Puntland Fisheries Minister Resigns

Garowe (PP News Desk) — Puntland Minister for Fisheries and Marine Resources Mr Mohamud Hagi Salah has resigned.

In the resignation letter the Minister states that he had fallen out with Puntland President Said Abdullahi Deni over the management of the Ministry. Disagreements over financial management had surfaced shortly after he was appointed.

Puntland Post reported that Salah was planning to resign following the decision of Puntland Vice President to suspend the Minister and the Director General of the Ministry from work.

Puntland Fisheries and Marine Resources Ministry faces budgetary constraints despite Garowe granting fishing licenses to foreign vessels.

“The outgoing Minister asked for clarity on how revenues from fishing licenses have been managed. Puntland fisheries sector had undergone productivity decline” said a former employee of the Ministry, who asked for anonymity.
