  1. Salafi_Online, It is indeed Ali bin Abu Talib (RA), gotten from the Nahj al-balaghah. Baashi, I understand what you are saying sxb. I have a friend who was recently trying to explain to me about hadrons and quarks and that seemed far fethced for me but it is basic knowledge to the scientists of today. We are unable to attain complete, comprehensive and profound knowledge of Allah (SWT), but that does not mean we are deprived of any form of knowledge. Allah (SWT) says in the Holy Qura'n... "Did man emerge from non-being through his own devices? Was he his own creator? Did mankind create the heavens and earth? Certainly they do not know God." (Qur'an 52:35-36) This verse challenges us to think about how we came about to this world and acknowledgesthe powers of the Creator. Allah (SWT) also says... "Your God is but one God. There is nogod other than Him, Compassionate and Merciful. In the aeation of the heavens and the earth, in the alternation of night and day, in the ships that ply the seas to the benefit of man, in the water sent down from the heavens to revive the earth after its death, in the different species of animals scattered across the earth, in the rotation of the winds, in the clouds that are subordinate to God's command between heaven and earth, in all of this, there are signs for men who use their intellects." (2:163-164) "Tell men to reflect with care and see what things the heavens and the earth contain." (Qura'n 10:101) Allah (SWT) wants us to reflect and draw conclusions. There are numerosu verses in the The Holy Qura'n which tells us about our Creator... "He is God, the One other than Whom there is no god, the knower of the hidden and the manifest, the Compassionate, the Merciful. He is God, the One other than Whom there is no god, the Commander, the All-powerful, Pure and Without Defect, the Bestower of Safety, the Protector, the Precious, the Mighty, the Sublime, the Most Elevated. Exempt and purified be He from the partners which they ascribe to Him."(Qura'n 59:22-23) I would like to say the Essence of Allah is unknown, but aren't we disregarding something very important here? We might not be able to comprehend Allah (SWT) fully, but I think that we should not be discouraged from using the little capacity of comprehension we have.
  2. Understanding Allah (SWT) can be so difficult to some of us but maybe simple for others to grasp. Every generation of human beings have pondered on the nature of The Divine Essense... - He is with everything but not in the sense of [physical] nearness. He is different from every thing but not in the sense of separation. - He is not inside things in the sense of physical [pervasion or] penetration, and is not outside them in the sense of [physical] exclusion [for exclusion entails a kind of finitude]. - He is distinct from things because He overpowers them, and the things are distinct from Him because of their subjection to Him. - He is the One, but not in a numerical sense. - He is not confined by limits nor counted by numbers. - He who points to Him, admits for Him limitations; and he who admits limitations for Him has numbered Him. - He who qualifies Him limits Him. He who limits Him numbers Him. He who numbers Him denies His pre-eternity. - Everything associated with unity is deficient except Him. By...Imam Ali (RA) Suratul Ikhlaas states the foremost and fundamental doctrine of Islam (viz. Tawheed) in four such brief sentences as are immediately impressed on human memory and can be read and recited easily. It came at a time when people were idolatrous polytheists and Christians and Jews believed The messiah and Ezra to be sons of God. 1. Say: He is Allah, the One and Only; 2. Allah, the Eternal, Absolute; 3. He begetteth not, nor is He begotten; 4. And there is none like unto Him. Surah Ikhlaas 112. The Unity, Sincerity, Oneness Of Allah. I feel like I can understand the nature of Allah (SWT), but then at the same moment I feel I can't. It's a total sense of ambivalence on my side which continues to fluctuate, no matter how much I reflect.
  3. No offense, but I actually thought you had something better to come up with. Your 'two cents' CAN NOT be Islamic Law. Anyhow, now I know better.
  4. Kuwait City (if that's where you are from telling from the picture) probably has some wannabes of a bad boy in the Al-Sabah family, who wear baggy khamiis and smoke shisha instead of ganja  DA you rock, you see their language changed we most doing some thing right, no need to change our tactic in near future keep the good job girl LOL...Unless you suffer from ADHD, you'll realise that I haven't changed my language and you still haven't adressed the issue at hand.
  5. LOL@SHOBAROO, he probably got them characteristics. somalsijui, You don't need any documents because you still have the scorpion marks from Garissa Since you also confuse P's and B's, maybe you also assuringly say 'p- for pen' whenever you say a word that starts with a P. PS: Your signature is from Bob Marley, why write Homer Simpson?
  6. Em, No! I am not Shi'a sxb. I just said Qom because most of our institutions have been infiltrated by the kufaar. Even Al-Azhar, which is the first university in the world and a very respectable institution for Muslims was infiltrated by Napoleon after Cairo fell to him. A fatwa was even issued by scholars of Al-Azhar, claiming that he was the long awaited Mahdi.
  7. "Bani Israil was ruined because of this. They applied law to the poor and forgave the rich." ...and we are doing the same mistake today. Interesting read sxb, thx.
  8. Em, May Allah (SWT) bless her. Originally posted by juxa: i wont get MARRIED! Man that is sad! I'd probably move to Qom and take up theology
  9. OG, Why do you think that the money a woman earns is HER OWN while the husband is supposed to feed the family? Why does she get the right to choose whether she'll contribute or not while the man is obliged to support the whole family? The household is the responsibility of the mother, that's why the man has the responsibility of being the bread-winner. It doesn't mean that she is the maid; she can hire a maid (or two) but it's her area of responsibility unless they agree on otherwise. The mothers shall give suck to their offspring for two whole years if the father desires to complete the term. But he shall bear the cost of their food and clothing on equitable terms. No soul shall have a burden laid on it greater than it can bear. No mother shall be treated unfairly on account of her child nor father on account of his child. An heir shall be chargeable in the same way if they both decide on weaning by mutual consent and after due consultation there is no blame on them. If you decide on a foster mother for your offspring there is no blame on you provided you pay (the mother) what you offered on equitable terms. But fear Allah and know that Allah sees well what you do. (Qur'an 2:233) The mother also takes care of the children (unless they agree otherwise) and if a divorce is pending, she gets to keep the children until the age of seven. Thereafter the children can choose whom they want to live with. Since you study Islamic Law, could you explain why the mother gets to keep the children for the first seven years if the role of men and women are supposed to be the same? A man came to Our Noble Prophet Muhammad (PBUH)asking: O Messenger of Allah, who among the people is the most worthy of my good companionship? The Prophet said, your mother. The man said then who is next: the Prophet said, Your mother. The man further asked, Then who is next? Only then did the Prophet say, Your father. (Bukhari) Now why do you think this Hadith elevates the mother more than the father? Do they have more love and affection for their offsprings that the fatehrs? You said... If you talking about cooking and cleaning, as Ameenah already said " seems u did not read for her" is " out of love , care, respect" in other word out of " rahmah and mawadah"... Did Allah (SWT) create the mothers with more love and caring for their children? If Allah (SWT) did, don't you think that it will be unfair to expect the same level of caring and affection from a man? Just out of curiousity...why would a woman who studies such elevated studies as Islamic Sharia want to be an 'original gangster'? Are you too fond of Ice T.?
  10. It's good to have Swahili instead of using the colonialists' language. The Francophone and the Anglophone have always been in conflict. Nyerere must be smiling!
  11. OG, MashaAllah! It's admirable to see a sister study Islamic Law, I wish you all the best. The absurd thing here is, you don't acknowledge that man and woman have set roles and responsibilities in the family. Islamic families have a patriachial setting. That doesn't mean that the man overruns the wife with his decisions but he is the 'leader' of the household. The rules for responsibilities are not rigid and as I said earlier; They can share the responsibilities though; they can both work (earning money) and do the chores together. But the money the woman earns is HERS. She can decide whether to contribute to the family budget or not. Now, I can provide you with countless hadiths, links and list of book to support my stand, what do you have to prove your stand? Do you have any daliil that says that... Woman's respobsibilities are same as men's responsibilities Our Noble Prophet (PBUH) said; Paradise is under the feet of your mothers. Would he have said this if indeed the mother and father had the same role?
  12. PS: I have another four years to go to reach that "dreaded" age of becoming- 30. Kuishi kwingi ni kuona mengi. Waswahili husema; Maskini akipata, matako hulia mbwata. Luqmaan 31:18
  13. Viking, Bro, cleaning and taking care of house holds is not women's " Responsibilities" . Woman's respobsibilities are same as men's responsibilities "except" talking care of growing up "MEN". If you want some one to take care of your house hold get a " maid" as simple as that. OG, I am not playing jingoist here or trying to 'put women in their place'. Men and women have different roles according to Islam, please find out what they are if you don't believe me. Don't just blurt out what you think sounds 'fair' and make it Islamic Law.
  14. "Wa sharrul Umoori Muhdathaatuhaa, Wa kulla Bid'atin dhaialah, wa kulla dhalatin fin-naar" Al-Hadith (Sahih Muslim).
  15. I have read Sophiests posts' for the past 3-4 years and no one is denying that he is a well read bro. But I have always critisized his antiquated lingo because 99% of the visitors of these boards don't understand what he is trying to convey. One should indeed write as they please, but Sophiest seems to be making an extra effort NOT to be understood. And that makes life difficult for people like me who haven't gone to Oxford or/and have English as a third language. So sxb, please naga qalee oo inoo jilci af ingiriisiga noh.
  16. Q, What do you mean by the following, “Only the supra-rational states can show you things "as they really are"”? Is not that just saying, I do not know and I might never know, in a fancy way. Our Noble Prophet (PBUH) is said to have prayed to Allah (SWT) saying; O Allah! show me things as they really are. The gnostics use this prayer constantly, asking to see the dimensions and reality that are normally hidden from the view of mankind. This is viewed as 'reality' (seeing things as they really are) and is seen as a way of getting in touch with the divine. This is mainly a Sufi approach but also shared by the Shi'a.
  17. Woman is not her job to cook and clean for men, that is another myth too but the truth she doesn't have to, but she can do it for her husband and that is totally her right to refuse. O.G., In islam, the man and the woman have certain responsibilities. The man is to provide for the family and the woman is to take care of the household (cooking, cleaning, etc.). They can share the responsibilities though; they can both work (earning money) and do the chores together.
  18. Q, Thus you spake my friend, thus you spake indeed!
  19. Viking:- Have you inherited your religous beliefs or have you acquired them through rigorous ratiocination Alhamdullilah I was born a Muslim but naturally I had to learn about Islam mainly through the Qur'an and Hadith. I believe that there are two types of knowledge, the revealed and the rational and I did NOT need reason in believing in Allah (SWT) and what he has revelad to us. So, in believing in Allah (SWT), NO ratiocination was required. The universe and all that is in it (knowledge and everything physical) sings praises, showing how Great Allah (SWT) is. Are you a Muslim by choice or chance? I don't believe that anything happens by 'chance', I beleive that everything happens for a reason. If you were born a non-muslim, how would you go about searching for the "True" religon? Only Allah (SWT) knows, all I can do is speculate for I have no clue how I would have been and whether I would have sought the true religion if I was born non-Muslim. But don't forget that Allah (SWT) judges everyone according to their position. The responsibilities of the learned and the analphabets isn't the same, the rich and the poor, the people born in Islam and those born in other religions. Allah (SWT) says in the Holy Qur'an... "O ye wives of the Prophet! Whosoever of you committeth manifest lewdness, the punishment for her will be doubled, and that is easy for Allah. And whosoever of you is submissive unto Allah and His messenger and doeth right, We shall give her her reward twice over, and We have prepared for her a rich provision. (The Qur'an 33:30-31) ...for they cannot be judged just like any other woman. Taqlid and blind faith are necessary for the simple believers whose minds are free of the kind of intellectual curiosity one finds in philosophers and scientists, and who are therefore content to accept things based on the authority of the experts. Doubting taqleed is something that even Al-Ghazzali talks about vastly; In his quest for 'ilmul yaqin', he had doubts (he wasn't a religious sceptic though) and often questionned taqleed. Many people (like you do) question the 'inherited' religious beliefs but forget the fact that not everyone in a society can be philosphers and scientists. The rest have to follow what the 'thinkers' among them have to say about different matters. Curiosity is a good thing, it is even said that Our Noble Prophet (PBUH) said that once we cease to be curious then we cease to be humans. The first words of the Qura'n was IQRA, so I am by no way undermining the importance of knowledge. But there are many Muslim scientists and philospohers who are weak in faith, their field doesn't necessarilly guarantee them elevated imaan. Just out of curiousity...what is your stand and thoughts on Ijtihad? ... there is a supra-rational and supra-logical faculty that is latent within our Being. In the same way that our sense impressions, sense-datum, or sense-preceptions are subordinate to reason, so too reason is subordinate to the supra-rational faculty. The "higher" states of Being are the mystical states of conciousness. This is the state where one experiences the powers of "kashf" (direct vision) and "dhawq" (fruitional experience) Allahumma, Ara'ani kullu shay'in kama hiya.
  20. The signs of the time are really fascinating yet scary. Gog and Magog, the smoke that will bring an ice-age like weather, Al-Mahdi who will lead the fajr prayers with Nabi Cissa (AS) praying behind him, the Masiixu Dajjal being defeated etc. But I feel that my own 'saca' scares me more and is more acute, for it will most definately come before the end of time.
  21. (Watch out, your grandma in Garasbaalley sacrificing a camel to make a big funeral may not do the trick, if that was on your mind) LOOOOOL, there goes my plan! That was funny sxb. Many of us who visit these forums live abroad in non-Muslim countries. If someone died in Helsinki, is his/her sin reduction less compared to someone who died in Khartoum where a large number of people prayed for his/her janaazah? Next, you find yourself in the grave,...the punsiment of the grave begins, the real horror show, you are the actor, and accordingly a lot of yours sins are settled here. I think you should have taken up more about the state of 'Barzakh'. I have a book that deals with the subject and I found it very interesting to say the least. Unfortunately it is a state that isn't talked about much, maybe people would benefit greatly from your contributions on this subject. This topic is very important and I am glad I read it. Don't be discouraged by the number of replies sxb, it says nothing about the number of people who read your topics. On Somalinet, one can see the number of times a post has been viewed. Maybe a feature like that could prove valuable here on SOL. What do you think?
  22. Nur bro, No vice and lots of tears? Count me in.

  24. Now, Kibera has some really fresh fish from Lake Victoria. There's a variety; Akumu mwana wa Kisumu, Atieno running with the night like the night-runner she is, Achieng with the kiuno-cha-mviringo etc. There's the most delicious, curvaceous, freshest and bestest Mbuta with hips formed like the body of a stingray in Kibera So don't be dissin' Kibera dude!
  25. Yes Hibo. The same dude.
