  2. French Captive in Somalia Gains Freedom By JEFFREY GETTLEMAN Published: August 26, 2009 MOGADISHU, Somalia — One of two French security advisers kidnapped in July and then shuttled between feuding militias emerged from captivity here on Wednesday, but the other adviser appeared to still be in the hands of a violent Islamist group, Somali officials said. There were conflicting reports about how the man, who has not been identified by authorities, gained his freedom, with some Somali officials saying he had escaped, and others saying he had been released by his captors after a ransom was paid. The freed man, the Somali officials said, turned up Wednesday morning at the presidential palace here in the war-torn Somali capital, gaunt, pale and heavily bearded, and identified himself to authorities as one of the two men who had been taken at gunpoint from a hotel on July 14. The French Foreign Ministry confirmed that the man was free of his captors. But a Foreign Ministry official stressed that, contrary to some reports, there had been no violence or shooting involved. The official, who declined to give his name because he is not authorized to speak publicly, said no ransom had been paid. The Ministry also underlined that the second hostage remained in captivity. Both of the men, the ministry said, had been working in Somalia on behalf of the French Ministry of Defense to train Somali government forces. For reasons that remain unclear, they had identified themselves as journalists to workers at the hotel where they were staying, creating some initial confusion about their identities. Somali officials said that the men had originally been taken by a pro-government militia, but later, under murky circumstances, they ended up under the control of Hizbul Islam, a Islamist insurgent group fighting the weak transitional government. French officials confirmed that the freed man had been held by that group. To avoid tensions with a more radical Islamist militia, the hostages were split up, a Hizbul Islam leader said in July. The younger, lower ranking French military adviser — the man who was freed — remained with Hizbul Islam, while the older, more senior man was given to al Shabab, considered the most violent and fearsome militia in the country. Somali officials said Wednesday that the freed French adviser said that he had not been mistreated by his captors. After a few days of being held in tight confines, he was given more liberties. Westerners seldom go to Somalia, in part because kidnappings are frequent here. The country has been without a functioning central government since 1991, and is wracked by lawlessness, warfare, corruption, and off its shores, piracy. 3. Al-Shabaab Oo La Dagay Iyo Xisbul Islaam Oo Lala Heshiiyay. Lahaystayashii Faransiiska!!! War degdeg ah oo hada nasoo gaaray ayaa sheegaya in la sii daayay labadii nin ee Faransiiska ahaa ee laga afduubtay hotel Saxafi bishii hore 14keedi. Wararka hor dhaca ah ee ay faafisay dowladda ayaa sheegaya in ninka ay hayeen Al-Shabaab uu kasoo baxsaday kooxdii haysay, uuna soo galay xarunta Villa Somaliya isagoo lugihiisa ku socda, taasoo u muuqatay mid aan ka dhici karin xaalada Muqdisho ay hada ku jirto. Goobo badan ayaa la isku horfadhiyaa dagaal, wayna adag tahay in nin ajnabi ah uu dhex maro goobahaas oo uu lugihiisa ku tago Villa Somaliya oo uusan aqoon dhinac ay ka jirto. Ninka ay hayeen ururka Xisbul Islaam ayaa isaga lagu siidaayay heshiis horay u dhex maray dowladda Faransiiska iyo madaxda Xisbul Islaam. Waxayna u badan tahay in madax furasho lacageed laga dhiibay. Ururka Al-Shabaab ayaa maanta lagu balamiyay in lasiin doono lacagtii ay dalbadeen. Waxase jiray qorshe kale oo qarsoodi ah oo lagula balamay maleeshiyaadka gacanta ku hayay ninkaas, oo si qarsoodi ah loola heshiiyay. Howl galka lagu soo furtay nimankan ayaa waxa ka wada shaqeeyay saraakiil ka tirsan sirdoonka Faransiiska, dowladda Somaliya iyo xubno ka tirsan labada urur ee Al-Shabaab iyo Xisbul Islaam, inkastoo labadan urur midkoodna la siray, midka kalana lala galay heshiis lacageed oo si fudud loo siiyay lacag madax furasho ah. Or could it be some money changed hands and the whole escape scenario is an orchestrated one. a)Did Xisbul Islam and Shabab had this men in captivity? Yes and beyond doubt. b) Can captives under their control escape as detailed in this morning report? No and big NO. Hence it was no secret both extremist groups wanted to trade their captives and at some point and time Shabab wanted to control the whole negotiation by taking both men in their control but Xisbul Islam did not budge and there was a threat of friction among the two. Now these two groups who have mutilated , murdered and maimed hundred of muslims of Somalis on the perception of introducing Islamic Sharia in Somalia would have a difficulty in convincing their followers (Such as Libax) that they traded their Kaffir captives for earthly gains. Thus the escape scenario. Read the story Libax both men escaped from two different places at difference of about an hour and both went to the same point of safety in Mogadishu at difference of thirty minutes or so. So tell me what is the difference of these French men and the many Somalis who were captured and killed cause they worked for a 'murtad' government. Is it because the latter does not have money and the former has it in abundance. Therefore the riding principle of both parties Xisbul Islam and Shabab is not Deen but greed, power and authoritarian under the false impression of being a religious group.

  21. Pakistanis shot at Somali mosque At least five Pakistanis have been killed in a dawn attack at a mosque on the border of Somalia's semi-autonomous Puntland region, witnesses say. Armed men in masks entered a mosque in Galkayo and ordered six Pakistanis and one Somali outside, they said. The gunmen then opened fire, killing five men and seriously injuring two. Those targeted are said to be Muslim preachers. Puntland has been tense recently, but the reason for the latest attack is unclear. The Pakistanis are thought to be missionaries from an Islamic branch called Tabliq who arrived in Galkayo on Tuesday. Warning Correspondents say it is common for groups of foreign preachers to spend several months traveling in Somalia on missionary work. Tabliq is known for its peaceful ministrations and is popular in the war-torn Horn of Africa nation. Somali commentators say its clerics do not talk about politics or law - and strive to avoid controversy. Six religious leaders from the group were killed in the Somali capital, Mogadishu, in 2008, during fighting between Ethiopian troops supporting the government and Islamist militants. In Galkayo, which lies on the boundary of Puntland and south central Somalia, security forces cordoned off the area after the shooting and were conducting house-to-house searches. The country has been without an effective central government since 1991 and has recently been riven by fighting between Islamist insurgents and government troops. The security situation in Puntland has been tense after the recent killing of an information minister. Pirates operating off the Somali coast are based in the northern region, but it has seen less violence than the rest of the country. However, a report from International Crisis Group released on Wednesday warned that if the government did not enact reforms, the region could break up violently. It said friction within the ***** clan had undermined formerly consensual politics in Puntland, meaning that grievances including poverty, poor governance and corruption had not been tackled.
