Dear Nomad

Are you easily seduced by wealth and money?

Do you as a somali Xaliimo spend most of your time fantasizing about good living, like a vacation in the Carribean aboard the Sun Viking, Norwegian liners? hopping from an island to an island with a liberated Faarax?, spending your time leisurely at casinos and beach resorts?

Are social prestige, status, upscale neighborhoods and class your driver to work hard?

Have you robbed anyone and deprived them their money or killed them for it during the unCivil war?

If you answered yes to any of the above, you are a DUNYAHOLIC!

You need treatment at one of e-Nuri clinics, later you need, to change your perspevtives by changing your vision and lenses, and if all goes well, you need to stop by at the e-Nuri Hasanaat Restaurant for a dose of imaan tune -up and boosting of Ehsaan energy.

As a test to see the level of your Dunyaholism, you will have to walk on a Dunyaa sobriety test line. The time-line from the time you reached puberty to the present.

Imagine, while speeding down the Dunyaa highway, a cop ( angel) notices that your vehicle ( Life) is swerving erratically endangering life of other people, ( you lie, you are greedy, you are violent, you envy others when they succced and wish bad things happen to them, you curse and insult, you cheat, etc) all of which are advanced symptoms of Dunyaholism, So when the angel gives you the citation, that your vehicle is no longer allowed to be on the highway of life, what is your plan saaxiib?. you know it is not going to get any better from this point on?

So what is Dunyaholism:

According to the e-Nuri Dictionary: it is a state of oblivion to the approaching termination of life and failure to prepare for it by finding the purpose of life before it is over, by doing good deeds, such as helping the poor, and enjoying their company, teaching kids, consoling the afflicted and helping the oppressed find justice without exposing them to a worse situation

Dunyaholism starts slowly when you sip little bit of Dunyaa everyday, thinking that a little Dunyaa is OK from time to time, such as just before you go to bed, Dunya being on your mind when you sleep, in your dream and the first thing that comes to your mind when you are up in the morning, missing the Fajr prayer never annoys you, but missing the bus to school or work sends you to Garasbaalley mental clinic.

The second stage of Dunyaholism is when you spend more time planning to stash away savings so you can retire in style, you begin reading Wall Street Journal, Millionnaire Magazine and you slowly feel irritated by poor people's nonsense and their demonstrations for housing or food subsidy.

The Final and most serious stage of dunyaholism is when you call your Xaliimo from Dubai Gold Suuk to ask her which jewellery set she wants to wear for her ina abti wedding, a 30,000 Dollar diamond jewellery set or the new style 50,000 Dollar diamond and white gold set from Singapore, while at the same time you cant find time nor feeling whatsoever for your old blind aunty Waris rotting and suffering alone in Baadiye without any help.

Its not an easy feat walking on Dunyaa sobriety check points when you just had a Dunyaa party, lot of laughter, fun and good times, suddenly, the good times are over, it is the morning after, in the day of judgement , you wake up with a hang-over the size of mounti Fuji hovering over your head, the more you look around, the more you realize the size of your Dunyaholism, so bad saaxib.

So, why not seek professional help?

Salaam Nur,

I am a reforming-dunyaholic. Islam has and is truly turning me around. More and more, I am not able to do anything without calling into question my religion and image (not literal) of Allah (SWT). More and more I find inner peace as a result of my religion and compelte submission to Allah (SWT). I am becoming statisfied as the aduunya looses hold of me.

Brother Nur, where were you when the shiit was hitting the fan in the general section? You should have shown up for your flogging with this talk of 'purpose in life'.

Seriously though, you have the wrong set of symptoms for dunyaholism. A whole lot of students and working poor like me roam these sites, you are preaching the wrong thing in this instance. No millionaire magazines, Carribean vacations or dahab from Dubai. If you have an antidote against my student loan officer, you need to help a sister out ;) .

Loooooooool. Yeah, you're shamelessly straightforward.

Nur, I'm a survive-aholic not a Dunyaholic, I think.

Mr. Faarax

Alhamdulillah, congratulations for putting a fair fight with Dunyaa, Allah swt says : Walladiina jaahaduu fiinaa la nahdiyannahum subulanaa" " As for those who put up a fight seeking ( Allah), we shall surely guide them toward us" GUARANTEED.

Digaale.

Identifying the problem is a quick win, next, you need to measure the impact if left unslolved, later, you need to devise a solution and follow it thru.

Naden.

Sorry I missed that page, purpose of life is an area of research at eNuri, since Allah blessed us finding out about it, we are active on forums sharing our perspective with other Nomads.

The Dunyaholism affliction is not about having money, its also getting bogged down looking for a survival, when in reality, what you are looking is right in your hands, only Duaa away, Allah provides RIZQ, the minute you think that you have to provoide RIZQ by forgoing a prayer, or doing a little good on earth, you are missing the point, Allah SWT says : And encourage your folk to pray ( after youd do it right), We dont require you to provide RIZQ for yourself, We do provide it for you, and the last (laugh) is for Taqwa ( realization of Allah's demands and fulfilling his covenants)

Pi

Survivaholism is a subset of Dunyaholism, anyway you skin it, there is no excuse for staying in the rat race to the point that we forget to focus on purpose of life, poverty at times can lead to Kufr.

Salaam aleykum

Nuri..it is good how you break it down. The prophet (saw) said:

The love of the world is the root of all evil. This world is a prison for the Faithful, but a Paradise for unbelievers. The world is a magician greater than Harut and Marut, and you should avoid it. The world is sweet in the heart, and green to the eye; and verily God hath brought you, after those that went before you: then look to your actions, and abstain from the world and its wickedness. The world is as a prison and as a famine to Muslims; and when they leave it you may say they leave famine and a prison. Be in the world like a traveller, or like a passer on, and reckon yourself as of the dead. Cursed is this world and cursed is all that is in this world, except the rememberance of God and that which aids thereto."

We the human race living on this planet Earth are under the perception that we belong here, that this is our residence and home. We do not know or we do not want to know the fact or decree that we are on a train, a train which is taking us through to another final destination. We do not want to accept that this world is only one of these stops in one of these stations. We do not belong here. We have a ticket which has three slips.

We live in the womb for more or less nine months and then when we come out one slip is torn from the ticket. Then we live in this world prepared for us by our Creator for a little moment and when we die the second slip from the ticket is torn out. And then we have one ticket left. This last ticket will be torn out either at the gates of Jahannam or Jannah, the final destination. We do not belong here, and we need to believe that we do not belong here. We are travelling and that is why Muhammad sallallahu aleihi wassallam said about this world: "Be in this world as if you are travellers". The example of an analogy of me and this world is somebody who is travelling in the desert and then saw a tree, so he took some shade under this tree and then took some rest and then continued with his journey. That means that in this world we spend a few moments under this "tree" and then we keep on moving to the next station which is death and the grave until the Hour. The next station is the Hour which is the first stage of the Major Day of Judgment.

and it goes on...

Camabaro sis

Indeed, sis, we are but travellers on the highway of life, as we drive down life's highway though, we need to be able to plan the course we are taking, take the neccessary fuel, partners, Akhira 3D visualization frames and glasses, stay sober by not being a Dunyaholic, so that if the COP ( Constables On Patrol Angels) stop us, we can walk the sobriety line straight, which is a pre-requisite to passing the test of the final line in Akhira known as SIRAAT Highway.
