Will a Somali be a hero for Sudanese people? Looks like it.

Recommended Posts

Mahmoud Dirir is a prominent politician from Kililka, educated in Syria, was minister during Meles Zinawi days and sent to Egypt as Ambassador when the Nile issue heated up. He played a major role in bringing Sudan to Ethiopian side on Nile. He showed Sudanese that their national interest is in supporting GERD.

In Ethiopian politics Mahmoud Dirir was leader of Somali democratic league that later united with WSLF and 4 others to form Somali Peoples Democratic Party that is governing party in Kililka now. He was on the list of prominent Somalis to be eliminated by Aweys and Co. It was easy for him to support the removal of any organization that Awys leads, since the same list was carried to ICU and Shabab.

Now the Sudanese people are under total assault from each corners big and small. Al Bashir visit to Syria and restoring Syria in Arab league was the last nail.

Now from America to Horn of Africa wants to get in its own group to power. Some have hired demonstrators Ukraine style, Some have snipers Ukraine style, Some are innocent who want a better Sudan.

Mohamed Dirir must be under tremendeous pressure from Abiy (to support what Afwerki wants which is total cleanup of any religiosity in Sudan Government and never support from Sudan to anyone against Afwerki), America that wants total kicking out of Russia, China. Israel that wants Sudan to be just another obedient Arab country. Egypt with list of demands from Nile to the brotherhood and more..the western saying the Vultures can smell blood goes here.

Will Mohmoud Dirir Succeed? What do you think?

Sudan’s rivals to resume talks on Sovereign Council soon: Ethiopian mediator

June 11, 2019 (KHARTOUM) - The ruling Transitional Military Council (TMC) and the opposition Forces for Freedom and Change (FFC) have agreed to resume talks on the Sovereign Council and to cease escalation, said the Ethiopian mediator Mohamoud Dirir on Tuesday.

Opposition officials leaked that the TMC in its meetings with Dirir agreed to give the presidency of the collegial presidential body to the civilians together with the majority of seats, after refusing during the past weeks.

In a press conference held on Tuesday, the special envoy of the Ethiopian Prime Minister said he held separate discussions with the TMC head Ahmed al-Burhan and the FFC leaders to facilitate the resumption of talks on the remaining sticking points.

In addition, he said the two sides agreed to "refrain from inflammatory statements" and create a conducive environment before the resumption of talks.

The TMC "agreed to take confidence-building measures including the release of Political Prisoners" and the FFC "agreed to call-off the Civil-Disobedience," he added.

Following the attack on the main site of protest on 3 June and the killing of over 100 people, the opposition suspended sine die the talks and declared open-ended general protest to force the army to leave power.

On Monday, the military council admitted that some military personnel have been involved in the bloody attack on the sit-in of pro-democracy protesters and pledged to release the finding of its investigation committee within 72 hours.

For its part, the FFC announced the temporary suspension of the general strike starting from Wednesday but called on its neighbourhood committees to continue the mobilisations for the resumption of the strike.

The three-day strike was largely followed by the Sudanese and allowed the opposition to show its strong popular support.

In their previous discussions, the two sides agreed that during the three-year transitional period the county will be ruled by a collegial presidency, and a government of technocrats to achieve democratic and economic reforms and an appointed parliament with a majority of 67% to the FFC.

Dan laan walahi. Who cares about Sudan? Let it burn. It is non of your or our business.

I have never seen or met or heard a Somali that wishes ill on the Sudanese.

Either you are the first Somali I see this or you are not a Somali at all.

Even ICU never spoke or commented on Sudan, when Sudan had committed to support the outcome of conference in Kenya among Somali groups, warlords.., if necessary even militarily for its implementation.

Looks like he will.

There is just so many forces wealthy and powerful arrayed against his efforts. The Turkish are also extremely busy and tied up at home and in Syria. Arabs even Egypt are taking advantage of this window where Turkish cannot do much to help.

I always laugh when I see arab refugees in the west. Let them burn their countries. They have always supported enemies of Somalis.

Does not matter weather sudanese, Syrians or Libyans.

Are you Sudanes? What has Sudan got to do with Somalis?

I expect anytime to see civil war in Sudan and to watch it on youtube.

Sudan allowed work permit, resdence and scholarships to Somalis that made it that far during the civil war and also later to this day

Sudan tried to reconcile ICU and TFG, but ICU had supporters like Eritrea and Egypt and was confident will kill the TFG in Jowhar or Baydaba and rejected the negotiations.

TFG and Warlords had agreed for Sudan, Djibouti, Yemen to come and help and Ethiopia to stay in Border areas and be only support and help only in emergencies. Sudanese and Djibouti were to be commanders and Yemen was to get into Mugadishu and work from that side.

War Lords reneged once they went to their clans in Mugadishu and the whole thing fell apart.

Yemen was first to send and open embassy if you remember.

Sudan has never wronged the Somali people.

This last one is very important. Every western and Arab country has a group or messenger.

There are more than 100 political parties in Ethiopia, some of them 3 friends with brief case, but supported by some country.

Somalia should institute a rule that anyone to be minister and above has to have lived in Somalia for 2 years prior unless he/she was Ambassador or similar.

Countries should take lesson from Ahmed Chalabi of Iraq.

Sudanese that have Egyptian, Eritrean, American, British...citizenship are demanding power sharing more than anything they deserve.

We pray for the Sudanese. THey are our brothers.

Certainly the Arab nations and their leaders are cursed. It is the only place in the world where leaders are murdering their citizens for sport. Look at Venezuela, Ukraine, and other places? despite the hardships no one is shooting an unarmed civilians.

Ilaahay sharkooda ha ina dhaafiyo.

some thirty years ago they sent to us the violent WAhabi sect to our country and we are trying liberate from them since.

If I am not mistaken that was late Turabi whose government Al Bashir overthrew, that wanted to change the HoA.

The Sudanese even tried to find peaceful solution to the TFG and ICU conflict. Did not succeed.

They were also ready with a Brigade to come and help the re-establishment of Government, that also did not work.

The best thing they did was they gave residence permits, some scholarships, work permits, UN travel documents..etc.

Poor Mohamud Dirir facing corrupt and undignified Africans representing assignments from France, Britain, US, UAE ..anyone that can spare few pennies to corrupt them.

Abiy is also undermining Mahmoud Dirir, because of UAE and Eritrea. Abiy talks the good talk, but not solidly supporting M. Dirir.

African Union, IGAD envoys at odd over Sudan’s transitional authority

June 19, 2019 (KHARTOUM) - African Union Envoy and the IGAD Mediator for Sudan are at odds over the formation of civilian-led authority in Sudan as their difference may further complicate the situation in Khartoum, said sources close to the file said.

On 6 June the African Union’s Peace and Security Council (PSC) suspended Sudan’s membership at the regional body in order to put pressure on the ruling Transitional Military Council (TMC) to hand over power to a civilian government after the bloody raid on the pro-democracy sit-in area that resulted in the death of over 100 protesters.

Further, based on the principle of subsidiarity tasked the east African bloc of IGAD and its Chair the Ethiopian Prime Minister to mediate between the Sudanese stakeholders "with a view to speedily establish a civilian-led Transitional Authority in Sudan".

Immediately after the visit of the Ethiopian Prime Minister to Khartoum on 8 June, the African Union Chairperson and Chadian diplomat issued a statement to express his deep appreciation for "the close collaboration between IGAD and the AU Special Envoy Mohamed El Hacen Lebatt "to bring the Sudanese parties to the negotiating table.

Reliable sources close to the file in Addis Ababa told Sudan Tribune that Lebatt seeks to hamper the mission of the Ethiopian mediator Mahmoud Dirir as he continues to work in solo in a way to affirm his role in Khartoum.

Lebatt and Dirir now have different views on the position to adopt vis-à-vis the military junta in Khartoum and "how to establish a civilian-led authority in Sudan," said the source which preferred anonymity due to the sensitivity of the issue.

Lebatt backs the view that the military council can hand over power to any civilian government the junta can pick to lead the country during an agreed transitional period and to task it with the preparation of general elections, according to the source.

While Dirir believes that the African Union should back the deal struck by the military council and the opposition Forces for Freedom and Change (FFC) who led the protest movement before the al-Bashir collapse, he added.

If the African Union backs the military council and did not broker an acceptable for the two parties that may lead to the continuation of protests and political instability in the country, and also discredits the regional organisation, the source further stressed.

The military council in Khartoum is speaking about the formation of a caretaker government, as the political forces that were allied to al-Bashir’s regime are now regrouping and forming new political entities calling to involve them in the transitional institutions.

The IGAD Council of Ministers will convene an extraordinary on Sudan Wednesday 19 June to discuss the political crisis in Sudan as the junta says they want to control the collegial presidency and refuses to give it to the FFC.

The former Mauritanian foreign minister worked in the past as AU envoy for the Central African Republic, from February 2016 to August 2017.

With the continuation of the CAR’s conflict, Lebatt was replaced by a Burkina Faso diplomat and he had been appointed as a Special Adviser to the Chairperson of the AU Commission, in charge of Strategic Issues.
