  1. Send me some I got lazy and only made the alfredo, but I submitted my paper and cleaned my apartment so overall I feel SO accomplished. If I can get myself out of this ponytail and do my hair tomorrow and wear something other than yoga pants I will feel like a rockstar lol. Essay writing hell is nearly over, one more paper to go and I can be myself again...

  3. The stigma and lack of understanding in our community towards addicts makes it that much more difficult. I don't have personal experience with this but I have seen it from the other end as a family member, and tragically it only ended with my cousin's murder at the hands of the same criminals he befriended. There are resources out there to support people through addiction, rehabilitation centres, support groups like Alcoholics Anonymous, etc, so I encourage you to seek out these services as a first step. And once you are getting help, your family members will return and everything will slowly begin to fall back into place... no one wants to watch a loved one through their life away and destroy themselves, and there is only so much you can do when they refuse to get help and change their ways.
  4. One more paper to go before I can head home to Toronto, so my writing playlist is all Toronto right now
  5. I'm not, at the moment it's just land we haven't done anything with and some locals watch for us. Looks like an interesting project. InshaAllah my parents will be moving to Hargeisa permanently in 5-7 years when they retire, maybe they will do something with the land then
  6. lool I've seen that, amazing. And no I have no connection to Ubaale, except that plot of land

Yes, it's some land we own in Ubaale I actually caught the goats standing on top of the car at one point, but I couldn't get my camera out fast enough before some kids shooed them off lol.
  8. Yes, why do you ask? lol
  9. Since this is a Hargeisa thread, let me re-post some of my photos from last summer I'm hoping I can squeeze in a short visit again this year, since I will be in Ethiopia for a research trip.
  10. I used the name Somaliland consistently throughout this thread, and I said north in the context of stability in the Somali peninsula, which I have no problem doing because it's accurate geographically. But I am deeply ambivalent about Somaliland, even with my family roots... I see it as a de facto state that is already independent as is, and that the focus on recognition is simply the elite detracting its people from more pressing issues. I also don't like a lot of the ideological components of "Somaliland nationalism," like the insulting language directed towards fellow Somalis in the south as well as the distortion of Somali history, which is why I took issue with your posts and XX's posts in the previous thread. I don't really want to get into a discussion about this though, it's off topic and it's why I left the other thread. But my point is that Hargeisa is my home, and there is no need to dismiss my position or question my background because I don't agree with you.
  11. Give up XX, you're grasping at straws now. I was simply visiting my family. Saalax;948044 wrote: Pictures or no proof Well I'm not going to post photos of myself here (I've contributed photos to the Somaliland photos thread before though), and I don't feel the need to prove anything to people trolling me on the internet. But rest assured, I have photos of myself hanging out in parliament and at presidential palace, and a few photos with the president in his macawiis lol

  13. lol I'm not "Koonforian," I thought I made that clear in the other thread you were trolling. How about accepting a diversity of political perspectives from "northerners"? What makes you think you speak for all Somalilanders? Wadani;948032 wrote: Bro, y u surprised. She's not SNM dee, even though her family is reer Hargaysa. Have I told you my uncles helped found SNM?

''we split blood to liberate this city from the phagaash'' the people are in need of therapy, inaar. There is peace and stability in the north, but it will take a lot of work before people truly understand what it means to have a state and be a citizen. That goes for everywhere in Somalia. But it is interesting to me that Somaliland speaks of government but really there is little to no effective control over people, and that is the ultimate measure of a state's ability to exercise power. You just can't tell a Somali what to do. I am telling you Alpha, trying to build roads in Hargeisa will lead to civil war lol

Xaaji Xunjuf;948012 wrote: Ancestry and the genealogy of the people Somaliland is well noted no one is distancing them selves from any one but that is the identity of the people of SL, and the people of Somaliland take their identity and ancestry very serious. Relationship with other Somalis is strictly based on the language and some cultural similarities but its not based on ancestry or history or nationality . Comical. Anyway, I've had enough of this thread, troll on

It's important for a major city to have urban planning especially a growing one like Hargeisa, and they really do need to build roads. But the logistics of doing so will be difficult, especially when people refuse to move lol
  19. ... which is mythology, and a way of distancing yourself from your indigeneity to the Horn of Africa and relationship to other Somalis.
