I wager S/land will not be as damaging to themseles as they were in the last meeting in US

  2. That is Somali for you 'waxna lagama sameysan karo waxnanan ma sameystan'.

If you dont like Universal don't watch it - in fact better establish your own TV channel with your desired ethics and professionalism - untill then be a good viewer.

Nina aso ordayo ma dhalan - Universal is at its early stages and operates with minimum resources, and surely it will gradually and eventually improve with time.

However much it may be below bar in your standards (compared to BBC CNN & SKY) it has on the other hand been much appreciated news and entertainment source for many of the Somali Diaspora.

So you want me to page Sheikh Sharif regarding this issue .......am waiting for his response, hope he decides to pay the fine ..... :D:D

  4. B if this your first ofence you shouldn't worry that much - that is if you dont have a record of fare-evassion .

I also think it was best setteled if you paid the fine and the fare to the inspectors who apprehended you - that would have illiminated you been sent to court.

Still, unless they moved, I think they have offices near Victoria Station - the London Transport Office responsible for penalty fines, go there in person and pay the set fine and fare and be humble and apologise.

Remember taking you to court will also cost them money so if they can settle out of court they will be happy - just dont contest the conviction.

And if the unfortunate thing happens where you are taken to cort always be humble and obedient and look regretful in that way the Magistrate will disreagrd giving you a record in the first offence.

    Wish you luck.

  5. According to more reliable sources than JB - the guy kept changing his name because lacag ayu kala so cararey dad sabool ah oo ku noola Somaliland. Now he is not only wanted in S/land for terrorist charges but also for stealing money entrusted with him.

Now whether he is a spiritual leader of Maadeey or not he is still in the eyes of JB & co. a cheap and low criminal.

  9. UN, agencies should return to Somalia-UN envoy

    By Abdiaziz Hassan

NAIROBI (Reuters) - The United Nations and other international agencies working on Somalia should move to the Horn of Africa nation from neighbouring Kenya to be more effective, the U.N. special envoy to Somalia said.

Most embassies, foreign charitable organisations and the U.N. itself are based in Nairobi due to security concerns in most of Somalia and near-daily gunfights and mortar attacks in the capital.

President Sheikh Sharif Ahmed's government has struggled to establish its influence, which has been whittled down by a three-year insurgency bent on toppling his Western-backed administration that only controls parts of the capital.

"For many years international community members have been based in Nairobi, which means we are not close to the victims. We need to be close to the victims," the United Nation's Ahmedou Ould-Abdallah said in an interview this week.

"We should move to Somalia to respect the country, its people and to be close to the victims."

U.N. headquarters in New York will not allow Ould-Abdallah to relocate his office because of safety fears.

Hundreds of thousands of Somalis have fled the violence to live in Kenya, where they settle in squalid refugee camps or in some suburbs of the capital. Some use the country as a launch pad to Europe, north America and the Middle East.

Nearly half of Somalia's 439 members of parliament are in exile, many living in Nairobi.

    MONEY NOT SPENT IN SOMALIA

The government has received help from more than 5,000 African Union peacekeeping troops that have prevented insurgents, including the al Qaeda-linked al Shabaab group, from overrunning the capital and driving out the government.

However, concerns over corruption and a lack of reliable mechanisms for distributing financial support mean some pledges by Western governments have not always been fulfilled.

Ould-Abdallah said the move by aid organisations to Nairobi had used up money meant for Somalia.

"Legitimate resources mobilised for Somalia are not spent in Somalia and this has to change," he said from his base in the Kenyan capital.

Ould-Abdallah praised Turkey for working to restore Somalia's tarnished image and investing in the anarchic nation.

"Turkey has a fresh attitude towards Somalia, giving a chance to this country and helping reconstruction and development, more importantly, restoring the image of Somalia."

"What they are trying to do, we will see in the next two months," he said, declining to give details. "The world always sees the bad side of Somalia, but Turkey see the good sides."

The Mauritanian diplomat said some countries, especially those in the region, were interfering in Somali affairs for their own economic and social gains.

"I think Somalis should be aware of that, unite their ranks and settle their disputes peacefully," he said.

  10. Supreme Court appears split on Somalia torture case

A former Somali leader living in Virginia is being sued under a law designed to give torture victims a chance to get recompense -- but another law gives immunity to official foreign government actions.

Reporting from Washington - Barre Yousuf, a Somali businessman living in the state of Georgia, spent much of the 1980s in a small, dark and windowless cell in Somalia.

"I was tortured with an electric shock and waterboarded," he said.

At other times, military police subjected him to what the Somali regime called the "Mig." He was forced to lie on his stomach with his arms and legs tied behind him, while a heavy rock was placed on his back. In this painful position, the victim's body was said to resemble the swept-back wings of a Mig fighter jet.

Yousuf recounted his ordeal Wednesday outside the Supreme Court, where the justices for the first time considered whether victims of torture or state-sponsored murder can sue the responsible officials under a 1991 law designed to give victims and family members a chance to get recompense for their suffering.

But Yousuf's suit against former Somali Prime Minister Mohamed Ali Samantar, who now lives in Virginia, ran into another law that prohibits such suits against foreign governments. The Supreme Court justices sounded closely split on whether the law demands accountability for torturers or immunity for official foreign government actions.

Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg said she did not see a problem. "This act is aimed at torturers. The judgment [damages] comes out of his pocket. It would have no effect on the government of Somalia."

Her colleagues also noted that since there was no viable government in Somalia, there was no "sovereign" state entitled to immunity.

But Chief Justice John G. Roberts Jr. and Justice Stephen G. Breyer said that the principle of sovereign immunity would be useless if plaintiffs were free to sue the top officials of the government. "The only way the state can act is through individuals," the chief justice said.

Some legal experts warn that if the U.S. allows suits against foreign officials, courts abroad are likely to allow suits against American officials. For example, President Obama or top Defense Department officials could be sued after they left office by innocent victims of drone strikes in Pakistan or Afghanistan, they said.

These claims tend to be decades in the making. Yousuf fled Somalia in 1989 and settled in the U.S. With the help of the San Francisco-based Center for Justice & Accountability, he sued Samantar in 2004 because Samantar had been Somalia's defense minister and its prime minister in the 1980s.

After the collapse of the dictatorial regime of Mohamed Siad Barre in 1991, Samantar fled Somalia. At 74, he now lives in Fairfax, Va., outside Washington.

Asked why he sued Samantar, Yousuf replied: "He's the highest-ranking Somali official, and he's here."

He was joined at the court by a second plaintiff, Aziz Deria, who as a young man saw his father and cousin taken away by Somali security agents. Neither were seen alive again. "It's unfortunate to know he's living here in peace," Deria said of Samantar.

Though the outcome in the Supreme Court looked uncertain, Yousuf said he viewed the case as a success.

"I was very happy I had my day in court," he said.
