True Opinionated, 3rd world countries don't have the resources to slow down the onset of Aids, however, I guess it is in someway better that the majority of the victims in 3rd world countries have HIV 2...it is much slower the HIV 1 to turn into AIDS.

But after all, Allah swt said "for every disease there is a cure", so it is only a matter of time before a cure is found...let us hope it is very soon insha Allah

AIDs is spreading fast walaahi, in fact last week there was an article about it in the Guardian where they said that nearly 40% of adults in Botswana are infected with HIV and in places like Zimbabwe its is preficted that one in five children will be orphaned in 2010, with 80% of them losing a parent or both to AIDS. AIDS is also on the rise in our homeland.

Well, no one as yet knows where exactly AIDS originated from, but it is thought to be from animals such as African monkeys and the disease then being transmitted via a bite or someone eating the meat and then spreading extremely fast within the gay community to begin with.

Anyways, I know it does not make much of a difference, but most people in Africa HIV 2, and most in these western countries have HIV 1. As far as I know, a person usually lives longer with HIV 2 before it eventually turns to full blown AIDS.

What is going on is that unlike the west, we don't have the resources they have avaliable to them back in Africa. We can't afford medicine, there aren't many doctors; and in the Somali situation they will deny that they have the disease saying it is a disease only for the "gays" and they continue living their own lives, until it is too late, and by that time infect other unsuspecting souls. A person can live with HIV, infact I have read somewhere of a lady living with HIV for more then 15 years (I think it was 19yrs, but it was a while ago and am not sure of the exact figure). Another problem Africa has is with its leaders, they are more worried about fighting within themselves then they are about the sick people and the orphaned kids, we can see this in our own homeland.

Anyways, thats my labo shilling for now...I'll wait for the rest of the nomads to join this discussion.

    Ma'salaama

In my life, I have been to one eid ruwayaad/party...lol it was a very tramatic experience lets just say. You spend the whole Ramadan (as many have already mentioned) fasting and asking Allah (swt) to forgive us and our sins and you go to a eid party.

Let us be honest with each other....what on earth do we gain? There are half naked girls, couples making out in the corner, fights breaking out and to my shock a brother came up to me *with a bottle of champagne/wine in his hand * shouting out "Eid Mubarak Walaal"...never had I experienced such shame and disgust.

There are definetly other ways to catch up with people you haven't seen for a while. You can't really talk at eid parties cuz the music is so loud anyways.

First day of eid I always spend it with family & taking the kids out...sometimes on the same night, or the next day I go out with my friends...we meet up, *am not big on shopping but they are*, then in the evening we go to a restuarant where we can sit down, talk and catch up with each other. I find that to be much more fulfilling them being at some eid party...it was a mistake I made once redface.gif and insha allah will never repeat in my life again!

lol me too Ameenah sometimes I wake up in the middle of the night laughing *because of my dream and am not just some psycho* lol and I think ooh I gotta share this with everyone tomorrow morning...and I never remember :(

Its not just with romance that english words are dull...its with everything...

I find I can 90% of the time describe myself better in Somali...as for the counting business...depends where am at or who am talking to. When am at home, I speak mostly somali with the few odd words of english and italian...when am in italy... prefer to speak english:confused: lol i'll even deny the fact that I can speak italian just for the hell of it.

    Eiid Wanaagsan everyone

    Ma'Salaama

Am confused too...I started fasting on the 26th Sunday, but the rest of my family started fasting on Monday the 27th. That means that I will have fasted 30 days on Monday the 24th therefore Eid could be on Monday (the 30th day of Ramadan)or Tuesday.

But If others started fasting on Monday the 27th, Then Eid will either be Tuesday the 25th (30th day of Ramadan) or Wednesday

Murefu....how on earth is your eid on Friday?????

    I have absolutely NO IDEA!

    Ma'Salaama

Thanks Mujahid Jazaka Allah Khayr(even your efforts of copying and pasting...make one stop to think and reflect on life.) ;)

"But forgiveness of sin, so full and free,

Is found in the Quran, not on T.V." That is sooo true. How many kids have I seen when they get too much for their parents, they turn the tv on for them and carry on with their work, not once thinking about the connsequences of what it might do to the child.

Luckly, that too was a beautiful poem, praying brings us closer to Allah, as Nabi Mohammed (scws) said "the shortest distance between a problem and a solution, is the distance between your knees and the floor" Jazza Allahu Khayr walaal.

    Here is my two cents:

We love to speak, but not to hear

We fear to die, but never live

We love to take, but not to give.

Ourselves we cherish, truth we let perish

We disdain prayers, yet live in fears

We forsake truth for empty careers.

    Inane values rule our desires

    Burning us like wildfires.

    Yet we do not seek

    Real substance

Instead we opt to follow Shaytan

    Mindless...

We are blinded by worldly desires...

Yet we forget it is only a fleeting pleasure

The real trial is after death

When we will ALL return to the One above

    Now I ask you this...

    Have YOU prepared?

    Ma'Salaama and afuur wanaagsan!

Dacawo sis, unfortunately I do not have memories like yours of Somalia, as I was only there for a short time...although I do remember one Ciid, where eeriga aa la qalaye (lol I must say it was a very traumatic ciid has I was very small and I could see the insides of the eeri…I can remember the lights going out as well…and the baranbaro  lol).

But for me, Ciid is my favourite time of year. Some aunties stay over the night (with my little cousins), and iilaan is put on. The day of Ciid, after going for Ciid prayers, we get ready to make a huge meal, where all the family comes over (lol there is usually no place to stand on ciid day in my house, upstairs or downstairs). The house is filled with laughter and screaming kids, all dressed with their new clothes and talking excitedly about their new presents and clothes. Aunties, uncles, ayeeyo’s, awoowe’s, cousins and nieces and nephews come over and we eat the feast hooyo and habaryal have made. Then we talk and catch up with each other (as for some, it is the only day we get to see each as some live outside of London). After that, the kids are taken out (a place of their choice), and it gives hooyo and habaryaral a chance to rest and enjoy a couple hours of peace and quiet. By the time, we come back from bringing back the kids, lol (older cousins and my sister and I are usually exhausted; this year they want to go to the aquarium…imagine taking 13 kids all under 10years old  ), it is time for xalwo and the other mac macaan. For my family and I, ciid is about spending time with the family. EVERYONE IS HAPPY, even walking down the streets people are smiling and saying “Asalaama Alaikum, Ciid Mubarak”.

Except this year, I think we’ll have to take the kids out the day after ciid…everyone is happy staying at home because you get to see family you haven’t seen for a while. This year, Insha Allah, ciid will be better then before as my mum’s sisters are coming from other parts of Europe so we can spend Ciid together :D

It is all about how you make your Ciid day...personally, am happy staying at home and catching up with my family am getting all excited just thinking about it!

Flying lol since I live outside of London, am planning on taking (if ciid falls on Tuesday) Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday and Friday off, and just come back to uni on Monday morning or Sunday night...I refuse to go to school, that means I have to prepare all my assignments now that are due in on the last week of Novemeber so I can spend time with my family...live a little sis, just call in a sicke for work ;)

    Ma'Salaama

Did you know that who ever says "none has the right to be worshipped except Allah (swt)" and has faith in his heart equal that of an atom will be taken out of Hell?

  10. Asalaama Alaikum

How far is he now? He wasn't getting much support in Milan, lol he mentioned Ali Suudi (Somalis can be so harsh). The people there were skeptical and kept asking him how he was going to cross the sea by a bike (which was very ****** ), and what exactly would he accomplish.

    Flying still abaayo...

I agree that it doesn't look like this will help Somalia in anyway, it maybe a strange way to help Somalia, but it is, nonetheless a way. He hopes to get some positive media coverage (as Somalia is only portrayed negatively in tv) and in turn find an organisation willing to support the Associazione Nazionale Comunita Italo/Somala (The National Association of the Italian/Somali Community), where he himself is a member, by donating money and vaccines to help widowed women, orphan and sick children.

If enough money is donated, he wants to rebuild a village, building a school, wells etc.

Insha Allah, I hope Allah (swt) aids him in his quest.

I thought I'd bring this topic back...as much as I hate to say this...I miss Southall (strange the things you miss).

Lol Jamaal apparently the dude that owns it (the old guy is my cousin  ). I called him awoowe out of respect and he was "naa bal inda adeerka aan aahay" obbis, I could tell he was slightly offended.

Lol I remember the days of hiding behind that bus stop every time I was sent to Dhabshiil and hoping no one would talk to me lool how i dreaded it when hooyo sent me there...*sighs* those were the days....

  12. Asalaama Alaikum

Masha Allah, walaalyal, you truly have talent, all I can say is keep up the good work.

    Here is my conclusion...

    The candle flickers;

    The rain pitter-patters;

    My heart does the same

    the line's getting flatter.

A solo piano is a sharp contrast

    to the raging clouds outside.

But they're both playing the same song

of the doubts I push down and hide.

    Broken glass without a window.

I hear it whisper beneath my shoes.

The stormy night tugs at me...

Invite her in or do I sleep through?

It can't rain all the time

    Tears don't fall forever

    Dark corners in my mind

Make the light seem that much better

I try to go to sleep at night,

But I live in this unrest.

    Lightning threads my cloudy eyes

But I get up and paint on a mask of black and white

And I push away the pain.

But my heart can merely bleed

When my face meets the rain.

It can't rain all the time

    Tears don't fall forever

    Dark corners in my mind

Make the light seem that much better

The candle now, is only wax.

    Sadness screams; smoldering dreams;

The storm tugs at my mask.

    Buildings burn and people die.

    Nothing lasts forever.

But the trivial matters and beauty lasts

    as long as we remember.

    It can't rain forever...

    Ma'salaama

    Khayr brother

Am not sure weather they are a sign of Mahdi's arrival, but I remember a hadith that went something along the lines of:

The sun and the moon do not eclipse because of someone's life or death, but they are two signs of Allah (swt) so pray whenever you see them.

Sorry I don't have the reference...

But people have also said that it is a sign of the coming of Mahdi, lakiin I have not seen a hadith mentioning it.

I was also told that there was a solar eclipse during the lifetime of Nabi Mohamemed scws, there is also a hadith if am not mistaken.

    Shukri and Sundus

Mahdi will come towards end of the world, when Judgment Day is very close. He will arrive when the Muslims are very weak. there will be a war in Syria against the christians in which a 1/3 of his (Mahdi's) army will flee, a third will die in battle and a third will become victorious.

There will also be a jihaad against India, which will be sucessful.

Dajaal will also appear, firstly claiming prophethood and eventually claim to be God (Nabi Mohamed scws has warned us that he will be one eyed and that the word Kafir will be written in between his two eyes). Most of his followers will be women and Jews.

During Iman Mahdi's time, Nabi Isa (pbuh) will descend and defeat Dajjal (The Anti-Christ).

If you want more detailed information about Iman Mahdi, I suggest you go to your local masagid smile.gif .

PS The best solution for all of us would be to asked someone more learned, only way to make sure. Insha Allah, I shall try to find the exact hadiths.

Lol don't limit yourself to a "slice" walaal

    "I seeked wealth

But not even investment promisses tomorrow"

Just wanted to share a little something with my fellow nomads...

    Rain, rain

    Go away

    Come again

    Another day

    My body hurts

    And my heart’s in pain

    Your dreary fall

    Can only stain

    I need a break

    I need to rest

    Because all day

    I do my best

    Yet no one sees

    And no one hears

    All the symptoms

    Of my fears

    But I sit and stare

    I sit and listen

    And I can sense

    All your *****in’

    Our fights I bare

    Your screams I stand

    And silence it seems

    I can never demand

    Though now it hurts

    Each new coming day

    To live the life

    That seems to stay

    It seems to me

    The sky is black

    Every time

    You turn your back

    What must I do

    To make you see

    What perfect is

    I’ll never be

    You’ll always see

    My hardest try

    But life is not

    A piece of pie

    Rain, rain

    Go away

    Come again

    Another day

    This is it

    I think I’m through

    Doing the best

    That I can do.

  17. Asalaama Alaikum

Athena abaayo I have the same problem, I cannot sit down to afuur without having prayed first. I will break my fast (usually with water and timir) and then pray straightaway. However today I was wondering what to do about magrib as days are getting shorter and pretty soon Magrib will be the same time as my afteroon lectures. When Magrib gets to just before 4pm, then I plan on being 5 minutes late to my lectures (letting the professor know before hand). But what do I do in the meanwhile, luckily my afteroon lectures have been cancelled (as I have a major assignment to do), but the problem will resume after next week, and I still have't come up with a solution for that. Back when I was in sixth form, we did not have this problem as we had a prayer room and we could pray during our breakes.

With Fajr, usually one of my good friend calls me in the morning to make sure am up, or I call her. This seems to work fine with me as we can act as constant reminders for each other. If she is up before Fajr, she calls me, makes sure I am out of bed and that she can hear the water from the sink running (I have a sink in my room). And if I am up before she is, then I too have to make sure she is up in the same way. Perhaps this could work with you, try it and see how it goes.

I hope this helps you in some small way.

    Ma'salaama
