oba hiloowlow;908865 wrote: lol i know some somalis who brags about somalis selling slaves yacni somalis were 'nasab' This "nasab" obsession played a huge part back then. Or else, why would the Arabs buy a dark Sudanese man from another DARK Sudanese man or an Ethiopian from a Somali? In addition, the slavery was not limited to black people. There were also slaves from Iran, Syria, Indonesia and other parts of Asia. Furthermore, there was some occassions where a slave was freed becuase he/she proved their "nasab". So, although the bragging is pointless today, there is an element of truth to the nasab argument.

Alpha, it’s a comprehensive research on the attempts to outlaw slavery in Saudi Arabia from 1855 to 1962 (when it was finally abolished). It describes events, occurrences and commentary by Arab intellectuals, Western commentators and British officers of the time. It also has accounts from some slaves, stories of abducted or freed slaves and descriptions of the slave markets of Mecca & Jeddah. There are historical documents (like the ones I posted above) and even some pictures. It seems that the Jesus clan of Djibouti played a major part in the capture, transport and selling of Ethiopian slaves to the Arabs of Hejaz.

^^ Guess who was selling them the slaves?

^^ It's an interesting topic that is being spoilt by Alpha.

Faheema la qaatey oo at least magacada kugu wacaysa They don't do it as often as others do but I've come across the phrase from many people in the past. Even worse, some use it so much that an aunt would forget and refer to her nephew as walaal macan or a mother to her son, etc. Of course, and as Alpha would say, the phrase is uuuf.

^^ No, reer Burco say "walaal macaan" too. I can't stand the phrase unless it's used with an actual sister. p.s. How am I blocking you when I helped you bring out into the open what you shied from doing for the past couple of years?
-
^^ I didn't, YOU did with your "what are you doing this weekend" questions. Lakin waa axmaq and it took him several minutes to get it and come back at you "walaal macaan" (an ugly ugly expression). :D
-
^^ War did you join Paragon and others in the African jungles too? Naga daa! Don't the people have a phone?

Go to sleep LOZ! (welcome back by the way).

Missed my aim and meaning by a mile, A MILE!

^^ Not true. Somalis also enjoy boasting about things they've done and progress made. Sadly, every Somali president seems to be happy to report progress to the International Community (and various donors) than to his own people. Abwaan's "wixi qabsoomay" drivel misses the whole point.

Yes, I agree, what are Alpha's plans this weekend? (yara sug, Faheema). edit: Baah! He's hopeless I tell you, HOPELESS.

FIRST IN, again. Morning all. Norf is the Saudi weekend Thursday and Friday or is it still Friday only?

^^ That was a tiny skirmish that also had some PL interest in it.

U.S. Ambassador: Somaliland, the solution to the Northern Mali Crisis

^^ What would you have them do, Mintid? -
^^ Saudis have a good league and, more often than not, would rather watching a local game than Barca v Madrid or Chelsea v Arsenal. (no shiisha, right?).
-
^^ Yes. But if the Imam decides to throw one comment in Xamar's way I bet you that this section (and other news sites) will be alive with speculation, arguments and counter arguments.
-
^^ You'll have to go everywhere.

Ever since the new president for Somalia has been elected there has been a marked silence in Somali news. Nothing is exaggerated and magnified like it used to. No news item is dissected, pored over or discussed in the usual old detail. Nobody seems to be interested anymore! I am sure there are lots of good things taking place in Somalia today. I am sure there is amazing progress happening. I am sure there are interesting developments to know about. Alas, not much is being reported. Not much is being publicised and hardly any is being shared. It seems to me that Somalia is Puntland and Puntland is Somalia. So, when the Imam is silent, nobody else seems to be talking (not even Somaliland). What gives? Why the sudden silence? And don’t Hassan Sheikh’s supporters have the same abilities or knowhow as the Puntlanders? Do they really need the Imam to be causing waves for them to wake up and list their achievements? Hassan Sheikh needs to cease the moment (and the silence of the Imam) to cement his own authority and achievements in Somali minds. Do you agree?

^^ Only when provoked by mad sunnis like yourself, adeer.

^^ You think THAT will be easy? War save yourself a world of headache and get the stuff already. At least, you as a man, will spend fifteen minutes (max) on each item. A woman (without me needing to mention the mountains of respect I have for your Mrs) will spend an eternity on each item. Like the catholic woman who when the coffin bearers were taking her husband's corpse out of the living room said; "don't crash that thing into my new sofa".

Another day almost over. Juxa, the driver saw me but wanted to scare me. Plus, I had right of way anyway.
