  1. MB & NB, Thanks for your input. I completely agree. Diversification is the key to a stable economy. I think more focus should be on the manufactuering and processing sectors. So far there are only a few(that I know). Like the fish canning plants in Bosaso and Las Qoray, water bottling factories, and I think there's a milk processing plant in Garowe. Otherwise, we will always be at the mercy of Arab governments and bans on Somali animal exports. Another very important step is the finishing of the Bosaso port. The Italian government started the 3 phase development of Bosaso into a modern deep water port. But phase 2 and 3 of the project were not done due to the civil war. Today, Only Berbera, Mogadishu and Kismayo have deep water ports. For Bosaso to compete it must also. Also, the Frankincense business in Puntland should be better regulated and expanded. This is a quote from BuySomali.com Progressive Intervention Orginization: "In the absence of quality control systems for gum exports and direct access to international and Saudi Arabian markets, Somalis have become heavily dependant upon Gulf transshipment markets, especially the UAE. Somali merchants in the Gulf states are poorly positioned. Over just a few short recent years, demand and prices for Somali frankincense have plummeted as the international frankincense trade appears now to be heavily controlled by powerful merchant cartels. "Feedback from international buyers and essential oil distillers confirms a widespread practice of gum adulteration somewhere between Somalia and European ports. "Preferred Somali frankincense varieties are being mixed with inferior gum species which is being marketed as Arabian frankincense" says seasoned Somali trader, Mohamed Nur. "The problem for disillusioned Somali frankincense merchants and collectors is compounded when in some cases they never get paid by Gulf merchants, or in the case of payment from unscrupulous local merchants, get paid in useless local money or inflated food-for-work" he adds. All this has led to a crisis in the Somali frankincense sector for an estimated 10,000 collector households as well as the many women gum cleaners and graders whose livelihoods depend on frankincense. One significant environmental fallout from this is collectors turning to alternative incomes from tree felling for charcoal production, including young frankincense trees." Continue.... Lastly, the main Somalia road should be expanded to more remote regions to facilitate trade and development in the North East.
  2. Sxb, Let's agree to disagree and move on, aight?

Some people are repeating as if Xamar has dozens of roadblocks Doesnt it?!?! While in Xamar, I had never seen any roadblock Didn't you say that you only stayed in your old family's district? 5. Zak, I think you went too far in posting a personal email from another nomad. Horn was attempting to resolve things with you personally. Guraad, Horn has already stated that he is not from C/Qasims clan. I supported C/Qasim during teh 2000 conference in Djibouti-hoping he could bring peace to Somalia. Everyone has their own reasons and shouldn't be accused of clan politics. Horn, I suggest you ignore this topic.
  6. Originally posted by Entrepreneur: and that is not fair to xamar which remains to be the place most somalis reside- despite the hardships of ISBAARO, warlords etc. So more then half of Somalia's population lives in Xamar?!? Let us free our minds from regionalism which could be intepreted as latent qabyaalism. I am guessing you are Anti-Federalist...am I right? The old equation [Mogadishu=Somalia] is over. BTW, You don't have to be born or from Mog to suffer from Mogadishu-ism. It's very widespread disorder
  7. The excerpt below is from the Report on Internally Displaced Persons in Somalia by the UNCU in 2002. It discusses the situation of Internally Displaced People(IDP), in particular, and Somalia in general. The link and source is provided below. Self-reliance in the Northeast: Puntland (2002) "In comparison to Hargeisa, Bosasso residents enjoy a higher standard of living if we compare average daily incomes. While urban residents of Hargeisa earn, on average, about $1 a day, Bosasso residents earn over $4. Naturally, with respect to Bosasso, IDPs earnings are far lower. Most IDP households in Bosasso earn a daily wage of a little over a $1, which is more than 50percent, more than most returnee/IDP families living in and around Hargeisa. However, for Bosasso's IDPs these earnings are seasonally dependent." Therefore Bosaso and Puntland in general has a higher standard of living then Hargeisa and 'Somaliland'. We can also assuming that wages in towns like Galkacyo, Laascaanod, Erigavo, Garowe, Badhan, Qardho, Las Qoray are higher then those in the NW Somali towns. Yearly Income: Bosaso Resident Yearly wage: $4 X 6(days)X 4(weeks)X 12(Months)= $1152+ USD Hargeisa Resident Yearly Wage: $1 X 6(days)X 4(weeks)X 12(Months)= $288 USD Bosaso IDP wage: $1 X 6(days)X 4(weeks)X 12(Months)= $288 USD Hargeisa IDP Wage: $.50 X 6(days)X 4(weeks)X12(Months)=$144 USD http://www.db.idpproject.org/Sites/idpSurvey.nsf/wViewCountries/15B6C9955D815FAAC1256D440074B9CB Sources: United Nations Coordination Unit in Somalia (UNCU), 30 July 2002, UN Report on Internally Displaced Persons in Somalia.

  9. Thanks for the article Samurai. Do you guys know what was the specific time frame agreed between cade muse and c/yusuf on the next elections for leader of Puntland?
  10. Entrepeneur, Have you ever heard of Where there is smoke there's usually fire. Meaning you are constantly hearing such and such a place is doing good--it probably is. By somali standards, peaceful areas of Somalia are doing very well. BTW, The Somali people are a nation. Somalia is a state--so we are stateless. If I suffer from regionalism then I think you&MMA are suffering from Mogadishu-ism.
  11. Originally posted by Miskiin-Macruuf-Aqiyaar: Marka wax qabiil la dhaho waa dhamaatay I think that's stretching it a bit... BTW, you didn't answer my question: You only went to xamar during your whole trip to Somalia?!?!
  12. I guess the argument went bit too far on both sides. My apologizes if any NW ladies were offended. Ma'salaam
  13. They run to Ethiopia whenever they call but still receive nothing in return. And on top of that they call us fundamentalist terrorists!!!! I guess they will say/do anything to get recognized....
  14. Gediid, Nice editing. YOu deleted what Angel had said in Punite's post. The discussion was not about the "women of somaliland" but between Guraad/Me & Angel and Mystery. It was about SSH/Puntland and how the SNM are not "required" since they(angel/Mystery) are able to whip the azzes of the men in the here and in Puntland. Not mention the clan-cleansing they want to do in Sool and Sanaag: Originally posted by Angel Dust: if any minority and yes the "d" group are minorties in all of SS&H want to be part of Somaliland-we say good riddence but the that Soil is ours and will always remain part of Somaliland-Cappichi abooweeeee. I wonder how you guys(Gediid) missed these comments below: Originally posted by Mystery: Look at this forum for instance, do you see any of their women? No of course not, how can they be that educated enough to use the internet. Now we know if we start getting a woman from that region joining the forum soon, it will the guys here dressed in dirac. She wrote this on Page 2 we are now on Page 4 yet not a single person said anything!!! Let me guess...it's OK to insult women--as long as they are from North East!?!?!?  Talk about HYPOCRITS!!!!
  15. Nino, Your right the people of Puntland are very accepting and everyone has opportunities there. It's good to hear that you have done some work at Galkacyo Hospital. Can you tell me more? When was the last time you went? I'm sure the people appreciate it. Keep it up!
  16. Nino, Like I said, haters are gonna keep on hating.
  17. Do you guys even have internet cafe's? Or are you jelous that Galkacyo--which is not even the capital or largest city in Puntland--has a population of 170,000+ and 15+ internet cafe's? I heard that hargeisa ppl don't even like using chairs because it "doesn't feel natural" to them. They prefer to sit on the ground
  18. Ayoub, Your hate must be consuming you. What you should really be proud of is supporting Col. RIyaale who is robbing hargeisa blind. $600,000+1M for sitting on his fat ass and having qad sessions with his friends Wallahi I should run for Hargeisa president What you should really be proud of is Siyaad 2 regime in hargeisa with daily beatings of women and children, dentions of pregnant women and elderly, curfews in hargeisa, and more....I doubt if hargeisaland people back home are laughing it up. All this in the last several months--I can't wait for the rest of his "term"(read dictatorship). What happened to democracy or human rights? Do you know that the "parliament" in hargeisa extendd it's term by 2 years and the guurti by 3 years? Clan appointed parliametns are hardly democratic. Not to mention the 'supreme' court also appointed by riyaale--and guess what they named him hargeisa president...They are all paid by Riyale and are accountable to him only. What happened to 'we are differnt then Somalia--we are a democracy blah blah blah. You can fool foreigner but not Somalis!!! Who is living in the 21st century? Maybe u but not the residents of hargeisa. With power outages, lack of water, most living in plastic bags donated by the UN, Economy stagnating, and corruption and nepotism at the highest levels. Please--maybe if you actually went there you would know what I am talking about....instead of an "Internet Lander"
  19. If I am not mistaken there were many NW somalis in Afweyn's dictatorship, like Siilanyo and Riyaale. The heavy weights of the NW today. Their hands aren't clean either... P.s. As if riyaale is not stealing millions of dollars--LEGALLY!!!!!!!
  20. Yusuf, I have no idea where that moneys went. Although I have read that the militia he hired has not been paid in God knows how long. I am guessing most was either in swiss accounts of "parliamentarians", tng officials, ina salad boy himself etc. Some was also used to buy weaponry and teknicals. And others to destabalize peaceful regions of somalia. P.S. I'm sure some was spent on those nice suits he always wears
  21. Originally posted by Entrepreneur: It is xamar that holds the key to somalia's progress. Sxb, Xamar is holding Somalia back. Without xamar there is no somalia...........so sidaasi ma aha? Sadly that might be true. If the fighting continues for another 12 years in xamar--Somalia may become dismembered forever. Each region may declared a seperate state. If that is not the case, then how comes we don't have a nation? We have a nation. But we don't have a state because of the fighting in Southern somalia/mog city. My fellow somalis, in cafe's, qaad houses and on the streets of european and north american metropols, we are confronted by people who claim that this and that city in somalia is flourishing Sxb, for development and reconstruction to occur there must be peace. The cities you are hearing about have peace and are flourishing(by Somali standards). Somalia is no longer a One City State. Although you might not like to hear that
  22. Originally posted by Miskiin-Macruuf- A lot. I don't know why there would be anyone from the NE or NW since there peace in those regions. Maybe they had a death wish or got lost So, Bari-Nomad, maalintaa Xamar kugu arko ha dhihin waa soo dhumay. Sxb, You might see me there 1)Claiming our land/property back 2)Turn around and selling it 3)Getting the Hell out!! That is if there is anything left worth claiming. Are you telling me that on your whole trip to somalia you only went to xamar? p.s. I can see you now in the streets of Puntland hustling some naive folks
  23. Horn, You couldn't of picked a more TNG owned website I guess they forgot to mention that ina salad boy was interior minister and deputy PM for 17+ under the ruthless dictatorship of Afweyn If you think his hands are clean--think again! Sxb, They are all the same!!!!
  24. Guraad, Those were very nice pix of the old days. Very sad too. We all know who built it--the whole Somali nation--and the USC destroyed it. It's just rubble now.... But who wants to go back to Mog?!?! We are building our own cities in Puntland--Bigger and Better. Look to the future--not the past. Let's all move on!
