  2. Ethiopia factions sign deal with gov't 4 Aug 4, 2010 - 7:50:14 AM A large faction of the ****** National Liberation Front (ONLF) rebel group has agreed to lay down arms after the signing of agreement with Ethiopian government. The faction lead by Selahadin Haji Abdirahman Maow met with Ethiopian delegation in Washington where they agreed to implement a ceasefire deal that was recently signed in Europe. “We have agreed to hold our final meeting inside the country so that we, once and for all, end the pro-longed war and focus on developing the Somali region,” said Abdifatah Abdullahi, who led Ethiopian delegation in Washington. The On his part, Selahadin Haji Abdirahman Maow denounced Admiral Ahmed Omar Osaman as overall leader of ONLF, saying he a man who wants to forcible take the leadership of the group. Meanwhile, Ethiopian government is to sign a peace deal with the United Western Somali Liberation Front (UWSLF), a rebel group active in the ****** region for the last 20 years. The UWSLF agreed to lay down their arms in April and the formal signing of the deal later today will end the group's armed struggle. The Minister of Federal Affairs, Dr. Shiferaw Tekle-Mariam confirmed the signing of the agreement, saying it would help the Somali community. However, the ONLF has repeatedly denied UWSLF agreement with Addis Ababa. “The Ethiopian regimes so-called "peace deal" with the ****** branch of the now defunct Al-Itihaad Al-Islaami (AIAI) organization known as the United Western Somali Liberation Front (UWSLF) has no impact on facts on the ground in ****** and represents an attempt by the regime to promote the idea that a non-existent peace process is underway in ******,” it said in a statement. The ONLF group, which was founded in 1984, is fighting to make the oil-rich Somali region of ****** in eastern Ethiopia an independent state and has warned foreign oil explorers against prospecting on its land. 3. Dr Birhanu Nega is derisively called Dr Birr Ahun ( Money now)- by his adversaries. He is known to collect money from gullible TPLF-hating Ethiopians (including ONLF supporters) promising them he’ll end TPLF's rule in 3 months (that was 3 years ago). Many suspect he is using the money for his own ends. The hustler is too comfortable in the good old USA to sacrifice time, sweat and blood to stop Meles. Furthermore, when he was a member of an opposition coalition called CUD in 2005 he was a rigid chauvinist. He wanted to end article 39. He wanted to bring back Assab port from Eritrea (today he is one of Isaias Afewrki’s clienteles). He wanted to eliminate the ethnic based federal system of government. He was basically more Amhara than the Amharas (He is Gurage). Today he is preaching a different gospel. The guy will say and write anything he thinks will get him to Menilik palace. The problem is he no longer enjoys support from Amharas. His core supporters are Gurage like himself. In a nutshell, he is a spent force. The funny thing is A&T is so desperate he’s clinging to words of a has-been Ethio politician to sooth his battered ego. I feel your pain, A&T.
  4. Ibrahim Hussein (left), chairperson of United Western Somali Liberation Front (UWSLF), and Sheferaw T. Mariam, minister of Federal Affairs, are having a delightful conversation after the signing of the agreement on the termination of the state of insurgency on July 29, 2010, in Ghion Hotel’s Sheba Hall. The agreement calls for UWSLF to stop its insurgency and for the government to release the UWSLF members who are in prison and initiate rehabilitation and assistance for the integration of members into society. It was hailed as a heroic step and a demonstration of mature leadership, according to the minister of Federal Affairs.
  5. The funny people around Admiral Osman are so desperate they try to deflect attention from the peace signing ceremony in Jijiga by releasing a made-in-London press statement claiming military victory against Xabashis. How any times have read this sort of comedy skit from them? The picture that is giving A Osman and his boys terminal ulcer.
  6. It is not just UWSLF that made peace with Meles. A faction of ONLF has also chosen the peaceful path. The only holdout is Admiral Osman. I heard the Eritrean dictator threatened him not to dialogue with Meles. Unfortunately the poor lad can't even breath without Isayas Afewrki's permission.
  7. Unfortunately Admiral Osman didn't get permission from Eritrea's strong man to make peace with xabashis. He is left out of the deal.
  8. Decision of ONLF and UWSLF To Pursue Peaceful Path Will Help Speed Up Development In Somali: Official Addis Ababa, June 26, 2010 (Addis Ababa) - The agreement reached by the ****** National Liberation Front (ONLF) and the United Western Somali Liberation Front (UWSLF) to make legal and peacefully operation by accepting the national constitution would help speed up the on-going development in Somali State, top government official said. In a news conference he gave here on Saturday, Abay Tsehaye, Security and Intelligence Advisor to the Prime Minister, said the decision made by the ONLF and UWSLF to renounce forceful means and pursue legal and peaceful path would help speed up development in the region. Abay said the abandonment of forceful strategy and acceptance of peace aimed at operating under the umbrella of the constitution by the ONLF and UWSLF reflects the strong pressure made on them by peace loving people of the region. The Advisor said the decision of the two political organizations pursuing the path of peace by renouncing subversive activities which hamper the development of the region is significantly important. He attributed the success to the management of the state government to carry out a good administrative works and ability of the national army along with the public to clear the area off anti-peace elements. Abay indicated that an agreement has been reached in Germany in June this year alone on three major issues. According to the Advisor, the ONLF and UWSLF had agreed to accept and operate under the constitution, as well as negotiate with the government directly. The government on its part had agreed to extend all the necessary support to the members of the two political organizations who have the desire to lead a peaceful life by re-uniting with the society. Abay said 21 leaders of the ONLF along with the majority of the members of the front had chosen to pursue the path of peace by recognizing that their subversive activities did no good to the people in the state. According to Abay, the larger faction of the ONLF has agreed to pursue peaceful path. He said the other faction which has a very small number of supporters was unable to pursue peace as it was engaged destructive activities as Eritrea as mastermind. The ONLF had decided to bring this faction through force if it refrains to join the ranks of peace, he added. Abay said the government has been striving to route out security problems from its roots and ensure peace and security in the region. He said the people in the state have contributed significantly for the agreement reached between the government and the two organizations. ---END---
  9. Ethiopia claims rebels depleted after deal ADDIS ABABA (AFP) – Ethiopia claimed on Saturday that the country's most active rebel group, the ****** National Liberation Front (ONLF), was on its last legs after a large faction agreed to lay down arms. "At the moment, they number around 250 fighters, of which half belong to the faction that is negotiating with the government," Abay Tsehaye, Prime Minister Meles Zenawi's security and intelligence advisor, told reporters. "It (ONLF) does not have any hope of running a significant army because the people are against them," he added. Formed in 1984, the ONLF is fighting for independence for the ****** -- an oil-rich southeastern region populated mainly by Somali speakers -- which it says has been marginalised by the regime in Addis Ababa. Government spokesman Bereket Simon told AFP on Thursday that a large breakaway faction of the ONLF had signed a deal on June 12. "The pressure from the people (in the region) is very intense. Every elder and family is pressurising them to come to peace," Abay said. He said the faction that agreed to talks included 20 members of the group's senior leadership that enjoyed "60 percent of the support base". Part of the agreement was to grant members an amnesty and provide the group the opportunity to function as a political party, while a "three-month ceasefire" has also been implemented. "The next (stage) is to give them time and come to finalise the agreement (in the summer)... so that they can hand over arms and be rehabilitated," Abay said. ONLF spokesman Abderahman Mahadi had denounced the announcement as a "farce" on Thursday saying Addis Ababa "wants the international community to believe it is negotiating when it is not true". The group has said in the past that it was ready to talk with the government through the mediation of a third country, a request so far rejected by the authorities in Addis Ababa. Both sides routinely trade accusations or trumpet major military victories. Information on the ****** is very hard to verify because independent media access to the remote region is banned.
  10. Haatu, my Northern Somali friend translated it for me earlier on. Thanks for the effort though.
  11. Until then I will have to figure out Che's Somali scribble by myself. What a challenge. FYI, I have asked Google to Add Somali language to its Google Translate list ASAP.
  12. Well while you are at it, why not translate it to Amaragna and Oromogna as well.
  13. Libaahe*, Egypt is using Eritrea as a conduit to undermine Ethiopia. The plethora of Ethiopian liberation fronts, including ONLF, is housed in Asmara. Qatar offers the money and Egypt the diplomatic muscle. As you know, recently the Eritrean leader publicly sided with Egypt on Nile. Where this will lead to no one is certain, though war cannot be ruled out. For the rest of SOLosers, it is better if you stick to the issue at hand instead of questioning my identity because it is not a winning strategy.
  14. Admiral Osman is a Xabashi born and raised in region 5. He had some schooling in Egypt if I am not mistaken. Egyptian thought they can use him against Xabashis to keep the latter away from Nile river via perpetual internal conflict. I don't think that strategy is working. Xabashis are adamant they will use Nile with or without Egypt's permission.
  15. I guess Admiral Osman will no longer have to see Addis Abeba from London. He will soon be calling AA home sweet home. Lol.
  16. Once UWSLF made peace with xabashis, it was a matter of time before ONLF follows suit. Some ONLF cyber *****cats here (A&T, The Zack...) were bashing UWSLF for its farsighted decision to work within the system to better the lives of Somali people in region 5. They belittled UWSLF and assured themselvesm ONLF will never go the USLF way even though I posted another article that suggested otherwise. Now the same meowing *****cats are trying to spin the latest development in favor of ONLF. No sir, the credit goes to UWSLF for pulling the rug under ONLF’s skinny legs.
  17. I don't see a viable Somalia coming to life anytime soon. My suggestion is Somalia be divided up among its neighbours. SSC should be part of Somaliland. Hiraan, Bakool and Bay be part of Ethiopia. North of Galgaduud be given to Puntland. Gedo, Juba and lower shabelle to Kenya. The Mogadishu clan should be left alone. If you have any other suggestions feel free to entertain it.
  18. There is an axmaaro saying. An impatient hyena will bite on its prey's horn. I think that is what happened to SSC folks. The Xabashi din't go into Buuhoodle to support Somalilanders. They went in there to keep trouble makers away from Somali Region ahead of their national Election. They had no ill will towards Daraawish. But the Daraawish overreacted and created an enemy of xabashi when they lest can afford it. Now Somalilanders will capitalize on SSC's monumental blunder.
