaa Leh" debate on Universal TV. The debate was between some qurbojoog dude named Maxamed Raage who belonged to either Sh. Shariif's or Qanyare's clan and a Rer Xamar or Rer Cadcad man. The Reer Xamar guy didn't know that he was dealing with veritable Somali that day. First, Raage denied the very existence of Reer Xamar people claiming they're fictious group despite sitting across a self-proclaimed Reer Xamar. Stunned Rer Xamar guy retorted by citing the prominent role Reer Xamar played in Somali history including their role in SYL. At this point Mr. Raage's annoyance is all too apparent and he relieves his annoyance by calling the Rer Xamar SYL members a pack of self-styled criminals. But he doesn't stop there because the Rer Xamar guy, looking for any consensus, mentioned the historical role Rer Xamar played in Benaadir region going back hundreds of years all the while introducing innovations, new ideas and architecture. To upstage his opponent, Mr Raage came up with the best of his outlandish claims when he said it took only 300 Somalis to defeat the Japanese at Bermuda! Since when? Lool!
