JERUSALEM - A former top military intelligence official said on Tuesday that Israeli Vice Premier Shimon Peres’ threat that that Iran could also be destroyed was not accidental.

“The statement by Shimon Peres highlights the basis of Israeli deterrence and hints to Teheran that it too has a soft underbelly,†Col. (Ret.) Shimon Boyarsky, a former head of the Iran department in military intelligence, told Israel’s Army Radio. “A statement that was repeated three times was not said accidentally.â€

On Monday, Peres warned Iran that it could be threatened with destruction if it continues to vow to destroy Israel. “Be careful with your threats,†Peres told Channel 1 TV. [/b]“Those who threaten to destroy are in danger of being destroyed.â€[/b]

Israel has grown increasingly concerned in recent months by calls from Iran’s leader to wipe Israel off the map and Iran’s determination to continue its nuclear program. The West believes Iran is trying to develop a nuclear weapon and has moved to impose sanctions against the country in the UN Security Council. Iran says its enrichment of uranium is meant for peaceful purposes.

The United Nations Security Council is to meet later Tuesday to discuss whether to impose sanctions on Iran.

In 1981, Israel launched an air strike to destroy an unfinished Iraqi nuclear reactor. Experts have said such a pinpointed strike against Iran would not be possible, because Teheran’s nuclear facilities are intentionally dispersed throughout the country, some of them hidden underground.

Shimon Peres asaga waligiis siyaasadda Yahuuda maka retire gareeyo miyaa? Always holding a government office. Ilaa aan maqlay magaciis '92 ilaa hada siyaadda uu ku dhex jiraa, though perceived politically a perennial underachiever.

The only Yahuud siyaasi I respect, which is little to begin, is this old man.

MMA, Perez played a role in the founding of the state of Israel. He became a minister at the age of 29. He served in every ministry and held the title of PM three times although he never won an election. He is also the architect of the Israeli nuclear programm with the help of the French.

Though he won the noble prize for peace he is a closet hawk who was a close ally of Sharon even though they were members of difefrent parties.

Now he is an old statemen at 82/3 he is the Vice Premier of the new government of Ehud Olmert.
