  1. I don't think it's such a big shock to academics and students in teh Uk. There is already a huge anti-american and anti-Isreal sentiment and the consequences this has for the world. I think though, apart from stating the obvious from where I am looking, it's good that such two respected academics put it on paper black and white. We need to break away from the mentality that all Israeli criticism is anti-semetic. And this is such a step forward of course.
  2. Stop panicking, it's delaying you. 5000 words is not that much. Good luck.
  3. That's a load of... of course men and women can be friends. But this type of pure brotherly/sisterly friendship is rare. You also have the friends who ocasionally flirt, because it's in their nature but nothing will ever come of it.
  4. Nice, must be good for the locals, but this is happening all over Somalia, the more stable regions that is. People have to live somehow, time isn't going to stop for them.
  5. Unless you're a war Journalist, it's relatively stable career with the odd traveling. Most news nowerdays is financial/current affairs. I think it's a great career. A woman can be interested in politics, laakin Somali politics is altogether different. There is no transparency and everything is painted with the qabiil brush, thus making it difficult to analyze anyone's objectives beyond mad power for themselves and their tribe. Kind of like Somali history, no sooner have you heard what the 'official' version was before someone tells you it wasn't like that at all. Most of all, it's just frustrating.

It's a paying service. If they don't find you a job in 6 months you get your money back. Alternatively you can go to their walk-in-centre in Dubai, I think the address is on the website. Or you can always apply to non-fee recruitment agencies. Good luck.
  7. I would be weary of anyone, no matter how grand a NGO or government that is willing to help you out of the good will of their heart, or to put it otherwise 'to prevent terrorism in the region, to spread democracy etc'. There is always a price to pay.
  8. Easy, my computer can stay logged on
  9. Well I think parents should be non-negotiable. The is no trouble with old people, society has become too selfish & too busy. 3 months yahoo?! I haven't spoken to my grandma for a few weeks, but I can't always get through to her, the lines in Somalia are bad at times.
  10. Hey I am up for independent Somaliland, on the condition that every person of Somali origin would have the automatic right to live there (minus warlords and criminals of course). Then people would not be loosing anything but gaining a new country .
  11. Stoic I think everyone has had some sort of bad qabil moment. We have a neighbour who when we moved into our house here, first thing she asked us was which qolo we were. When she discoverd we were not from her side of the country,( not that we were even a qabil who did her qabil any harm) she blatendly ignored us. My parents said it was our duty to say 'Salam' regardless. She used to cross the road when we got near to her, it was funny. Anyways, it has taken her 5 years but she now smiles and returns the Salam, she even asks you how you are and has come round one or two times. Nur, the one who annoys and enlightens at the same time, what I wanted to ask you was (if it doesn't come under personal) if you studied Islamic studies or you just learned it on your own? How long did it take you to get where you are,in terms of knowledge? Is E-Nuri a one man show?
  12. Cooking is easy and if you enjoy cooking you can taste it in the food. I think the idea that cooking is incredibly hard is overated, you can manage to sit exmas but can't cook? I love cooking and most of all I love cooking for my Abo and Hoyo.
  13. ^^^I'm a bit weary of dreams too, but not to the extend of dissmising them entirely, the mind is powerful. For example, my grandmother's dreams were almost always accurate. She too was very pios (MA). Even my mum whose dreams are almost always accurate. When my grandmother died, my mother dreamt that she was kneeling by a river, dressed in white holding two babies draped in white cloth. At this time my aunt had just given birth to a baby girl. Sevelral weeks later my mum gave birth to still born baby girl and a week later my aunt's one month old daughter died. It is really frakish which is why I can't dismiss it. I wonder if recouring dreams have meaning?
  14. I don't think it is necessary to whine about how abused and lost western women are in their dresscode in order to uphold the nature of hijab and the Muslim woman. A woman who has decided to cover up for the sake of Allah does not need moral boost by looking down on non-hijabified unbelieving women or indeed Muslim women. The hijab is a sacrefice that Muslim women in the West and elsewhere take up on their own account, and it's sole purpose is to please Allah. Therefore it is irrelevant how many books, shows or articles are broadcasted or published about the opression of the hijab if Muslim women continue to wear it proudly.
  15. A man who thinks he can change a woman's mind
  16. For goodnes sake if yo don't like it don't look at it. It's no more horrific to look at that FGM pic than it is to look at those on the internet. If we are questioning his intention then we'll be none the smarter until we actully ask Name Witheld. If all of you are as bummed out about FGM there is pleanty you can do, and that's probably where you will make your excuses.
  17. ^^^ If that is the line of argument you are going to take, that it's traditionally men who are the breadwinners, then this clearly shows men have failed just as greatly. "1,440 women die each day during childbirth (a rate of one death every minute)." Having children should come with a fatal warning, makes you wonder if those brats are even worth it  .
  18. Ibtisam, that's not entirely true. No one is free of predjudice, people only pretend to be objective, even if they wanted to they would always be partially influenced. The point of faith is to accept things 100% even if it's not something that appeals to you because it's part of a test of your Iman. I might think it's totally harsh to stone someone to death if they committ adultery but God's las is God's law. I think everything, including how much we are willing to accept for the sake of Allah, even if it pains us is to me faith. Sharia law is complex but everyoen seems to be an expert at it. Something ridicules like a man divorcing his wife in his sleep, you can't even pray if you have fallen asleep! How on earth can you divorce anyone? Besides, sleep is described as a form of 'death', being unconscious.
  19. Hey if you are visiting exotic places, the originals are cheaper (than my or your town) there anyway. Especially places like China.
  20. I'm sorry Scarlet, but those bags are horrendous.
  21. Another popoganda article to discredit Islam.
  22. Well while people can appreciate her pain, simply speaking motherhood is a privelige, it is not a right. It was quiet a big deal in the national press here but the prodominant view was that she shouldn't be allowed to have the babies. It's disturbing to use embryos as insurance.
  23. Layzie, the universe does not revolve around men. I am actually curious if anyone is finding work in the region, it's supposed to be super exciting. There is also another site (http://www.gulfjobsites.com/jobs/Jobsites/) although it isn't nearly as efficient as jobsindubai.com. International recuritment agencies are also worth looking into.
