  3. (CNN) -- Tim Russert, who became one of America's leading political journalists as the host of NBC's "Meet the Press," died Friday, according to the network. He was 58. Tim Russert joined NBC in 1984 and established himself as the face of the network's political coverage. The network said he collapsed at work Friday. He was taken to Washington's Sibley Memorial Hospital where he died, the hospital confirmed. Colleague and former NBC anchor Tom Brokaw broke the news on the network Friday shortly after 3:40 p.m., saying Russert had just returned from a family vacation in Italy to celebrate the graduation of his son, Luke, from Boston College. President Bush on Friday expressed sorrow over Russert's death and admiration for his professionalism. "He was an institution in both news and politics for more than two decades. Tim was a tough and hardworking newsman. He was always well-informed and thorough in his interviews. And he was as gregarious off the set as he was prepared on it," Bush said in a statement Friday. "Most important, Tim was a proud son and father, and Laura and I offer our deepest sympathies to his wife, Maureen, his son, Luke, and the entire Russert family," he said. Sen. Barack Obama, the presumed Democratic nominee for president, said he had known Russert since Obama spoke at the party convention in 2004. "There wasn't a better interviewer in television," he said. Remembering Russert He was one of the most influential names in politics. Larry King remembers the late Tim Russert in a special hour. Tonight, 9 ET see full schedule » Sen. John McCain, set to be Obama's Republican opponent in the fall, issued a statement saying he was very saddened by the news. "He was truly a great American who loved his family, his friends, his Buffalo Bills and everything about politics and America. He was just a terrific guy," McCain said of Russert. Russert joined the network in 1984 and quickly established himself as the face of the network's political coverage, eventually becoming senior vice president and Washington bureau chief of NBC news. In 1985, Russert supervised live broadcasts of the "Today" show from Rome, negotiating an appearance by Pope John Paul II -- a first for American television. Russert, who also served as a political analyst for cable network MSNBC, took the helm of "Meet the Press" in 1991, turning the long-running Sunday-morning interview program into the most-watched show of its kind in the United States. "I think I can invoke personal privilege and say this news division will not be the same without his strong, clear voice," Brokaw said Friday. "He will be missed as he was loved -- greatly." Washingtonian Magazine once dubbed Russert the best and most influential journalist in Washington, describing "Meet the Press" as "the most interesting and important hour on television." He was also the recipient of numerous awards for his work, including an Emmy in 2005 for his coverage of the funeral of President Ronald Reagan. 5. Hey do you know this movie starting Mohan(Sharukh Khan) in which he plays NASA engineer who works in the United states and later decides to return back home to India in pursuit to find his long time nanny, who raised him after his parents passed away. While on his trip he also finds a long time child friend of his, a beautiful and intillengent girl who has graduated college in new Delhi and striving to change the lives of villagers by teaching them multiple subjects. Sharukh khan finds his dear nanny as well the love of his life. I can't recall the name of that movie, but I think it had good story line to it.
  6. Cadaan, That is great keep up the good work. DD and Ibtisam don't give up.
  7. Accountability: the omitted piece from the peace deal We are expected to be cheering and welcoming the Djibouti breakthrough peace pact between the Somali Transitional Government and the Opposition Islamist groups. As usual; most of us will oblige and feel relief that the Somali factions once again for the 15th or 16th time reached another landmark peace deal. Ethiopian troops leaving Somalia is great news but would it turn out to be real? We got to wait for 120 days and hope so! Yet, the ambiguity of the article (7b of the pact) that calls for the withdrawal dampens the spirits. Maybe if the wording was bit different and straight, it would have made us all cheer for it and be optimistic. The vagueness of the article bodes gloomy interpretations later on. The conditions linked to the total and absolute withdrawal of the Ethiopian troops and when, how and who will fulfill these clauses as "TFG will act in accordance"; "the deployment of a sufficient number of UN Forces"; begs the question. Then there are other reasonable qualms one can raise. Who will guarantee Al-Shabaab to comply and cease the insurgency to liberate Somalia from the Ethiopian subjugation? What would happen if they don't cease the armed confrontation and hostilities? Within 30 days and keep it for 90 days? Would the insurgents stop their raids to takeover towns and villages throughout the country? Would the TFG headship be happy being confined to Villa Somalia, the ADC warehouse in Baidao? Even if, the moderates disassociate the hardliners, who would guarantee the insurgents won't attack the expected UN forces that would be deployed in Somalia? When and how these forces will be deployed? Would the UN and International Community carry out their pledge this time around and on time? But most importantly; what would this peace deal means to the average suffering Somali mother and child and to the ones whose loved ones perished under the brutal Ethiopian occupation? The Ethiopian troops would be leaving after they have killed thousands of innocent mothers and children, wounded thousands of innocent Somali civilians, destroyed and wiped out entire neighborhoods. The Ethiopians would leave unpunished for the war crimes they committed in Mogadishu. The Ethiopians would leave undefeated knowing that they pulled off remarkable feats: Crushing the Somali people in their own capital, reaching the coveted Indian Ocean and avenging the humiliation of the 1977 war. These are milestones for Meles Zenawi to be proud of. He will tell his returning military officers to hold their heads up and be proud of what they did in Mogadishu. Most of all, the Ethiopians would leave their warlord clients behind, in power, unpunished and protected by the UN multinational force that would be deployed. The peace deal means that Somali warlords and war criminals would not be held accountable and would be retaining positions of leadership under the next "inclusive and unity" government. Even so, with this peace deal, the average Somali mother and child would be expecting to be relieved of the indiscriminate shelling and human rights abuses. Possibly, they would come back to their destroyed homes and as resilient as they always have been lick their wounds and recover from the unimaginable horrors. But the humiliation and suffering would haunt them forever! Forget about accountability and justice. The relatives of the mothers and children who have been killed, wounded, displaced, starved, raped, massacred in their homes, in the markets and mosques, and blocked of food, medical and humanitarian assistance are told to forget and forgive all of that painful atrocities and welcome this peace deal. As for the international community that have not only complacently sanctioned the Ethiopian occupation but turned blind eye to the worst humanitarian violations in the past 18 months can now exonerate itself of the shame and complicity of the occupation by pushing this peace deal and "possibly" replacing the Ethiopians.
  8. Xiin faniin, You can't present your points unless you have to go after the author. Focus on the messege. If it differs from yours don't assume one is against the peace. trust me, no one can reject peace when they see one. And my friend, as you said clauses on a paper doesn't really perform magic to changes the current status. You and I and the rest will know when Somalia is ready for peace. But why should i keep blabbing cuz I am against peace right? well watch this space and let us see how this 'peace' that has been signed and prayed upon by the Saudis plays out. ps. the only reason we yell, turn red around this page is for the concern of our people and their suffering. How ironic that those who laughed all of sudden have turned to be angels with wings who care.

  11. My pleasure I wish I could tell you right now who runs the orphanage but I don't. But I think it's mostly run by local organizations, NGOs with the help of some generous outsiders. Ps. Jacaylbaro who is in Hargeysa can probably give us little more info about this.

How many more tries will people attempt before realizing this is not the way to do it.
  15. You can't be serious in thinking this will bear anything. This is just a word on a screen, but the reality on the ground is much different and needs alot more than that to bring peace about. ps. Naga qaleeda markaad leedahay dhulka miyaad iga xigtaa?

I think we are getting somewhere. There is no dying the TFG contains bunch of ex warlords and thugs who took part in the prolonged civil wars that caused the deaths of milions of somalis. On the other hand, the Alshabaab freedom fighters must come to the table and make their objectives clear to everyone by saying listen this is somali problem. We will lay down our arms and strike peace if the EThiopian troops withdraw from our soil ASAP uncodintionally and stop meddling with our affairs. And furthermore assure and give the TFG that any of its members will be safe and elections agreed upon can be held. From that point, the TFG needs to remind the Ethiopian invaders to withdraw immediately and shall negotiate with the freedom fighters. The Alshabaab or other freedom fighting group are willing to work with that. Thus far, the TFG has not sacrificed any of its positions why should Al shabaab abondened their core believes, to fight the aggressors and invaders of Somalia, Ethiopia.
  17. When will somalis realize this is their problem and unless they really get down to core issues that are keeping them apart will not be solved by strolling around the globe and waiting on to be reconciled by others. It's just not gonna happen. If you want peace, you really have to be up for it and be willing to sacrifice alot of things. I am not sure the so call TFG is willing to sacrifice one thing, to tell the Ethiopians that they don't need their protection. The TFG as terrible of a body of ex warlords it may be will be allowed to 'functionate' only if they tell the EThiopians to cut and pack up from our soil. But I highly doubt that, therefore there can be no peace as long as somalia is occupied by foriegn forces and people are being killed by them.

  23. Xasan Dahir is my hero. Wonderful man. peace?? who are we kidding the people who are against peace, and have always been are those warlords in Xamar and their friends in crime, the Addis regime. I highly doubt that any agreement will bear healthy fruits if Somalis aren't left alone to deal with their problems. I mean what is an Ethiopian army General who has killed thousands of Somali civilians doing in 'somali peacetalks'? That much I can't explain.
