  1. ^ Word. At least lions have the decency to break your neck, wait till you choke to death..and than eat you. Hyenas are chewing and tearing on you while you be screaming for help. Anyway, maybe its a Somali traditional belief that hyena meat is halal. Some Somalis believe that hyenas are hermaphrodites (half male/half female) because the female hyenas have extra male hormones that has made them at least as large as their male counterparts. Their clitoris is also therefore so big that it looks like a certified penis. Add to that that female hyenas are the leaders of each and every hyena clan wherever in Africa. For Somalis back in the day, I don't blame them for thinking hyenas were hermaphrodites. They wouldn't be the only one. European scientists used to believe that too. P.S. Fireworks were off the chain last night. We bought shit you can commit genocide with. We were the kings of the neighbourhood last night.
  2. Its unfair and degrading to say that Somalia with the a-suffix stems from the colonial period. Former British, French and Dutch colonies from India and Nigeria to Cambodia and Indonesia end with the a-suffix. Its the international way to describe the land of a people by adding the a-suffix. Had we not been colonised, our name would have been Somalia as well. Just like our ever-independant neighbour Ethiopia or before that Abbysinia.

  5. Warrior of Light, thanks brother. I knew all carnivores were Haram, but you confirmed it to me. He's a danyeer for crying out loud. Hyena's are fair game for him. He just wants to make sure he's not breaking any of God's covenants. P.S. Why is my name being spelled as Danyeer instead of Daanyeer by almost all of you?
  6. A Wadad Sheikh told me once that hyena meat was halal. I wasn't planning to eat hyena, but hey. It has raised a lot of questions. How can you eat hyena and not lion or baboon? Especially when the latter can be seen as cannibalism. How can you eat hyena when it's basically a dog but of a different species? And why on earth did he raise this non-issue? Who is going to eat hyena meat anyway? Or was hyena on our menu before the arrival of Islam? As you can see it has raised a lot of questions, but the most important one is: Is it true that hyena meat is halal?
  7. 3rd caption. A Somali High School Reunion ends in a bloodbath when it becomes clear that the prettiest girl of class 77' is still single and ready to mingle.
  8. No doubt, the Chinese are courting the Africans, including the Somalis. Mainly to quench it's seemingly limitless thirst for energy and minerals of which Africa has plenty. China-Africa trade is jumping year after year. Between 2002 and 2003 even with 50%! Maybe we are witnessing another scramble for Africa. The US that took their hegemony over Africa for granted is seeing how China is taking a stronger foothold in the dark continent. The US of course pulled out their magical Democracy card and attack China for damaging Africa's quest towards greater democracy by supporting Zimbabwe and Sudan. I think China and Africa could have a fruitful relationship. China needs energy and an outlet and Africa needs investment and an honest partner. The hell with Taiwan, that filthy rich island can take care of itself. Africa needs to get paid, so we need to ride with China. We are too broke to be righteous. What role does Somalia have in this? Potentially more than most other African nations, but as always it needs to get it's act together. China has been trying to go second base with Somalia since the 70s. Building the only Laami that connects North and South and the National Theatre. Now anno 2005, Chinese firms have shown keen interest in Somalia's recovery zones: Somaliland NW Somalia and Puntland NE Somalia. The new Chinese president Hu Jintao has sent an invitation to the new Somali president Abdullahi Yusuf Ahmed for talks in Beijing in January 2006 after a friendly gesture presented through China's ambassador to Kenya in Jowhar recently. Imagine what happens when Somalia has a government in place. Suldaaanka, who knows Somalia might shift from it's self-destructing road to zero to the same path Sudan is walking on right now. You never know what the future is about to behold or am I being too optimistic now?
  9. Is this game still going or not? Next picture please!
  10. I know this Farah who won the lottery. Don't know how much though. Castro Farah and Jama need to visit seminars for small businessmen and retailers and follow courses to beef up their service for their community. 10 years with nada change is a downfall. Afromali Get that permission on the double. I think we have a story here!
  11. ^^ See you're about to confuse us again. You mean speech right not speach? [Where is the sadistic emoticon damn it!] Afromali Marka how did you celebrate Kwanza? With a bucket of Fried Chicken, a Watermelon and gallons of Kool-Aid? You know how we black folks do! Happy Kwanza!
  12. Fathia So you were being serious in the first part of your post after all then? You're really trying to find that Somali millionaire..ahum..door? Ahura If I was them I would hospitalize that guy to IC. That really is a tragedy. Weird to spend it on an election campaign though. Somalis and Politics. Walee it's a deadly combo.
  13. The Flipflop markuu iswaalwaali jirey aa bilaabay. Somebody give him Caano Qandhac and put him in bed and tuck him in. Hadduu seexan waayona iisoo yeer.
  14. ^^ She's not very attractive? Atheer, don't be so soft, the girl looks like a hyena. And it would be outrageous to compare her or Waris Dirie to Iman. Iman makes you run around the block like a little kid to get a second glimpse of her. Afromali, I know where you're coming from fratello. You were putting us hypocrite Somalis in our place you motha-[shut yo mouth!].
  15. Anybody has some inspiring Rags to Riches stories of Somalis inside and outside Somalia or better yet are you one yourself and would you like to share your story? I used to hear stories about these two selfmade men called Ibrahim Unlaye and Jirde Hussein whom practically owned half of Mogadishu and Kismayo. I think it's amazing how men like these have build up such a fortune for themselves and I see them as rolemodels. I was talking to a friend about setting up a business in Somalia. Then we were discussing those that started a business before us and became successful and take a leaf from them. Companies came to mind such as Dahabshiil, Daallo, Damal, Amal, Dalsan, STG, Global, Nationlink and sofort. The owners of these companies have risked a lot investing in the country in the troublesome 90s, yet they did it anyway. There are a lot of Somalis in the diaspora with thriving companies. I'm not talking about Farah and his comatose Internetshop or Jama and his hygiene-regulation defying restaurant. I'm talking about millionaires with consultancy firms. We Somalis need people to look up to. There are a lot of Somali entrepreneurs that don't get the attention they deserve. Somalis that enabled Edo Halimo to send money to Odaygeeda faster, easier and cheaper than Kwame to his family in Ghana.
  16. You didn't have to. But I must admit, you can interpret your post in two different ways. But what have those Somali models got to do with the topic? As if we Somalis are collectively responsible for their choices in life.
  17. ^^^ [Edit: To Jaylani] Why generalize all Muslimahs and Somali girls in the west, because of a few rotten apples? P.S. Who the F cares about some niece?
  18. Am I the only one who figured out that Charles Fred are two guys? It reminds me of Hannah Barbera, the duo that used to make cartoons like The Flintstones, Yogi Bear, Scooby Dooby Doo and The Jetsons. Everybody thought it was a woman, but actually it stood for two guys; William Hannah and Joseph Barbera. I liked Najeeb's photos at the end of the tag series. Those Laas Geel pictures (Ancient Somali cave paintings) are breathtaking. I have them in my iPod now.
  19. Hitlerette, you just let her say that to you? Where is the Führer in you? Girls, defend your reputation!
  20. 2nd caption. Photoshop to be sued by an angry Black Man!
  21. Magnifique! Great snapshots by these Charles and Fred. Thanks Fyr. Here are some pictures of Somalia taken by some dude named Orien Harvey. Orien? Don't like those though, mostly sick patients and empty streets.
  22. The vatican is low on budget and is therefore pimping the nuns to save the church. The ends justify the means.
  23. Gold-diggers are bloodsuckers. As long as your pockets are bulging, she will ride with you. But when nigga get broke, relationship get broke. Avoid those mamasitas and move to the next. These ladies are destined for ugly rich guys.

If that's what you Somali women want, I'm here. I like kinky. FYI I do know qabiil belongs to men as well as women, hence the fact that I didn't understand your post. P.S. Head & Shoulders.
  25. Originally posted by Femme Fatale: Having said that, I have see no problems with people marrying outside their culture. If Somali women marry non-somali men in greater numbers--maybe that would decrease the number of children being automically born into the qabiil of their father's. There goes another cheap shot at Somali men.
