Hargeisa, 5 April 2009 (somalilandpress) - The leader of Kulmiye opposition party, Mr. Ahmed Mohamoud Siilaanyo called his supporters for a peaceful demonstration throughout the country tomorrow. The party accused the government of blocking all the hotels in order Kulmiye to organize an event to welcome a new supporters. In front of Crown Hotel and under a big tree, Mr. Siilaanyo said the party will do a huge but peaceful rallies in all the Somaliland cities tomorrow. Mr. Sillaanyo accused the government of breaking the constitution by postponing the elections. He said the party will not tolerate such acts and his supporters should show their loyalty to the party’s decision. In the other hand, the government has been warning against any illegal and violence demonstration since the past few days saying the general security should not be harmed. Speaking in International Mine Action Day yesterday, the Vice President of Somaliland, Mr. Ahmed Yusuf Yassin said the Guurti have the constitutional right to extend the government’s term and called the electoral commission to set a new date according to the Guurti’s decision. Many mediation attempts from different sides have failed during the last couple of weeks when each side did not show any compromise from their decisions.

I believe N Korea is the representative of Russia in the region and the only thing they're doing this is to put a pressure on NATO about the missile defence project led by the US. There is kinds hiden/secret alliences for the moment which consist of Russia, Iran and N Korea. What i see from the news is they have this secret exchange of Nuklear information.

MOGADISHU, Somalia (AP) — A man who calls himself an American promotes holy war in Somalia in a video posted this week on an Islamic militant Web site. A U.S. government contractor who tracks extremist propaganda says the footage is the first to show what may be an American with a senior role in al-Shabab, a Somali group the State Department considers a terrorist organization with links to al-Qaida. The half-hour video features an amateur English-language rap soundtrack and purports to show an operation against Ethiopian troops in Somalia. It appeared on Web sites where al-Qaida and other militant groups often post messages and videos. A caption says it was filmed on July 15, 2008. A tall man with long dark hair and a wide smile who appears to be in his 20s and gives his nom de guerre as "Abu Mansour al-Amriki," or "the American," urges Muslims around the world to send their children to replace his group's fallen fighters. "If you can encourage more of your children, and more of your neighbors, and anyone around you to send people ... to this jihad, it would be a great asset for us," he says. Al-Amriki speaks English with a North American accent and reads verses from the Quran in fluent classical Arabic. He appears to be of European or possibly Arab descent but it was impossible to independently confirm his nationality or where the video was filmed. The man appears in a scrubby rural clearing filled with short trees and dust. There are few identifying markers indicating he is in Somalia, though several of his companions appear to be Somalis. In the Somali capital, Mogadishu, a former fighter, Mohamed Muqtar, said he had met the man more than two years ago in the Islamist stronghold of Kismayo, Somalia's third-largest town. "This is the same man, the American man, I saw in Kismayo two years ago when I was being trained there," he said. "This man was training us how to make land mines and explosives." He could give no details on how he was able to identify the man. Farhan Haji, another former fighter who lives in Mogadishu pointed to the green shrubbery in the tape and said it did not look like Somalia. "This could be a Hollywood actor anywhere in the world," Haji said. Another English speaker does not appear on the tape but raps over a track of Islamic devotional songs. "Bomb by bomb, blast by blast, only going to bring back the glorious past," the man chants atonally. "Mortar by mortar, shell by shell, I'm only gonna stop when I send them to hell." Ben Venzke, director of IntelCenter, the U.S. contractor that tracks extremist propaganda, told the AP that the video appears to be authentic. "It was done in the same manner that all their releases are done," he said. "We have absolutely no reason to believe it's anything but an authentic (al-Shabab) video." California-born Adam Gadahn has appeared prominently in al-Qaida videos in the role of a top propagandist. Gadahn, who goes by the nom de guerre of Abu Azzam al-Amriki, has appeared in videos talking about the defeat of America in Iraq and other battlefields with jihadists and urging Americans to convert to Islam. He has been indicted on treason charges, and the FBI has put a $1 million reward on him, calling him "an integral part of al-Qaida's media and recruitment branch." It is not known, however, if Gadahn has ever played a leadership role in al-Qaida. Some members of the thriving Somali community in Minneapolis and St. Paul have reported being questioned by the FBI as it investigates whether some young men are being "radicalized" in Minnesota and recruited to fight with terror groups in their homeland. "This is the first time an American has been shown in a leadership/senior role advising/teaching a group of jihadists," IntelCenter said in an e-mailed analysis. "This is a significant development and likely to be indicative of other developments within the group." Islamic groups in Somalia coalesced into a loose alliance with some clan militias to fight an insurgency against troops from predominantly Christian Ethiopia. The government had called in the Ethiopians to oust an umbrella Islamist group that held most of southern Somalia and Mogadishu for six months until December 2006. Under an intricate peace deal the United Nations mediated, the Ethiopians withdrew in January and moderate Islamic leader Sheik Sharif Sheik Ahmed was elected president that month. The weak government Ahmed took over in January controls virtually no territory and is struggling to prove its legitimacy, though Ahmed has been welcomed by influential Islamic clerics in this predominantly Muslim country. Ahmed's allies, however, control much of central and pockets of southern Somalia. The more hardline Islamist elements Ahmed split from last year such as al-Shabab, control most of southern Somalia.

The security forces of the Republic of Somaliland arrested a religious preacher to question him after he reportedly called people to come against the government. Sheikh Abdillahi Mohamoud was arrested Friday evening from his house and still remain in custody. Sources close to the Police told Somalilandpress that the Sheikh as been calling a religious war against Somaliland government saying they have the best chance now to wage war against Somaliland during the political crisis in the country. Police said Sh. Abdillahi will be questioned about the issue. Somaliland has been hit by a political crisis since last week when the Guurti announced that they extended the government’s term for about 6 months. This has created a tension among the population and the security forces are careful that Extremists might benefit the situation and carry out terror attacks against the government institutions. The Somaliland minister of Foreign of Affairs, Mr Abdillahi Mohamed Duale, addressed on Thursday an international gathering of government officials, diplomats, business people and academics taking part in the ‘State of Sovereignty’ conference held at the prestigious International Boundaries Research Unit (IBRU) of Durham University in the city of Durham, United Kingdom. The 3-day international IBRU conference brought together a diverse group of delegates and speakers from over 53 countries. The conference was designed to address the practical implications of boundary making, boundary management and dispute resolution, which officially opened Wednesday 1st April 2009 Somaliland’s Foreign minister, Mr Duale, on day two of the conference, gave a two-hour long presentation which ended with a Q&A session. The minister described the history of the State of Somaliland and how, since his country’s independence in 1991, Somaliland has moved forward as an independent and sovereign country to create a stable democratic society in a region afflicted with instability, wars and conflict. The minister’s paper titled “A Sovereign State for Somaliland & What it means for the Horn of Africa” illustrated that ‘Somaliland has fulfilled all the standard criteria for the establishment of a sovereign state and international recognition’ and argued that ‘with the attainment of sovereignty Somaliland could accelerate its development and help to add stability to the region.’ Following his presentation, the Foreign Minister speaking to conference journalists covering the 3-day event said, the conference provided him and his delegation the ideal opportunity to meet and hold discussions with a wide range of fellow participants including those from the African Union, UK Foreign and Commonwealth Office, US State Department plus numerous international experts in the field of international boundary disputes and sovereignty issues. “I’m very much grateful and pleased to have taken part in this important forum and be given the opportunity to explain our side of events. Definitely, its been very beneficial for my country to get to know so many foreign government departments, their officials and delegates at this conference, which I believe, will certainly assist us in our ultimate goal of achieving sovereignty status,” said, Mr Abdillahi Mohamed Duale, the Somaliland minister of Foreign Affairs. Conference organisers, IBRU said, they invited Somaliland’s Foreign Minister to speak at the conference as his country’s long pursuit for sovereignty provided an ideal, real – world example of the difficulties facing certain states during their quest for sovereignty status and world recognition. The ‘State of Sovereignty’ conference is celebrating the 20th anniversary of boundary studies at IBRU, a department of Durham University. The conference ends on Friday, 3rd April 2009.

Somaliland bashing has recent been the game of a few self-exiled elements whose main objective is to derail the progress of the people of Somaliland. These individuals are using Wardheernews.com as their mouthpiece for cheap propaganda against Somaliland. The same individuals tried and successfully corrupted the now defunct ISRAAC organization for their personal interests. However, most Somaliand supporters choose to ignore this group simply because for Somaliland and its people the time for Fadhi Ku dirir is over. For them it is time for democratization, despite all the setbacks, and economic reconstruction. Furthermore, the more Somaliland makes progress, the more this group gets desperate. For instance, Abdalla Hirad, someone well known for his Somaliland bashing, wrote an article in Hiiraan.online on which he claims as follows and I quote: "The concern about the position of "Somaliland" in the mix of things, at this juncture, if at all, should be minimal and should be shoved to the back bench. It is true that there are some governments who are sympathetic towards the position of "Somaliland". "Somaliland" will, however, cease to exist if a popular uprising erupts in the North, any way, which is about the only good thing that the "Islamists" can bring about, short of a disaster to Somalia." As you can sense from his writing, Mr. Hirad is so desperate that he believes Al Shabab is the only force that can stop Somaliland's progress. According to his hate-mongering argument, it would be beneficial to Somalia if the deadly terrorists of Al-Shabab take over the control of peaceful Somaliland. The only thing that Al Shabab brought to Somalia is nothing but death and destruction. Therefore, Somaliland is better off without Al Shabab. Moreover, the current leaders of Al Shabab have fled from Somaliland as they could not get there a fertile ground to propagate their deviant ideology. The people of Somaliland have numerous times derailed their attempt to destabilize the democratization process. In addition, this group led by, Abdalla Hirad and Faysal Roble, use Al Shabab threat of suicide bombing to blackmail international community's impending recognition of Somaliland. One of their press release states and I quote: "The religious/nationalis t backlash to this conspiracy against Somalia would eclipse the nation-wide opposition to the Ethiopian occupation. The recent Al-Shabaab suicide bombings in Somaliland are a harbinger of what is to come. This folly would only radicalise the Somalis and present Al-Shabaab a God-sent opportunity to galvanise its Jihaad against what it sees as the enemy of Somalia and Islam. It would be assured of immediate and limitless adherents and followers to its cause. Better not play with fire in Somalia less an unintended conflagration engulfs the Horn along ethnic and religious lines. And beyond the region, the rest of Africa is equally vulnerable to the Pandora Box that would open pursuant to Somaliland's recognition. Every dissident region or clan in Africa would follow Somaliland's example. It is for this reason that the African Union is deadly against secession. Honourable Minister, David Miliband, would do well to reflect on these dire consequences and not allow himself carried away by that old colonial instinct of divide and rule." NSUM Executive Committee (03 March 2009) Somaliland and its people are determined to develop their country. No threat from terrorists of Al Shabab and its supporters will stop them from their journey to democratization and economic liberalization. However, contrary to what detractors have to say, Somaliland's progress is not a threat to the existence of Somalia. Rather, an internationally recognized Somaliland will contribute to the security of the region by helping fellow Somalis in the Italian Somalia to reconcile with themselves. Moreover, fellow Somalis are always welcome to live in Somaliland as many of them have already moved there after recent wars in Mogadishu. If tiny Jibouti could organize a platform for Somalia's politicians to negotiate, what do you expect from a recognized Somaliland? I firmly believe that Somaliland has the key to help resolve political problems in the Italian-Somalia provided Somaliland is a recognized country first. Unless Somaliland is recognized, it cannot risk its political stability by meddling in the internal affairs of Italian Somalia. In conclusion, most Somalis may not like Somaliland to gain international recognition but sincerely appreciate the progress that people of Somaliland have made for the last decade or so. The Somaliland haters are indeed very few individuals who had long been the beneficiary of the regime of Siad Barre but cannot let go the lost glory and privilege. They blame Somaliland people for masterminding the destruction of that evil regime which singlehandedly dismantled the Somali people's unity, solidarity and sense of nationhood. Hargeisa, 3 April 2009 (somalilandpress) – Since the Upper House of the parliament known as Guurti extended the governments term until end of October 2009, there have been many reactions from the two sides of the Somaliland population either supporting and rejecting the decision. The main opposition party, Kulmiye said the Guurti has not the mandate to set the date of the elections and so the other opposition party, UCID who is in his side said although the respect the Guurti members for their past efforts but still they believe the last decision was unconstitutional. The government said the Guurti has made the right decision and the opposition should follow it. On the other hand, there have been contradicting calls from the population living in the Somaliland regions. Some are supporting the government and others opposing it. Others showed their neutrality and called for negotiations. The chairman of the Parliament, Mr. Abdillahi Irro said the Guurti have the constitutional mandate to extend the governments term and called both sides for talks in order to reach a consensus. In a press conference, the Kulmiye party said they will not recognize the government after the 6th of April when the last extension is ended. They called to create a caretaking government in order to prepare the elections. They also called to create committees from all the sides to manage the government media, the financial resources and the public properties. The government in its side rejected the Kulmiye call and said there will be no caretaking government and only an elected President can take over the Presidential seat. They said the Guurti have the constitutional mandate to extend the government’s term and thus the government will still be legitimate until the elections take place. The electoral committee who set the election date on the 31st of May did not talk to the media about this crisis. Reports say there have been discussions among the committees members to set a new date according to the new extension set by the Guurti. The opposition worried about the electoral committee might side with the government. Since this new crisis, there have been mediations going on between the two sides by some prominent Somalilanders in order to calm the situation down. Many traditional leaders, businessmen and politicians have been meeting all the sides in order to reach a positive consensus to avoid any violence during this period. A government official accused the opposition of forming their own government after the 6th of April in Burao and said the country will go under an emergency situation if that happens. Some media outlets supporting the opposition said the government is planning to put the Kulmiye leaders in a house arrest after the 6th of April. UCID, the other opposition party said they are ready to mediate between the two sides to avoid any chaos in the country. They said they are confident that both sides will be ready for talks during the coming few days. Another political party called UDHIS which was formed a week ago but not yet registered said today that they are ready to mediate between the government and the opposition. Although the leaders of this party are prominent people in Somaliland but there is still a question about their ability to mediate between the two sides while the government see them as an illegal party. Sources close to both sides told Somalilandpress that both sides are now ready for a compromise and the current crisis might end in the coming days. They said there are indirect talks going on between the opposition and government at the moment.
