Read the link above for details.

Questions are abound though.

1- Why would Faroole forgo his bid to hold all inclusive Somali conference in Garowe, and rather endorse a new round of election by 550 parliamentarians led by Sharif Xasan?

read below for Minister Jemcale's statement:

http://www.hiiraan.com/news/2011/May/wararka_maanta12-13529.htm

2- Why would Farmaajo boycott the Nairobi conference where he could have been the prominent leader in the room, and might have had a sway on the dates, and go instead to NY only to accept Mahiga's original dictates?

Here below are the details

Anyone?

Farmaajo is not interested in holding the position. His regular job is on stand by and the New York State government of Cuomo has promoted him to higher position above the six figure mark he was already making. I have spoken with the man. He truly believes the transitional era should continue beyond August to cement the gains and the fact AL Shabaab is now being defeated in southern Somalia is because of his active attention and support. Should formalities abound and continue the same political movements that saw no success in 20 years; perhaps some could argue that. However, if the man feels much is at stake and he will help matters by capitulating he will. He has been told his cousin, living in the US for close to 30 years, with a PhD will be slated president. So I am sure in this case Farmaajo can be confident the support to the defeat of Shabaab in the south will continue. Faroole has already been vetted and disregarded by the same international community he sought to impress. He is a not a man to join the government dictated to and controlled by foreign sources in this time of our loss of sovereignty. If being Puntland president was a projection, Cadde Muuse would have been seen since and he did have "hami".

"The Security Council notes that the transitional period will end in August 2011. It commends the work of the SRSG to facilitate the consultative process amongst Somalis in their efforts to reach an agreement on post-transitional arrangements, in consultation with the international community and within the framework of the Djibouti Agreement. In this regard, it welcomes the High-Level Consultative Meeting held in Nairobi on 12 and 13 April 2011. The Security Council welcomes the participation of a wide range of Somali stakeholders and partners."

This is a punch in the face to Shariifka. He should've listened to Mahiga's words. I don't know about you guys but I can clearly see TFG 3.0 in the making. I see Shariifka heading to an Arab country, possibly Qatar and Farmajo heading back to Buffalo, NY.

UNITED NATIONS (AP) - The UN Security Council on Wednesday demanded that Somalia’s feuding president and parliament reach agreement quickly on holding elections by August when the mandate for the country’s transitional government ends.

Somali lawmakers — who in February unilaterally extended their own mandate by three years — have been vowing for months to hold a presidential vote despite the president’s objections. The president wants to extend his term for a year without a vote.

The Security Council expressed concern in a statement after an open meeting at “the discord” between the executive and legislative leaders “and its impact on the political and the security situation.” It urged the leaders to reach agreement on holding elections for president and speaker of parliament “as soon as possible” and warned that without such elections “there can be no extension” of the transitional government’s mandate.

Somalia has not had an effective government since 1991 when warlords overthrew a longtime dictator and then turned on each other, plunging the country into chaos and anarchy.

A transitional government, established in 2004 and backed by about 9,000 African Union troops, has been fighting an Islamist insurgent group, Al-Shabab.

Augustine Mahiga, the top UN envoy in Somalia, told the council that government and AU forces “have made significant territorial gains in Mogadishu,” the capital, and are also making “impressive gains in the central, western and southern frontiers” of the strategically-located country on the Horn of Africa.

But he said disagreement over the election issue between the legislative and executive branches of government “is causing a political paralysis in Mogadishu.” “There is, therefore, a need to develop urgently a consensus on the when and how to hold elections,” Mahiga said.

Somali Prime Minister Mohamed Abdulahi Mohamed told the council that President Sheik Sharif Sheik Ahmed has asked parliament to reconsider its decision to extend its term, but the speaker has so far refused.

“The most disturbing consequence of this situation is the descent into political instability at precisely the time when the security situation is on the verge of a breakthrough and governance is taking effective strides forward,” he said.

Mohamed said his government believes “this is the worst possible time to be distracted by untenable election processes and the divisive campaigning that will inevitably take place.” He said the election diversion will also offer Al-Shabab “an opportunity it will take full advantage of.” Therefore, he said, the president has proposed extending the transitional federal institutions for 12 months in the belief that a further year of political stability and progress on security “will create a chance for real and fair elections in which potentially the public can take part.” Mahiga said he tried “to rekindle dialogue” between the two branches at a meeting in Nairobi in April but the feuding lawmakers and government leaders boycotted it. The Security Council is heading to Africa late next week and members are expecting to meet Somalia’s executive and legislative leaders in Nairobi at the end of their trip to reiterate their demand for elections in person.

Mahiga said he is “heartened” that the government is convening a meeting of key parties in Mogadishu from June 11-16.

The Security Council also welcomed that meeting and urged “all Somali stakeholders” to participate and play a role in finalizing arrangements for ending the transition by the Aug. 20 deadline.

That's the whole point, to give the neolithic organisation; Al-Shabaab breathing space, and perpetually stalemate the situation in Somalia until the conflicts in Afghanistan, Iraq and Libya have been delt with, and a new theatre of war is needed for the increasingly irrelevant NATO and the newly born AFRICOM. The amount of agendas against this country, be they international, regional, local, economical, historical or ideological is so mind boggling and so intense, even the most united and wealthy countries in the world would shake at their foundations if faced with such sinister pressure.

Therefore, he said, the president has proposed extending the transitional federal institutions for 12 months in the belief that a further year of political stability and progress on security “will create a chance for real and fair elections in which potentially the public can take part.”

Common sense indeed. More than a dozen useless transitional extensions were supported by the IC with no tangible results to speak off and which only made the conflict worse. Now that there is progress being made from security to the establishment of institutions, suddenly no more extensions?

What a joke!
