A Motion of No Confidence Against Puntland Parliamentary Speaker Nibbed in the Bud

Garowe (PP News Desk) — More than thiry five Puntland Parliament MPs have signed a motion to remove some MPs who had criticised the Parliamentary Speaker Abdirashid Yusuf Jibril.

Opposition MPs were reportedly planning a motion of No Confidence against the Speaker but were last night separately persuaded to toe the Speaker’s line in return for some favours.

Payback time: Abdirashid Y. Jibril tries to turn tables on MPs who have plotted to unseat him.

A twice postponed parliamentary session is scheduled to take place at Puntland Parliament premises today. Troops were deployed at streets near the parliament.

“It is a waste of time to organise a motion and counter motion. Neither side has a solid case to submit a motion. What MPs can debate at session has been turned into an exercise to abuse Puntland parliamentary procedures” said a former Puntland Parliament MP.
