    What a joke, I am surprised Fowziya didn't use 'Republic of Somalia' in her letterhead and completely ignore the federal government part like her boss Hassan.

     

    The whole thing is a mess, why were SFG soldiers/commanders in Kismayo? Shouldn't they be at the front lines fighting Al Shabab?

    Today It's making headlines across the world: a 22 year old woman has been brutally raped by five men during protests in Tahrir Square, Egypt [1]. The Dutch journalist has reportedly undergone surgery for her injuries.

     

    Shockingly, this attack is not a one-off. A local NGO recorded more than 40 cases of sexual assault and harassment against women on Sunday night alone.

     

    Female protestors have faced widespread sexual violence in Tahrir Square for many years -- and Egyptian authorities have continually failed to stop the attacks, or bring perpetrators to justice.

     

    We need to send a clear message that this sort of violence and discrimination is not acceptable anywhere, at any time. Demand Egypt's political leaders clearly condemn sexual violence and bring attackers to account.

     

    This sort of gender discrimination runs deep in Egypt. Women are sidelined from public life, including in government and courts of law. During the Arab Spring protests of 2011 the Egyptian military performed degrading forced "virginity tests" on female protestors [2]. No one has been brought to justice for this humiliating form of torture.

     

    Many of us will also remember the disturbing footage of a young female protestor being stripped and beaten by soldiers. Azza Hilal Ahmad Suleiman came to her aid. She was beaten even after she fell unconscious, and was hospitalised with a fractured skull [3]. No one has been held accountable for her vicious beating.

     

    In fact, not a single person has been brought to justice for sexual violence against women by members of the military and police during military rule.

     

    These injustices must end. Join our call for Egypt's leaders to implement a comprehensive plan to combat sexual violence, and to bring perpetrators to account.

     

    There is a new movement of strong, brave Egyptian women standing up to discrimination - and Azza Suleiman is one of them. She says that today "the fear is broken. In the past, women and girls didn't talk about sexual harassment, but now they do and they are fighting back against it."

     

    It is women like Azza that we stand behind in solidarity - and that is what the Amnesty movement has always been about; lending support for the struggle against discrimination and injustice the world over.

    Amazing, these women jumping up and down with their arms in the air would certainly be something AlShabab would consider stone worthy, tribe makes people blind I guess.

     

    Aside from that, this president should be uniting his tribe base first, what was the point of electing someone from Mogadishu if this sort of thing can still occure within this community.

    I remember seeing some mines and undetonated grenades back in 1992 when I was in Hargeisa. Pretty f#cking bad to be honest, as kids nobody told us to be careful as we just roamed inside many semi destroyed/abandoned homes, while playing marble games on the red sand.

     

    We were lucky. But I can only imagine the risks the kids in Mogadisho were in when we fled.

    You are right Rahima, the polls are looking good. To be honest I will never forget the tear on KRudds face at that press conference with his family behind him, right after she stabbed him in the back. The people have never forgiven her for that and I think because of that, he might actually win.
