Putin's Speech at this year's Munich Conference

Recommended Posts

NASSIR

Russia is not anywhere closer to how it was during the Soviet era but the specter of a new cold war has been invoked repeatedly by Foreign affairs experts citing Putin's speech in Munich Conference in which he said,

"Today we are witnessing an almost uncontained hyper use of force – military force – in international relations, force that is plunging the world into an abyss of permanent conflicts. As a result we do not have sufficient strength to find a comprehensive solution to any one of these conflicts. Finding a political settlement also becomes impossible.

We are seeing a greater and greater disdain for the basic principles of international law. And independent legal norms are, as a matter of fact, coming increasingly closer to one state’s legal system. One state and, of course, first and foremost the United States, has overstepped its national borders in every way. This is visible in the economic, political, cultural and educational policies it imposes on other nations. Well, who likes this? Who is happy about this? " Link

Russia has tested recently the most powerful vacuum bomb known as "father of all bomb" in what seems another Arms Race of the late 80s. The new weapon is said to be much stronger than the U.S built "mother of all bomb". Link

Another News indicates that U.S is now pursuing a new one that will be called the "Grandfather of all Bomb". lol.

What do you think would Russia call the next one after this? Perhaps they will keep continuing until they run out of names.

Caamir: Very good topic…

I remember one of the past speeches of president Putin, where the first time he accused the US for trying to establish or wanting to become “uni-polar”, which plainly means one single power for the universe. Given the tone and the content, I knew that Mr. Putin was working on something like “father of bomb”…..

You are right, it seems like we are going back to the cold war, but we all know Russia is still too weak “economically” to compete with US.

Koore-Tuunshe, Don't underestimate the raising powers for the world today. For instance, China and India (Chindia), specially China...If things go the way they are, the world is shifting from Uni-polar system to Multi-polar system, good or bad needs further analysis. However, these changes are underway as we speak..therefore they can either be contained or slowed down but can't be stopped.

I also agree with u that Russia is still too weak economically to withstand the hegemony of the US,... with that said, be mind it has both the natural and human resources. Apparently changes always take time but for sure something is cooking
