Paul the octopus set for sensational transfer to Madrid aquariumSpanish zoo prepared to meet 'any demands' to sign German cephalopod that predicted team's World Cup final victory In what may prove to be the biggest transfer story this summer, negotiations have begun to bring Paul the psychic octopus to Madrid after he correctly predicted Spain's World Cup final victory. Madrid's Zoo Aquarium says it is prepared to trump any other offer Germany's Oberhausen Sea Life Centre receives for Paul, certain that the world's most famous cephalopod will attract thousands of visitors. At present no cash is on the table, and the zoo says it is trying to negotiate an exchange of animals. Sounding more like the president of Real Madrid than a zookeeper, a spokesman said he was confident that Paul would be in Madrid within a few days. Madrid was prepared to offer Oberhausen "whatever they demand" to complete the deal — suggesting that this will be a cash-plus-animal transfer. He added that Paul, named after a German children's book by Boy Lornsen, would be treated "with tender loving care" because of his national treasure status in Spain. Paul correctly predicted the outcome of all seven of Germany's World Cup matches, as well as the final between Spain and Holland. This was an improvement on his record for the 2008 Eurocopa, in which he correctly predicted four out of six of Germany's games. During the World Cup, Paul became a media phenomenon, with his final predictions screened live on television. He also became the world's third most popular Twitter trend during the competition, out-doing both Shakira and Cristiano Ronaldo with 141 hours of trending. A Brazilian company has developed an iPhone app based on Paul's performance, allowing users to consult the octopus to help them make decisions. The Ask the Octopus app lets users ask 50-50 questions, to which a cartoon of Paul chooses an answer.

Igad pledges more troops to help secure Somalia The Intergovernmental Authority on Development (Igad) will increase the number of troops in Somalia by 2,000. This follows militant group al-Shabaab’s Sunday attacks in Uganda, that claimed 74 lives. At the same time, the European Commission and the Somalia Transitional Federal Government condemned the attacks and called for a more decisive action on the militant group. Igad Executive Secretary Mahboub Maalim said the attack on fans watching football World Cup finals between Spain and Netherlands had strengthened the organisation’s resolve to deploy more troops in August, "to help secure the war-torn country". Projects "After the deployment, the number of Amisom (African Union Mission in Somalia) troops will grow to 8,100," said Mr Maalim at a meeting in Nairobi. The meeting was called to implement a number of projects under Horn of Africa Initiative, whose key objectives are peace, energy, transport and food security. "Igad calls upon the international community to strengthen the economic and military support to the Transitional Federal Government to fight these terrorists in Somalia and the region." There are 6,100 AU troops in the region, but details of deployment of the additional ones will be finalised in the coming weeks, Maalim said. News linking the bombing to al-Shabaab came to the limelight after Al Shahid, a Somali news agency, quoted a senior member of the militia saying the blasts were a retaliatory attack on Uganda for sending peace keepers to Somalia to support President Sheikh Sherif’s Transitional Federal Govern ment. The bombings targeted the Ethiopian Village restaurant, a popular night spot where hundreds of football fans were gathered to watch World Cup finals. The pub is frequented by foreigners. The second attack struck the Kyadondo Rugby Club, where the match was also shown. The attacks bore hallmarks of al Qaeda and groups linked to Osama bin Laden’s network. Al Shabaab is believed to be one of them. Mr Maalim said Igad would continue to check terrorism in the region as it forms one of its core functions at ensuring peace and food security. Shameful occurence Dr Roger Moore, a representative of the European Commission, present at the meeting, termed the attack shameful occurrence and an affront to peace and security in the region. Kenya has since heightened its border security following the attacks while the Federal Bureau of Investigations (FBI) will also be part of the team investigating the bomb blast. At the border with Uganda in Busia and Malaba, officers were on high alert, with claims the terrorists could escape through the border. Busia OCPD Erastus Muthamia said police had been deployed along the border to ensure no one with ill intentions found his way into the country. Mr Muthamia allayed fears the terror suspects who committed the attack in Uganda would use the border town as an escape route. "Our officers, uniformed and in civilian clothes, have been positioned at all entry points along the border to arrest any suspects," he said.

Che's got some backbone but it seems no brain whatsoever. Al Shabaab have just committed political suicide. Their ignorance is such that, they can not defeat 6000 AMISOM troops they want to take on the combined armies of the Horn. Now let's see he brave they are and how sane their supporters are when real armies enter Somalia.

H.E. President Sh Sharif Sh Ahmed Condemns and blames Al Shabaab
General Duke replied to Thierry.'s topic in Politics
^^^Again nonsense, Somalia under Yusuf controlled vast parts of the country. Under Sharif it controls 2km2. Sharif has humiliated his supporters, he was a Shiekh and now he is asking for Ethiopian troops and his "government" tried to sell the sea.. Under Yusuf there was parts of Mogadishu untouched, specially the North. Under Sharif Hotel even the inhabitants of the graves are not safe, from the war. -
Al-Shabab claims Uganda bombings Malcolm Webb reports from Kampala on the deadly blasts that struck crowds watching World Cup final. At least 74 people have been killed in two near simultaneous bomb explosions, apparently targeting crowds watching the World Cup final, in Uganda's capital, Kampala, police have said. One blast hit an Ethiopian restaurant in the south of the city, while the other occurred at a rugby sports club in the east of Kampala. Somalia's al-Shabab, a group which the US says has links to al-Qaeda, has claimed responsibility for the attacks. "Al-Shabab was behind the two blast in Uganda," Sheik Ali Mohamud Rage, the group's spokesperson, told reporters in Mogadishu, the Somali capital. "We thank the mujahideens that carried out the attack. We are sending a message to Uganda and Burundi, if they do not take out their AMISOM [African Union Mission in Somalia] troops from Somalia, blasts will continue and it will happen," Rage said. Uganda and Burundi currently have peacekeepers in Somalia as part of a stabilisation mission supported by the African Union. These attacks are the first time the group, which has carried out multiple suicide attacks inside Somalia, has struck outside of the country. Al-Shabab strategy Both blasts struck at the centre of large crowds watching live coverage of Sunday's World Cup football final between Spain and the Netherlands. "These bombs were definitely targeting World Cup crowds," Kale Kayihura, the inspector-general of Ugandan police, said.

H.E. President Sh Sharif Sh Ahmed Condemns and blames Al Shabaab
General Duke replied to Thierry.'s topic in Politics
^^^Thiery I am disappointed in you. The fact is simple, the fact that we don’t have a state today, and that Sharif hotel is stuck in an area the size of 2km2 is because of the war that he waged against the very state that you claim he “transitioned” into. You are a smart boy and you know that only a year is left and we are in a much worse position today than in 2006. His actions in 2006 are having a blowback on the man he wants to be in 2010. The suicide bombings he sanctioned against the legitimate government is used against him and his interests. Also the only reason you support Sharif and are unable to see his incompetence even today is because of clan. After all you support a man who has never visited a single village town or city outside of Villa Somalia in the past 1 year and a half. I am not stuck in the past, even the US paymasters have realized that Sharif and the whole clan were making false claims and promises. -

^^^^You are still living in clan denail my brother. are you telling me that you dont comprehend that as leader of the clan courts he was responsible for the first suicide bombings carried out by his group? That also as president the rise of Al Shabaab is also due to a large part his incopetence. Also the attempt to sell the Somali sea to Kenya also took place in his watch? -

Somali militants say they carried out deadly Uganda World Cup blastsCommander of al-Shabab, linked to al-Qaida, says group was behind twin explosions that killed 74 in Kampala A Somali militant group with links to al-Qaida has claimed responsibility for the twin explosions that killed 74 people watching the World Cup final in Kampala last night, and has threatened to carry out attacks "against our enemy" wherever they are. The blasts came two days after a commander with the group, al-Shabab, urged militants to attack sites in Uganda and Burundi, two countries that contribute troops to the African Union peacekeeping force in Somalia. Al-Shabab, whose ranks are swelled by militant veterans of the conflicts in Afghanistan and Iraq, has long threatened to strike beyond Somalia's borders, but the bombings late on Sunday are the first time the group has done so. "We will carry out attacks against our enemy wherever they are," said Sheik Ali Mohamud Rage, a militant spokesman in Mogadishu. "No one will deter us from performing our Islamic duty." Ugandan officials had said earlier that they suspected the Somali group was involved. One of the targets was an Ethiopian restaurant. The al-Shabab militants despise Ethiopia. Uganda's president, Yoweri Museveni, toured the blast sites this morning and vowed to catch those responsible. "We shall go for them wherever they are coming from. We will look for them and get them as we always do," he said. The US president, Barack Obama, and the British foreign secretary, William Hague, also condemned the attacks as cowardly. The first bomb detonated at 10.25pm (8.25pm GMT) at the Ethiopian Village restaurant, which is popular with foreigners, killing 15 people. About 50 minutes later twin blasts tore through Lugogo rugby club, where crowds were watching the match on a large television screen, killing 49 people. At least 67 people were wounded. "We were watching soccer here and then when there were three minutes to the end of the match an explosion came ... and it was so loud," Juma Seiko, who was at the rugby club, told Reuters. Police said Ethiopian, Indian and Congolese nationals were among those killed and wounded. An aid group in San Diego, California, said one of its American workers died. Invisible Children, which helps child soldiers, said Nate Henn was killed on the rugby field. Several Americans from a Pennsylvania church group were wounded in the restaurant attack, including 18-year-old Kris Sledge, from Selinsgrove, Pennsylvania. "I remember blacking out, hearing people screaming and running," Sledge told the Associated Press from his hospital bed. His right leg was wrapped and he had burns on his face. "I love the place here but I'm wondering why this happened and who did this ... At this point we're just glad to be alive." The US secretary of state, Hillary Clinton, said America would work with the Ugandan government "to bring the perpetrators of this crime to justice".

BBC News: The Somali Islamist group al-Shabab has said it was behind twin blasts which hit the Ugandan capital Kampala on Sunday, killing 74 people. A spokesman for the group, Sheikh Ali Mohamud Rage, threatened more attacks in a statement in Mogadishu. Police said the bombings targeted football fans watching the World Cup final. A Ugandan official said a Somali's head was found at the scene of one blast, and he may have been a suicide bomber. Ugandan peacekeepers are in Somalia, and al-Shabab has previously threatened Kampala. "Al-Shabab was behind the two bomb blasts in Uganda," Ali Mohamud Rage said. "We thank the mujahideens that carried out the attack. We are sending a message to Uganda and Burundi, if they do not take out their Amisom [African Union Mission in Somalia] troops from Somalia, blasts will continue and it will happen in Bujumbura [the Burundi capital] too." The explosions, which also injured about 70 people, ripped through a rugby club and an Ethiopian restaurant as football fans watched the last few minutes of the World Cup final.

CNN) -- A Somali Islamist militant group, Al-Shabaab, issued a direct claim of responsibility Monday for three bombings in Uganda that left at least 74 people dead. "The best of men have promised and they have delivered," said the statement obtained by CNN. "Blessed and exalted among men -- taking full responsibility." An Al-Shabaab leader said in a separate website posting Monday that Uganda would be targeted for retribution over the "massacres" perpetrated against Somalis. "My message to the Ugandan and Burundian nations is that you will be the target for our retribution to the massacres perpetrated against the Somali men, women and children in Mogadishu by your forces," said an Arabic statement from Sheikh Abu Al Zubeir, identified as "the Emir of Al-Shabaab in Somalia." The statement was posted on an al Qaeda-affiliated website which previously has carried statements and videos from Al-Shabaab. The website set up a page Monday to "receive congratulations" on Al-Shabaab's behalf for the "blessed operations" in Uganda. The three explosions ripped through two venues where crowds were watching the World Cup final match on Sunday. At least 71 people were hospitalized, police spokeswoman Judith Nabakooba said.
